Stuck in an entertainment rut?

Having thousands of options at our fingertips sounds great, but I know a lot of folks (myself included) get overwhelmed by the choices and end up watching the same show we’ve seen 100 times already. 😆

If that sounds like you, we’ve got you covered! There are just so many options for what to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Apple TV, but thankfully, the Hip2Save team always has great suggestions!

Hip Tip: Be sure to check out all the ways you can watch your favorite TV shows, movies, and sports for cheap or even free!

Here are some of our team’s recommendations for the best streaming shows:

Best shows on Netflix:

Bridgerton

bridgerton season 2

When it comes to the best streaming shows, this is biasedly my favorite! Arguably the ultimate current historic drama, Bridgerton is pretty much everywhere we turn. According to Screen Crush, Bridgerton Season 2 is actually the most viewed Netflix show within its first 28 days of streaming with 627.1 million hours of streams.

Set in 1800s London, we follow the story of each member of the high society Bridgerton family. It mixes love, drama, diversity, and class issues. We all clearly can’t get enough of watching the Bridgerton family, and I, personally, am counting down the days until season 3 is released!

Stranger Things

stranger things

Does Stranger Things need an introduction? This Netflix series became wildly popular after its release, and several Hip team members are still loving it! It mixes fantasy, a little sci-fi, drama, and adventure all set against a wonderfully 80s backdrop. With part one of season 4 recently being released, all fans are eagerly waiting for part two to be released on July 1st.

Stranger Things is one of those few shows that for me, is consistently great if not topping itself with every season. That continues to be the case for the latest, Season 4, where the show is the most intense, heart-stopping, wild narrative roller coaster I’ve seen yet. If you haven’t hopped aboard the Stranger Things train, there is no better time than the present.” – Shane

Our Great National Parks

our great national parks

This limited series showcases the beauty of our earth, specifically the national parks! Most of us do not have the first-hand opportunity to explore each national park, and they’re all so unique and beautiful. This series takes a deep dive into different elements, including animals and the environment that surrounds our national parks.

“We just watched Our Great National Parks on Netflix, and I’m so sad it was a limited series. The animals and landscape videography are incredible. It was something our entire family found interesting.” – Sara

Best shows on Disney+:

Obi-Wan Kenobi

obi-wan kenobi disney plus

When it comes to the best streaming shows on Disney+, this one is currently topping the cake. Taking place ten years after Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan dives deep into the challenges and adventures of the beloved Star Wars character. As he navigates the betrayal of his Anakin Skywalker, we watch Kenobi figure out his next steps.

Moon Knight

moon knight

Marvel’s main character Marc Spectar battles a series of issues, some within himself. This is Disney+’s first “mature” original series, but fans of Marvel are encaptured and impressed both by the plot and fan-favorite Oscar Isaac’s performance.

“Moon Knight is based on one of my FAV obscure Marvel characters, and, while not for the faint of heart (it does have mature themes like mental illness, violence, etc), is so interesting to see the lead character grapple with his multiple personality disorder, and trying to determine his place in the world!” – Shane

WandaVision

wandavision halloween

With its debut last year, the show follows Marvel Avengers Wanda Maximoff and Vision throughout their life portrayed in various decades of sitcoms. Something about the show is, well…off. As it continues, we find out why that’s the case!

“Finally just getting around to WandaVision on Disney+, and oh my goodness – it’s amazing. I mainly binged it to get caught up in the Marvel timeline before watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but I’m kicking myself for not watching it sooner because it’s shot in such a clever way!” – Emily

Best shows on Prime Video:

Upload

upload amazon prime

With the recent release of season 2, Upload is a unique, sci-fi and comedy Prime original. The director is Greg Daniels, who is also behind The Office and Parks & Rec. The show is as hysterical as it is encapturing as it takes place in the future where a person can literally be “uploaded” once they pass away.

The Boys

the boys tv show

Fitting the sci-fi, comedy, and drama genres all at once, The Boys hilariously depicts the world of superheroes as if it was realistic in modern-day society. The show has just released season three. As of last week, it’s been renewed for season four, with ratings higher than ever!

But while it may be about superheroes, this is not a show to watch with the kiddos given its 18+ viewer recommendation and mature themes.

