My Commissary Deals (I Saved 88%!)

Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

So I headed to the Commissary yesterday and was able to score some awesome bargains! I have highlighted most of the deals I was able to score below. I purchased a total of 124 items and spent just $33.31 out of pocket (including a $9.91 Surcharge which is like Military tax). My total was $208+ before coupons, so I ended up having a savings of 88%! I was pretty excited to say the least! 🙂

Some of the items I purchased were actually better than FREE and I was able to apply the overage towards other products in my transaction! The Commissary actually allows this… in their coupon policy it states, “Valid coupons will be entered at the value stated on the coupon. If the value of the coupon exceeds the cost of the product, the customer will be given the full value of the coupon.” Pretty Cool, huh?!

For all you Commissary shoppers, I’m hoping the list below will help you save just as much as I did… possibly more! If you’re not a Commissary shopper, I am still hoping this will motivate you to clip those coupons. If I can save this much, I promise, you can too!

This post makes me miss the commissary. We aren’t military anymore. 🙁 At least I have a Publix close by.

  2. Julianne

Thanks so much for posting commissary matchups! They can be so hard to find! Please post them as often as you can 🙂

    • Evy

Thank you so much as well. It is rare to find postings for any commissary bargains and your doing so is much appreciated. Keep up the good work. You are appreciated more than you might realize!

  3. Latoya

Thank you collin for posting commissary deals. I am a military wife, and I have been coming to your site for a little over a year. I only do my grocery shopping at the commissary and have saved so much money using coupons.

  4. Rachel

I would love it if you posted more on the commissary. It is hard to find blogs about commissary deals.

    • Kelly O'Donnell

I agree. Thanks for the commissary posting. I would love to see them regularly.

      • Briar Rose

That would be great! I try to do them myself but it takes awhile and I always miss something and I didn’t know about a lot of these coupons that are listed!!

        • Anne

I agree, im new to couponing and this was soooo helpful. I’m a marine corp wife and I really appreciate it. We have a 16month old, a 6 week old, and I do online college so its been hard trying to learn all this. Thank you sooo much for this post!!

  5. Krista Probst

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Finding the comissary match ups always takes me SOOO long! Thanks for posting this so I can run to the comissary and score some great deals. I feel like I need to pay you for your service!

  6. Ilene Hughes

Thank you so much, I shop at the commissary regularly and I use coupons but I can never find deals like these. You are very much appreciated, please let us know when you find other commissary deals, my receipt usually states an 11 or 12% savings and that is it so I am so excited about trying to reach this 80% savings. There is hope, thanks again!!!

  7. Julie

Wow! You are so good at this! Amazing. I love seeing the deals you got. I am motivated to go organize my coupons now!

  8. Crystal

I love to go to the commisary, but the only coupons I have ever used there are the ones on the tear pad by the product. Which leads me to ask…Do any coupons ever beep or get questioned much? Thanks so much for posting these deals it makes me want to go to the commisary right now!

    • Rachel

I have never had a problem with the coupons beeping or being questioned.

    • Jessica K

I have trouble all the time with coupons being questioned. What you do it speak directly with DeCA and the store director. Unfortunately one of the employees at my commissary ended up getting fired because she kept refusing my coupons and my walgreens and safeway catalinas. I’m thankful that I was persistent in a nice, but firm way that held them to their own coupon policy. I’m sad that someone got fired, but I try my hardest to follow their coupon policy and they should too!

    • Jennifer B.

My commissary’s policy on printed (Internet) coupons is if it doesn’t scan, they will not manually enter it or push it through. I’ve had several coupons I know I legitimately printed not scan and it makes me sad. Sometimes I have them pull the product (if the baggers can find it) and remove it, especially if I know I can get it for nearly as cheap (and much less expensively WITH the coupon) “downtown” instead.

      • Megan

        Hey Everyone!

