Soleil delivered her beautiful baby boy this month!

After 10 years of infertility, we couldn’t be more thrilled for Soleil and the beautiful new addition to our Hip family! Everyone welcome, Friday, to the world! 😍 Mama and baby are doing amazing and we’re wishing Soleil a wonderful maternity leave.

I got engaged!

You may have read about my birthday trip in May’s team post, but one thing I never mentioned is that I also got engaged! 🥰 We took our time sharing the news with family and friends over the last month and look forward to planning a wedding for next summer. ❤️

Psst…send me all the planning tips!

Emily hosted a yard sale to help pay for her upcoming wedding.

Speaking of weddings, our Hip sidekick, Emily, who was also recently engaged is in full wedding planning mode! In fact, the cost of weddings in general pushed her and her fiancé to get serious about some side hustle. They hosted their own yard sale this past month and are happy to report they were able to put a dent in some of their costs!

Hip Tip: Read these ways to save on your wedding if you’re also in wedding planning mode like us!

Kara celebrated her birthday with her annual trip to the Chicago Blue’s Fest which is always free.

Summer is a great time to live in Chicago because you can catch some FREE festivals! This past month Kara and her husband enjoyed The Chicago Blues Fest which is her favorite thing to do on her birthday every year. It’s 100% free to attend and you can even bring in your own snacks. You get to see some of the best Blues artists around like Melody Angel, Demetria Taylor, and The Mike Wheeler Band. She said if you’re ever in the area, you should definitely take advantage of the free events going on!

Angela was also in Chicago for the New Kids on the Block Blockcon.

Many of us Hipsters who love New Kids on the Block wait for Angela’s exciting times she shares with them! She said she saved money for her flight to Blockcon 2023 by using Delta SkyMiles. She has the Delta Gold Amex and uses it to pay for everything to rack up some serious points and then just pays it all off when her bill comes. She said she even switched her gas company to one that gives bonus miles on my home gas bill. You also get free luggage with the card which is normally $30 for your first bag. It is so worth the $99-a-year fee as there are a ton of perks that come with it.

Must be nice to have such great connections. 😏

Here’s some deals our team scored this month:

Soleil scooped up an irresistible deal on Cheryl’s Cookies before giving birth.

Is there anything more delicious than picking up a box of delicious, soft sugar cookies before you give birth?! We think not! If you haven’t grabbed this deal yet, you likely missed the live stream Collin and Erica did with QVC because it’s a deal that’s too delicious to pass up! Regularly almost $50, you can scoop up a box of 24 Cheryl’s Cookies for under $25 shipped! 😍

Check out this other Cheryl’s Cookies deal where you can score some for under $10 shipped!

Erika scooped up a pair of Converse shoes during a sale and has been wearing them every day.

Erika snagged these sparkly sneakers for under $18 shipped during the last Converse extra 50% off sale! 🤩 She said she used our kids to women’s size conversion chart and ordered a kids size 6, which fit her women’s size 8 feet perfectly! She’s a total sparkle queen so when she saw they had the larger kids’ sizes still in stock she took the chance and she’s so glad she did!

Emily scored a new electric toothbrush deal that’s cheaper than her usual buy.

Bitvae D2 Electric Toothbrush in delivery box

Bitvae D2 Electric Toothbrush w/ 8 Brush Heads in Black $15.99 (regularly $39.99)
Use promo code 309FO2AF ($4.80 off)
Final cost $11.19!

Emily has been getting into new routines to look and feel her best for her wedding day next year. So when she saw this incredible electric toothbrush deal, she had to scoop it up! It comes with 8 refills for under $12 which she said is so good considering it’s cheaper than getting the same supply of the Colgate regular toothbrushes that she normally buys. Lucky for you, the deal is still available through June 25th so don’t hesitate to grab one too!

She also scooped up some snail serum in addition to her new toothbrush! Emily said she knew she had to give it a try after hearing our Hip sidekick, Cass, rave about the same brand. Plus, it was on sale for just $11 and has thousands of 5-star reviews too!

