I have a question. My coupons.com app specifically says “Cash back grocery offers may not be combined with other manufacturer coupons or rebates for the same product in the same purchase.” Just as an example, I see this note on the Colgate Toothpaste $2 cash back as well as the Maybelline Cosmetics $2 cash back deals. And I have had cash back refused before when I used a manufacturer coupon in store (both digital and paper). So how are you all getting cash back from coupons.com on the deals listed above where there is also a coupon to use in-store? What am I missing?

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Elizabeth! You can only use the cash back offers from Coupons.com on items that you are not using a coupon on. If you purchase 2 items and use a digital coupon on one, you would still be able to redeem the digital coupon on the other item purchased. And speaking from experience, I have successfully done this and gotten the cash back. You cannot use a digital coupon and redeem for the cash back on that same item. It’s one or the other. I hope that helps.

      • Elizabeth

So then how does the Colgate offer work if you need to use the $2/2 digital coupon to make it free after rewards? Even though it is one coupon, it applies to both items so in my experience, Coupons.com would deny any cash back thus making my total $2 oop.
“Buy 2 select Colgate Dental Care Products $3.99 (regularly $3.99-$4.79) = $4 Walgreens Cash Rewards
        Total = $7.98
Use the $2/1 Colgate Toothpaste Product digital manufacturer’s coupon (exp. 8/13)
Or use the $0.50/1 Colgate Toothpaste Product coupon found in the 7/17 SS (exp. 8/6)
        Pay as low as $5.98
Get back $4 W Cash Rewards
Get $2 cash back via the coupons.com app when you buy select Colgate Toothpaste Products (limit 1; exp. 8/13)
Final cost both tubes for FREE!”
Thanks for all you do! I love Hip2Save!!!! Been a fan for years!

couponing at walgreens is so confusing.

    • JD827

Yes it is when you first start out. Start with Hip2Save’s excellent guide https://hip2save.com/save-money-with/walgreens-coupons/
I think it is essential to work through Walgreens coupon policy and the question and answers. You find this at Walgreens.com/help
If you have questions Hip2Save is beloved for the kind and helpful way they respond to questions about the deals they list. I hope all your Walgreens deals are great !

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Hi linda. It certainly can be at times. It gets better with experience, but I swear, it seems like every time I feel like I’ve mastered it, they change something!

  3. Mama6

I appreciate your posts. I used to love Walgreens. I have three in my surrounding area. It has become exceedingly frustrating to even have the coupons or promos go through. I have a large family of eight and I go through the weekly deals at each of my stores just for what we need or are able to share. I often have issues in any one of the stores even though I have covered all the bases of adding coupons, logging in with the correct phone number and abide by the guidelines. It has become rather time consuming. I now choose what exactly I need and I take in an actual paper coupon from the manufacture. This week I will purchase two Persil and if I end up with a bonus I will be happy. At least I know I will buy it at a good sale price with an actual coupon.

    • Hipgrandma

I’ve become totally frustrated with the couponing at Walgreens also. The scenarios never work for me any more. Too much discrepancy between online and in store prices.

    • Judy

Walgreens has become a waste of time. None of the deals work despite knowing all the rules and policies. Frustrating to shop there so I’m spending all my cash and jet

  4. Kiki

I placed an order for in-store pickup and when I went to pick it up, they didn’t have a paper receipt for me. I asked for the receipt and they said they couldn’t do that because it was purchased online. Of course I needed that receipt to get my $6 back on Ibotta. I spoke to a manager and they couldn’t figure out how to print a receipt for me either. They said that their system changed at the end of July so now they don’t do paper receipts unless purchased directly in store. They also NEVER look at my substitutions (don’t know why I fill those out every time) so almost every order comes back with items out of stock, then I lose my threshold coupon… I realize that when some of these deals work out, they really make for exceptional deals, but it has gotten to be so frustrating when time and time again what I think I’m getting ends up falling apart.

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Kiki, I totally understand. It is super frustrating, and they keep changing things.

For the paper receipts, I have two tips.
First, make sure you’re not signed up for digital receipts only. Go to your app, click your initials in the top right corner, click notifications & Settings, click email, and toggle the digital receipts only to off.
Second, Wags did just get new Zebra scanner things for pick-up orders. If you do curbside, they use those handheld machines to process your order and it automatically processes a digital receipt only. However, if you go inside to the counter to pick-up and make sure to ask them to check you out on the register, you can still get a paper receipt. They’re definitely making it more difficult – especially since in-store prices are higher than online.

