Additional Notes

Adapted from HealthStartsintheKitchen.com

We used a precooked rotisserie chicken for convenience, but you could always use leftover chicken or cook chicken specifically for the soup. In fact, if you’re wanting to make this as a one pot pressure cooker meal, see the inspired recipe for those directions.

Note: We tripled this recipe to feed all our Hip2Save team members and it turned out fantastic. If you’re needing to feed a crowd, this comforting soup works out great!

The broth turned out AMAZING!

I loved that this recipe was so darn easy to throw together and is a warm and cozy meal for a cool fall evening. My family loves buffalo flavored anything so I’ll be making this again soon for them.

We all felt like this ratio of hot sauce balanced out the amount of heavy cream, but if you’re concerned about it turning out too hot, just add in part of the hot sauce and then the rest to taste according to your family’s desired level of spicy.

  2. Colleen D.

This sounds yummy.i had surgery a few years ago and I am trying to get back on track of a diet high in protein, low in carbs, though this probably has a pretty high fat content, I am gonna try it!

    • Lina D

Ok thanks! Enjoy – it’s yummy

  3. JJ

Yum! Perfect for the colder months!!

    • Lina D

      Yes! You’ll love it!

  4. Jeanna

This looks yummy! Do you think it could be done in an Instant Pot?

    • Lina D

Yes in my notes I linked the original recipe that was actually a pressure cooker meal. It has the instructions – hope that helps!

  5. Whitney

Hey Collin! Are you still doing strictly keto? I remember you saying a few years ago how it cleared up so many issues for you!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, sure am! I’ve been eating a low carb/high fat diet for over 2 years now, and truly have never felt better. Prior to eating this way, I had digestive issues, lots of bloating, and was often constipated. No fun at all. 😩 Since I started on a more Ketogenic diet, I am rarely bloated, always regular and have SO much more energy. It definitely works for me!

      • Ina

Collin, I wish you would do another video of being on keto. Like what you eat throughout the day and such. πŸ™‚

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great idea Ina! Stay tuned as I am hoping to do another Facebook Live video on this topic!

  7. Laura

Can’t wait to try this recipe! I love the blog that this is adapted from Healthstartsinthekitchen. I make the crispy cast iron chicken from that blog all the time which is Keto friendly and a family favorite. I love Lina’s variation of using the rotisserie chicken. Sounds like it will be super flavorful and delicious.

    • Lina D

Yum! I’ll have to check that out! Thanks Laura. Yes I think you’ll like this soup πŸ˜€

  8. Lisa

I have digestive issues as well. I’m on a strict low calorie diet and I exercise everyday. Feeling so much better and no bloating issues anymore. Good luck to all you ladies who are dieting. It can be hard, but the end results are Amazing.

  9. Ruthanne

Thanks for this recipe. I’ve been following Keto since 7/17/17, and I’ve lost 25lbs. I feel so much better, and am not bloated. My skin has cleared up, and have noticed a huge difference in my dental. Keto has had an amazing impact on my life.

    • Lina D

That’s so inspiring. Thanks for sharing Ruthanne!

    • Patty

Haha, I’ve been keto 6 months, only had 5 pounds to lose, gained 3. STILL haven’t lost any. Don’t ask, I’m find it 100% correctly. (Lots of people try to help but when you have only a few pounds to lose, forget it! ) Happy for you…

  10. mom2boys

This looks great! We all love anything buffalo too! All these keto recipes are really helping me stay on track while also being able to provide a great meal for my family as well. It is so hard to cook two meals at night so keep these great double duty (keto/kid) recipes coming!!

    • Lina D

Thanks I agree those are the best!

  11. Mel

Can you tell me the nutritional values in this please? It looks amazing, I can almost taste it.

  14. Nina

To me, I don’t know follow any specific ‘type’ of diet, I just find this to be an interesting recipe basically! N will probably try this on a smaller scale for 2 people. Thx!

  15. Sonia

This looks like a recipe my whole family would love! I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I have been transitioning to a Keto/low carb diet! Keep the delicious recipes coming πŸ˜ƒ

    • Lina D

Yes it’s really good! Enjoy Sonia πŸ˜€

  16. Deb

Do you know the net carb count per serving? Thank you!!

  17. Jane

My cheese melted all to the chicken. It was like big globs of cheesy chicken. What did I do wrong?
    I followed the recipe???
    Any help would be appreciated!

    • Lina D

I wonder if the soup was too hot. I was trying to research online what could cause clumping and that seems to be it. I’d try turning heat off then adding milk and cheese. Sorry! Hope that helps…

      • Jane

        Thanks for the response.
Next time I make it, I’ll try that and not adding the cheese all at once. Or maybe just making the cheese and milk separate and then adding it to the other ingredients!

  18. Shannon

I stumbled upon this tonight and immediately had my husband run out to the store. And I’m so glad I did! This really hit the spot on this cold Minnesota day!

    • Lina D

I’m so happy! Thanks for sharing Shannon!

  19. Stephanie

How much chicken in cups does a rotisserie chicken yield? 2/3? So if I wanted to use chicken breast or something like that instead I would know how much chicken to use. πŸ™‚ thanks for the help!

  20. Jennlk84

That looks delicious!! Adding it to our menu this week.

    • Lina D

      Great! Enjoy πŸ˜‰

  21. Danielle

Thanks for another great recipe! Can’t wait to try this! I am going to start trying to eat keto now that the new year is here, and all these great recipes are perfect! Thanks for all the great info. on this site!

  22. Susan

Do you know the macros to this recipe? Thank you

  23. Danielle

Just wanted to say I was finally able to make this soup and it is delicious!! I love it!! Made it exactly as above and I wouldn’t change a thing-it is awesome! Can’t wait to have left-overs tomorrow πŸ™‚

    • Lina D

      That’s awesome – I’m so glad!

  24. Summer

I made this last night and it was absolutely delicious! Warm, comforting, tangy with a kick of heat and it was perfect. I’ll definitely be making this many times over! Thank you for the great recipe. Anyone on the fence about trying this – don’t be! It comes together very quickly and easily (smells incredible the whole time because, hello, sauteing celery/garlic/onions? Yes, please.) and tastes awesome. It’s even more perfect on a cold, rainy day!

    • Lina D

Yes!!! Thanks for the feedback πŸ˜€πŸ‘

  25. K

Do you think if cooked ahead of time this would sit well in the crockpot on β€œwarm” for a few hours?

  26. Krista

Absolutely looooove this soup, Have made it several times. I add a chopped red bell pepper with the celery and cut the hot sauce in half. Delicious.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Great! Thanks so much for the feedback. YUM!

  27. Lisa

Made this soup tonight, and it was a winner with us! Hubby had two big bowls!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Awesome – thanks for sharing!

  28. Catherine

I am out of heavy cream. What could I use as a substitute? Thank you!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Perhaps some coconut cream, or half and half and a little butter.

  29. Andrea

Do you think this would be ok using a crock pot?