I ran out to do some of this today, and had quite the adventure! To make a long story count, if your internet coupon beeps, they should manually enter it. The DECA coupon policy allows coupons, and manually entering them ensures that your coupon is valid. I suggest you print out the coupon policy, I looked it up on my phone and it did wonders. The cashiers were hardly educated on coupons, and it took my three cashiers and almost an hour to educate them in a very nice way. Overages are allowed, they cannot lower the amount of the coupon, and you can redeem bogo but NOT freebies. I am rather new to this, but taking the time to be “that person” in the store used to scare me, but now, I am informed, and try to educate their employees. Good Luck!

        • Robin

That’s actually not 100% true. The Commissary CAN take “Freebie” coupons so long as they are directly mailed or received by the consumer from the manufacturer. Only internet printed “freebie” coupon (excluding BOGOs) are not accepted. 🙂

    • Crystal

Thanx much for all the feedback. I will take that with me when I go shopping!

  9. Jill

Thank you for posting the commissary deals, I’m going tomorrow and this will really help!

  10. Tara

Oh man what savings you get get. I’ve been able to save about 55% and last time only about 28%. I’ll have to look for more deals. thank you for posting. I think its great what you do for all of your followers.

  11. Tiffany

I shop at the commissary weekly and I sure hope you have better cashiers than I do. I always have $30+ in coupons and boy do they get angry and argue with me. BUT… its worth it in the end. Thank you for posting this and I hope you do more match ups in the future!

  12. Debby

    Thank you so much Collin,
I just got back from the Commisary and my Balance was $202.00 and ended up paying $53.00. Tried to get it lower like you but I had to buy some icecream and other treats. (LOL) I had almost all the coupons you mentioned. Thank you so much. Anyone you could post commisary savings regularly like you do CVS and Walgreens. You have helped my family more than you know.

  13. Rachel

please tell me there was a video of this! 🙂

  14. Angie

gotta love the commissary! When you posted about the $1 off Hungry Jack Potatoes coupon, I used it at my commissary and got free potatoes!!

  15. Anna

Collin you are Amazing. Thank You So Much for all that you do. I am getting my list ready to head to the Commissary : )

  16. Briar Rose

HOLY COW!! Played the match game on facebook and so far have printed 10 of the $3off coupons!

    • Briar Rose

Okay so I printed off 13 of them, and I think I am going to stop. I don’t want to keep going to see how many I could get. 13 seems like a good amount, yeah?

      • Tara

what match game are you referring to? trying to find it and I can’t.

        • Briar Rose

the schick quattro where you can win a $2, $3, or $4 coupon. She has it linked.

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

WOW!! Thank you so much for this. I didn’t think the week could get any better…I was wrong!

  18. stephanie

OMG you did so great! I wish our commissary was this good on prices.

  19. Jessica K

Thank you SO much. Ditto to what Julianne said!! My husband just got switched from a medical discharge to medical retirement … praise the Lord! So, we get to shop at the Commissary again.
I did the memory match game and got a $3 coupon. I kept hitting the back button because I was working on printing several coupons and forgot how many times I had gone back. Well, it let me print 6! 🙂

  20. Jenny

I am the one who e-mailed you about going to the comminsary for the first time I am going in like 30 mins when my boyfriend gets off work I am now really excited to look for these deals I have my binder ready we have a 200 dollar budget for our party this weekend I think we will not spend that much but this is the first time I am going shopping with or for my boyfriend so he thinks we will spend 200

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’ll do great!

  21. Heather W

Awesome job Collin! I have been wondering if we could use the coupons for the Downy balls! Thanks so much!

  22. Amanda H.

And I thought I missed the commissary before! Now I want to drive the hour and a half to the closest one!

  23. rebecca

Hmm… what to do with 5 Downy Balls?! Ha! 🙂

  24. Susan C. in NY

Thanks so much for these commissary match ups. It’s so hard to find commissary match up blogs [I miss Hip To Serve a lot!! :-)] and the commissary website has basically no search function so it’s very cumbersome to use.