Outer Range

outer range show

Setting in beautiful Wyoming wilderness, Outer Range follows the story of a rancher who has to fight for both his land and family after the disappearance of his daughter-in-law and a greedy neighbor trying to take his land.

Best shows on AppleTV:

WeCrashed

wecrashed series

Based on a true story, the AppleTV series covers the rise and fall of a couple’s start-up company, WeWork. At first, it skyrockets into a multibillion-dollar company, but what comes up must always come down!

Severance

severance appletv

If you’re looking for a thrilling, mind-boggling series, Severance will capture your heart and mind. Imagine if your day-to-day work and home lives were separated and you couldn’t recall anything from your personal life while you were working. That sets the scene well for this series. Talk about a work-life balance…not. 😬

The Morning Show

the morning show

Acting as one of the debut shows for AppleTV’s launch, The Morning Show is a drama series that showcases the scandals that go down behind the closed doors of morning television. Filled with stars like Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, the fan-favorite has been confirmed to renew for season 3!

Best shows on HBO Max:

Julia

julia on hbo

HBO’s Julia portrays the show of TV chef Julia Child, who paved the way for all celebrity chefs during a crucial time in American history. It’s a refreshing and enjoyable show, and many members of our team love it!

“Oh, I did not know I needed a Julia Child show in my life, but it is ADORABLE. It’s about when she started her cooking show and even self-funded it. It’s kind of Mad-Men-ish. The actress is so cute, and I have really been enjoying it!” – Lina

The Time Traveler’s Wife

the time travelers wife

Inspired by the best-selling Audrey Niffenegger novel, The Time Traveler’s Wife follows a loving couple who face extensive distance and time apart due to time travel. Back in 2009, there was a film adaptation of this, but fans are raving about this series version, which just recently wrapped up season one.

Starstruck

starstruck hbo

This charming rom-com series follows a relatable young woman struggling to make ends meet and accidentally being romantically tied to a famous movie star. There are two seasons, each episode only around 20 minutes making it almost too easy to binge! Better yet, it’s been confirmed to be renewed for season 3!

If you are looking for a show that has lots of laughter you must watch, no binge, Schitt’s Creek on Netflix. It took me four years to check it out but sadly the series ended this week. I’m planning on binge watching the six seasons soon bc it’s that good!

I also recommend the show Barry on HBO and Hulu with Bill Hader. It’s a dark comedy-crime show and very well written.

    • Mary

Love love love funniest series, love dddddaaaaavvvvviiiidddd

  2. angie

Tried to watch Troop Zero because I am looking for family friendly shows on Prime, but they swore 3 times in the first 4 min, so we quit watching. I wouldn’t advertise it as a family friendly show.

  3. Lark81

I love this and would love a similar post on strictly family friendly shows! Thanks!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome! Thanks for the request! I’ll be sure to pass this along to the team!

    Amazon Prime/HBO:
    Vikings

    • Sarah

Love Hart of Dixie! So sad when I finished the series.

  5. Coby

If you are looking for romantic comedy watch “Crash Landing on you” on Netflix..its korean tv series but has english subtitles..it’s good

  6. Danette

A real surprise on Netflix, my hubby loved it and it ended up it was based on a true story “Freedom Writers”!
    Highly recommend it.

  7. norsie

This is not on Amazon, Netflix, Etc. but I thought you might like to know that Andrew Lloyd Webber is releasing a musical every Friday that is available for free for 48 hours on YouTube. This weekend is Jesus Christ Superstar.

  8. Lily

For adults, highly recommend “The Pharmacist” on Netflix! It’s a 4 part documentary about an incredible small town pharmacist who uncovered his son’s killer and later stopped a “pill mill” doctor, saving hundreds if not thousands of people from opioid abuse. Dan Schneider is a true hero, and his story is much needed in times like this.

  9. Justine

I agree with “A Little Princess” on Netflix. This is one of my favorite movies! I enjoyed it as a child but like it even more as an adult. It is a gem of a film that is emotionally heavy, but is also magical and captivating – great for family movie night or even just to watch by yourself.

  10. Carissa Robideaux

I’ve loved this downtime because I’ve gotten to watch a series that I loved back in college (circa 1999) with my teenage daughters now. I have them hooked!!! It’s called, Roswell, and all three seasons are on Hulu. Note: do not get it confused with the Roswell that is on Netflix which is a reboot of the original – it is rubbish.