      • Kiki

I appreciate all the helpful comments! I did check my account and Digital Receipts Only was unchecked, so that shouldn’t have been a problem. Also, when I went to pick up the order, it was already sitting on the counter and the person just handed it to me without a receipt. I didn’t have an option to ask for it to be rung up on the register. I’ve never had this happen so maybe it’s new or maybe she just scanned the barcode quick on her handheld device and handed it over, but then she didn’t know how to get a receipt. (She also didn’t know how to do a return, but either way…) She told me to come back the next day to speak someone else, but when I arrived today, they didn’t know how to get one either. I could try shopping in-store placing my order that way to guarantee I get what I order and I kinda like that idea, it just takes away from the convenience of ordering from home at odd hours of the night! 🙂 Thanks for the help!

    • patricia53

Hi Kiki, regarding receipts at Walgreens, check your account preferences. If you have digital receipts selected, they will not be able to print a paper copy. After this happened to me a few times, I unchecked digital receipts and now get a paper receipt stapled to my pick up order(s).

    • JD827

Sending my sympathies. As long as you don’t have digital receipts selected as the default you can go into the store for pickup and tell them that you want a paper receipt. I did this as of yesterday. If you don’t have to have a receipt for Ibotta do a ship to store to avoid missing items. Since you have a store that doesn’t seem to substitute well try going in the store, see what is on the shelf and place your store pickup order as you go and while collecting the items in your cart. After placing the order go to the photo counter tell them you just placed a store pickup order and here are the items so they don’t have to run around getting them. I know it’s wild but quite a few people do this. I hope your experience gets better.

      • Judy

Don’t waste your time filling out allow substitutions. They don’t care. They always intentionally leave out an item in my order so I don’t get my booster. But I keep wasting my time allowing substitution for everything but they don’t give af lol

  5. Jodi H

love when you post the upcoming ads and deals. fingers crossed Honey is bogo next ad!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

YAY! SO happy to hear that you’re loving these posts! 🥰

  6. D

I’ve got a FREE Kellogg’s Cereal manufacturer coupon from the Kellogg’s “Breakfast for All” program that recently ended. Can I use this coupon against my “purchased” box of cereal, then get my BOGO free box on top of that one (essentially getting two free boxes of cereal)? Or will this transaction make the Wags cashier’s head or register explode?

I actually have several of these coupons that I’d like to use in this manner, as it means my local food bank would be getting 2x as many boxes of cereal for their pantry shelves.

    • JD827

What does the tiny fine print on the manufacturer’s coupon say? If it says something along the lines of cannot be combined with any other offers than no for sure. Otherwise you could just try it. The cashier in my area at least would need the manager’s approval if the system would not take it. If you have a bunch of these I think it will really catch a managers attention. I’m not optimistic but you can try. Good luck!!

    • Alli (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there, D – Walgreens’ coupon policy does state that you do have to purchase one item for the BOGO. Your best bet to stay within that policy is to buy 4 and you’ll get 2 free from Walgreens and 1 free with the coupon — hope this helps!

      • D

Thanks much! To extend on your thoughts – since there is a limit of four identical coupons per household per day, would I theoretically be able to pull off a transaction where I walk out with ten total boxes of cereal – one that is purchased for real dollars, four of which are “purchased” with four of my free manufacturer coupons, and five of which are the “get one free” part of the BOGO promotion? I don’t want to lay waste to Walgreens store inventory, but since they’ll get reimbursed by Kellogg’s for my four coupons, I just want to maximize what the food bank will get. TIA.

        • JD827

If you are asking if Walgreens has a specific item limit you can find that in the Walgreens coupon policy at Walgreens.com/help
Here is the relevant section copied and pasted:
Walgreens reserves the right to limit merchandise sold.
Walgreens reserves the right to refuse, or limit the use of any coupon, including if the customer’s behavior becomes disruptive/confrontational or the items being purchased are deemed not for normal household use.
Manufacturer coupons must include a valid redemption address.
Coupons may be subject to advertised offer limitations and all other limitations and restrictions on the coupon or product.
In practice that means the cashier calls the manager if they think there’s too much in the cart. The manager than says yes, no, you can have x number of items. It just depends.
I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

  7. JD827

Be sure and check your sneak peak digitals. You might have a $7 reward when you spend $25 on health and wellness in addition to a regular sneak preview.

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome, thanks for the heads up, JD827!

      • L

Question – does anyone know if there a list of items which Walgreens considers “health and wellness” products?