Thanks for all your hard work on this site. It’s my #! GO TO site for deals.

  25. Susan C. in NY

Typo–it should say my “#1” GO TO site. 🙂

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I thought we were not allowed to publish commissary prices per military? Please advise. Legal said %’s only…

    • Collin

I posted this earlier in the comments, but you may have missed it. Here’s what I said:

I found these prices myself by shopping at the Commissary. I didn’t take these prices from the Commissary Virtual shopping site, so I personally don’t think I’m doing anything wrong for posting the prices and deals I found. You have to have a Military ID to shop at the Commissary, so I don’t really understand why it matters if I post Commissary deals to the general public.

At the end of the day, I am just trying to help Commissary shoppers save money. Most of us live on a limited budget, so saving on groceries is very important. If the Commissary has a problem with me helping other Military members save money, then they’re welcome to email me their concerns. Until then, I will keep posting Commissary deals.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wasn’t trying to upset…just didn’t want you to get in trouble with them. I heard they can pull your shopping privileges and I know you would hate that. I always wondered why MyMilitaryMommy.com didn’t post the prices, and finally asked…and found out why. Hope you understand my comment. Not meant to upset.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’ve run across the DECA rule about not publicizing prices in any form as well. I’ve been very hesitant to share on Slickdeals or on any online forum about prices. Even if you verify the prices yourself at the commissary and it;’s not just from the virtual site you are still not allowed by DECA policy to state prices. I emailed Danna about this and the legal department contacted me and essentially said unless you can verify those who you transfer information to are privleged to this information you can’t broadcast it. And I agree with collin it does seem to be a dumb rule considering those who shop at the commissary have to have an ID card with the privlege..

  27. Angie U

I’m SO excited to see Commy matchups! The commissary closest to us is small, but has most of the basics (and cheap chicken). I’m going to have to print these all off and see what I can score at mine. YAY! Thanks so much for posting!!

  28. cjs

Thank you SO much for these matchups!

  29. Sandy

    OUTSTANDING!

  30. Ty

That is great! All of the stores should give you the full amount of the coupon – they get it back from the mfg anyway!

  31. Christine

Is there a way to call DeCA directly? Our commissary is AWFUL about coupons. They will not accept IP B1G1F q’s at all. Last month I went and they said they no longer accept Manufact. free q’s either. Grrrrrr!!! I am so frustrated with our commissary.

  32. jareds_butterfly

Had a super frustrating time today at the Camp Lejeune commissary. They inspected nearly ALL my coupons and wouldn’t let me use the $1.50/1 Downy coupon (their reasoning was that there was no actual Downy in it…it’s just a dispenser…I pointed out that it says ON THE LABEL Downy Ultra. Whatever.) Just a heads up. Their policy just changed on B1G1 coupons. You can no longer use an additional coupon on the one you’re not getting free. Pretty silly on their part.

  33. Cassidy

Thank you so much for posting this about the commisary.. I live off base and rarley want to take the time to go to the commisary to buy groceries,,especially when I never really know what’s on sale there and when. this was a great help and made it worth the trip. Please continue to post commissary deals if you can!

  34. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I don’t know if anyone is aware of the website http://www.commissaries.com but you can log in with your DEERS info (last name, SS# and birthdate) and you can pull up your commissary and their current sale items. I usually check this site before my weekly shopping trip to find out if there are any good match ups I don’t want to miss. Pull down the “shopping” link and go to “savings aisle”. This may help since different commissaries have different pricing.

  35. April

I’ve not been to a commissary in over a year! What are the chances that the week you post this I’d be within a few miles of one?? I did a little homework and yesterday was able to use 57 coupons, saving almost $80! I was thrilled with some great deals on products that I didn’t have coupons for as well! If you hadn’t posted this, I’d not thought to make the extra effort to go! Thanks!!

  36. mary

go to http://www.weusecoupons.com. we have a wonderuful group there that discuss what they find in the commissary. “moontwins” 🙂

  37. mazen