    • Pb

I love the original Roswell! I wish they’d stop making horrible remakes of everything.

  11. Sarah

I cannot say enough good things about Hunters. I watched one episode and I was hooked. I have questions about Troop Zero. I watched maybe 15 minutes of it and was bored. At what point does it start to pick up?

  12. Cherjon B

I watched Lupin on Netflix. It’s a french crime show dubbed in English. It’s well written, plots & twist keep you on your seat. They have season 1 & 2…one of the best foreign shows I have seen in a long time. Give it a chance….won’t be disappointed!!

  13. Lisa

Just got done watching, yes, count them, ALL 4 series of “The 4400s” on Netflix. It is an old show, I believe, from 2007, and I was amazed at how much I liked it.

  14. Godisgr82all

The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu is so addicting. It’s kept me up late many nights and caused many snooze button mornings.

  15. Renee

“Animal Kingdom”- 4 seasons – PRIME (action packed – new season on TNT started this week)
“Your Honor” – SHOWTIME (Brian Cranston from “Breaking Bad” – Excellent!)
“Ozark” – (of course! 🙂 NETFLIX

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the list! I’ll have to check those out too!

  16. Debbie

I am currently enjoying Grace and Frankie. I also like In The Dark. But my all time favorite is, and will always be Schitt’s Creek. I keep rewatching it, because I can’t get enough, and I’m sad it’s ended.

  17. Allison

Outlander is fantastic. Virgin River, Outbanks, and manifest (but show was cancelled-I’m hoping Netflix will pick it up since it’s been such a here on this platform).

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I’ve loved those too, Allison! Thanks for sharing!

  18. Mom2boys

Loved Orange is the new Black….it’s my absolute favorite of all time! Did anyone find anything good after watching this??? I need some suggestions!

    • Eva

Thanks for the recommendation s. I would, also like some family friendly options. Can you watch Apple tv without an apple device?

  19. April

If you like British Comedy, try The Goes Wrong Show on Prime. It’s TV-PG. Good for ages 12+ IMO.

  20. Pat

My favorite show on Netflix is Lilyhammer, oh my, if you ever watched The Sopranos, you need to watch this show. So funny, I put off watching it because the Norwegians on the program speak their own language, so you have to watch it to read what they are saying, but the show is such a hoot, I don’t mind it! (Not for children).

  21. Lori

1The Gilmore Girls and Parenthood (Netflix). So good! The characters in both shows are endearing. If you in the mood for a good guys win show, watch Burn Notice.

  22. Anna Rose

My favorites on Acorn are Doc Martin (best Bristish show that’s not a murder mystery) and Murdoch Mysteries (Canada’s greatest gift to tv).

Kyoto Love Story on Amazon Prime is visually stunning for showing traditional Japanese homes and kimonos. This is great to watch with even young middle schoolers because it’s a sweet romantic show and very clean, family friendly

Currently watching Murder She Wrote with my teen daughter and pointing out all the “old things from back in my day”. The dialogue is so good, no cursing and I want to dress like Jessica Fischer when I’m a grandma.

    • Mama6

Thank you for the recommendation of Kyoto Love Story. I plan to watch this.

  23. Casey

The Handmade’s Tale on Hulu is really good.

  24. Jackie

I agree with all your picks but I should add these- We just finished season 3 of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY and we are hoping they will have a season 4! The ending left us with so many questions. Great show to watch with teens. Makes you think and talk about all the possibilities and why you think certain things happened. I have bonded with my soon to be college freshman over this show. I also like YOU on Netflix and of course OZARK (both adult shows). Hulu also had ONLY MURDERERS IN THE BUILDING and that’s a good one to also watch with the family (season 2 starting TODAY!).

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing your favorites with us, Jackie! I’ll have to add these to my list! 🥰

  25. jacy

Only Murders in the Building is fantastic!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Thanks for the recommendation, Jacy!

  26. Mama6

Sweet Magnolias on Netflix, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime, The Maid on Netflix (One of the BEST and most realistic series I have ever watched.) Please note that none of these are for children. Although my family did love Troop Zero and we all watched it together 12 and up 🙂