Here’s a few books our team read this month:

Alli stepped outside of her comfort zone with this book.

becoming free indeed book on granite countertop

Becoming Free Indeed – $17.99+

Alli said she’s not generally someone who loves biography-type books, but this one was worth it! She never watched the show 19 Kids and Counting but she had heard Jinger on a podcast she listens to and knew she needed to read her book. Alli said Jinger does a phenomenal job of combating what she was taught in her youth with what is actually true. Overall, Alli said it’s such a good read and incredibly encouraging!

This book kept Alli on the edge of her seat from beginning until the end.

Code Name Sapphire – $10.87+

Although Alli said she was a little slow to start this book, she really enjoyed this book! The main character is a Jewish resistance worker which was a new perspective for Alli and it worked! It’s a typical WW2 resistance historical fiction story that she said surprisingly left her on the edge of her seat a few times because she genuinely did not know what was going to happen!

Alli recommends this book even though she’s not quite finished reading it yet.

hand holding every summer after book in front of wall

Every Summer After – $10+

It’s not often Alli shares a book before finishing it, however, she said she already knows she’ll be raving about this one. To say that she loved this book would be an understatement and she still has 20 pages to go! It is absolutely the perfect summer romance read and she was constantly in between wanting to devour it all and wanting it to last forever. With 20 more pages to go, she highly recommends this read!

Well, Hip2Savers, on that note, we’re going to get back to bringing you all the best deals.

We’ll bring back more exciting news later this summer! 😱☀️

  4. A.B.

Hi, I’d LOVE some pointers for a successful garage sale! We are overrun, and I’d like to make a little money before we send to charity. Thanks in advance! 💝

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hi A.B.! Here are some things I did that I thought were helpful for our sale:

      – Big, bold, bright signage: I got supplies at Dollar Tree and made a sign with lime green posterboard and bright blue letters that read “Yard Sale” (similar to what is in the picture within this post). Make sure to also put the street name and day(s) of the sale. You do NOT need to put your specific address – people will drive until they see it. I had one woman comment that the sign totally caught her attention and said others in the neighborhood were smaller and harder to read.

      – Get ready as early as possible: The bulk of our traffic and sales were in the morning, so the earlier you can start, the better. I would have everything cleaned, organized, and priced the night before. Pricing is key because we were still getting price stickers on everything as people started showing up, and I was coming up with prices on the fly. And if you can, call in some extra hands to help.

      – Price to sell: We kept our prices relatively low so there would be less stuff to bring inside after the sale wrapped, and I think this strategy was great. We didn’t have anyone bartering with us (but more on that next) so to me that was a sign that our pricing was well received. Also, if you have smaller things you’d like to sell for 50¢ but don’t want to deal with coins, create bundles or do 2/$1 deals.

      – Let buyers know why you’re having the sale: As seen in our picture in the post, we shared that we were using the money from our sale for our wedding. Not only was it a conversation starter for us with our neighbors, but no one was trying to barter with us because they were very supportive of what the money was for (we also have the BEST neighbors ❤️). If your sale is for a charity, absolutely promote this! And if possible, try to give more information in case anyone wants to support in other ways.

      – Use Facebook Marketplace to list the best things, either before or after: Put a few things on Facebook Marketplace first and set your only pickup day(s) as the day(s) of the sale. Once they’re there, they may buy more from your sale (free marketing!). I had full intentions of doing this, but got too busy during the week. We ended up listing some bigger items on Facebook Marketplace afterward, which did sell, but I wish we would have done it ahead of time.

      – Find other ways to market for free: I listed our sale on the Nextdoor app in the “Free” section. Again, just the days and your street name (not the house number) are enough info you need to share. You can list some of the types of items too, such as clothing, home decor, furniture, books, etc. to entice people further. Kids’ clothes, toys, and furniture are the top-selling products at yard sales, so if you have those, you should definitely mention them!

      – Enjoy it! It’s a long day, so we had lawn chairs and card games to keep us entertained during the lulls. It ended up being a really fun day for us! We also opted to do our sale for one day only to make it less of a commitment. We may have been able to sell more, but it would have been marginal, and we were happy to donate the overstock.

      I hope this all helps!