          • L

I found a way to find which products apply to the “$7 reward when you spend $25 on health and wellness”. Enter “health and wellness” in the search bar. I know only a few products show up, but look at the actual product page for one of the products. When you click on the link “Spend $25 on select Health&Wellness, Earn $7 W Cash rewards” another window opens and you can “view participating products”.

  8. Ellen

Trying to shop and coupon there is not worth the hassle. 🙄

  9. Ashley

How do you know if the Walgreens Cash offer is valid in-store/online only versus store pick-up?

On the product page for Crest mouth wash for example, it says buy 3 get $5 in Walgreens Cash … but Hip2Save has that offer listed as in-store only despite the product page not stating any exclusions.

I’m just afraid to chance a store pickup if they’re not going to credit me. So frustrating that they aren’t clear on that.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there! We did check this and it is a Store Rewards offer. You can always reach out to customer service or return your items if you have any issues with your purchase. Hope that might be helpful! 🥰

      • Ashley

Right, but how do you know that when shopping?

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Ashley! You might double check in-store signage, the store ad, and any online details depending on how you wish to shop!

    • JD827

Ashley, you can know this from Walgreens promotion terms page. It changes weekly. I find it by doing a Google search for something like “Walgreens September promotion term”. https://www.walgreens.com/topic/promotion/offer-details.jsp
It is a pain to sort through but the answers are there.

      • Ashley

Thank you so much! That was very helpful!

  10. Aunt Jenny

LoveHate Walgreens But found out when I couldn’t find a coupon I needed to log on, even though it looked like I was because my name was on the upper right corner. That solved one issue

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Great tip! Thanks for letting us know what has worked best for you when trying to grab the offers! 🙌🥰

  11. Donica2013

Question- can you link your Walgreens account in Ibotta?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there! There is currently not an option to link your Walgreens account to ibotta. 💕

  12. Sandy

I just heard today that Walgreen’s is no longer going to accept paper coupons. 🤦‍♀️ I always seem to be clueless to upcoming changes

    • JD827

Keep an eye on Walgreens official coupon policy. You can find it at Walgreens.com/help
They may be moving that way but at least for now I still see mention of manufacturer’s paper coupons as still being acceptable. There used to be a separate policy section for “paper” coupons but now I just see references to manufacturers paper coupons or manufacturer’s digital coupons. No surprise but internet printed coupons for free items aren’t accepted. Knowing exactly what the policy actually says is helpful in any discussion at the store level.

      • Julie

Today my Walgreens said no more Walgreens paper coupon booklet that was in store. They have switched to digital instead of the Walgreens paper coupons

  13. Joyce

Seriously – only 7 good deals next week?!

    • JD827

Next week the big thing will be earn $5 RR when you spend $20 on personal care. It is all over the place in the ad. For those who have the high bonus digital coupon spend $50 and earn $10 WC this is a great opportunity for stacking and shipping is no problem. Be sure on Sunday to check the Walgreens promotion terms page to see if that also translates to WC on a store pickup; it may or may not. It is a great time to pick up the Sunday newspaper for the P&G insert. For last minute today stuff the B2G1 on L’Oréal lip and eye has some very big digital coupons plus Ibottas that don’t have an exclusion for using digitals. Sally Hanson nail polish is also B2g1 free with nice Ibottas that is a last chance deal and doesn’t exclude digital coupons on the Ibotta. Check carefully what coupons and Ibottas you have because terms vary. Should be a great upcoming week for stacking deals! Happy shopping!

  14. Judy

I haven’t received the booster coupon for months after I didn’t load it one week. Anyone have same problem?

    • Victoria

I haven’t receive the booster and I clip it every week. They will not give u the booster if u are a regular customer. They only give coupons to those they don’t make money from aka people who never shop at wg

  15. Daniella

Walgreens website has been very ‘buggy’ lately. Ugh. I had a hard time adding Arm and Hammer $1.99 detergent. Eventually added the unscented one and it would not allow any others. The items in the cart all disappeared. A message in red font up said that the items were no longer available and were removed. I verified in a different browser that that was not true.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! That does sound frustrating, Daniella!

  16. Michelle

I have an Ibotta offer for $2 back when you buy 2 Bic to with the $4 coupon and 10% code I end up paying about a dollar for each pack. And the Ibotta offer does not have the stipulation of not combining with other coupons/promotions!

  17. Michelle

My Ibotta also has a Rimmel eye product $2 rebate this week. The eyeliner is on clearance for $2.69 so I snagged that deal as well!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome score, Michelle! Thanks for sharing with us!
