Reader, Kristen, emailed in about a great train set deal available on Amazon:

Hi Collin! My son loves train sets and I have had my eye on a specific one for a while now…. the KidKraft Waterfall Mountain Train Set and Table, but have been waiting for the price to drop. I have had it in my amazon cart for over 3 months and have never seen it drop below $146. Well today I checked and it is now at $119 with free prime shipping! The list price is $174.99 and the same set is currently $159.99 at Toy’s R Us.

Thought you might want to check it out…. it is such a cool set with great reviews. The lowest I had seen the price before was $138 at walmart but it is actually on rollback there for $119 as well this week so those who don’t have amazon prime could get it shipped to walmart free and get 2% back from ShopAtHome.com.

I just love the quality of kidkraft products and you get a lot for the money: a new wooden Train Table with Three Bins and 120 Pieces including cars, trains, signs, trees, people, and town buildings and it is compatible with the wooden Thomas the trains!

If you are interested, I would hurry on over here to order!

(Thanks, Kristen!)

target clearance was way better. a circo train table for 70% off…came to about 27 bucks. just the table, but still, the accessories (melissa and doug ones) are under 25 bucks, and the target clearance again for an official thomas track set, for right under 20 bucks. couple this with a few trains bought at 50%+ off, and you have a really cheap train table. you have to piece it together b/c it doesn’t all come in a kit, but still, a really good price for me! ended up with table, track set (including 3 trains) and a few clearanced trains for 52 bucks, originally 220!

We have this train set and my 2-year-old LOVES it. Plays with it at least 2 hours each day.

kidkraft is an excellent brand..my daughters kidkraft kitchen is 8 years old, played with frequently by a hoard of kids, and going strong.

This seems like a pretty good deal if you don’t have the time to find the best deal on each individual piece and have to buy the table individually then wait for the pieces. I like this and the fact that it is 120 pieces and everything included! Great deal….thanks!

Okay as the mom of a train obsessed little dude I have to chip in my 2 cents. I own 2 train tables and at least 10 characters EACH of the thomas take n play, wooden and trackmaster lines….
This train table will be fine for a little one who enjoys trains to a modest degree and you have a lot of space in your house. That said, I do believe that if this is the case for you,you are better off going with the Circo line as another suggested. It is a lot less expensive.
If you have a kid who likes playing trains a lot, these may frustrate you. I found our Kidkraft table somewhat cheap. The drawer falls apart easily, as do the track pieces (although I know many people superglue the tracks down – I see no fun or creativity in that). Also, if your kid does like Thomas or Chugginton or particular characters, many of the track assemblies with those lines will not fit on Kidkraft tables, which means your stuck buying kidkraft sets…the last time I checked, if you wanted a new train track set you also had the buy the table. That was not always the case and they are probably still available somewhere, but they are not easy for me to find.
A Kidkraft table was our “step up” from a cardboard box that I had been using as a train table for about 6 months previously. My son PREFERRED the box to this with the tracks that kept falling apart. Honestly, I find a cardboard box with a bathroom rug on top much better. It calls for a simpler track, true but somehow that never seems to bother my kids. I actually ordered those cheap Kohl’s pillows from a while back HOPING to get another big box that I would turn into a train table.
Oh, and I just cut a hole in the box as big as a little storage basket I found on clearance at Target and boom – trundle drawer. And I tell you, the quality, durability and amount of fun was more than the Kidkraft table.
Just my 2 cents for anyone in the market for a train table. I will vote cardboard box any time! (And the box actually is less obnoxious to look at than the colorful table too!)

Oh also, if anyone is interested in a smaller table that is great for multi-function, step 2 has a great one for about 99 dollars that has a lid to turn it into an art/eating/whatever table. I have this table and it is wonderful. It does not fit the Trackmaster thomas trains though, FYI, just the take n play and wooden lines. I don’t know about Chuggington.

We got our train table from Meijer for around $35 and it has 2 storage drawers. Its been fine for about 2 years now and we got inexpensive trains from IKEA as well as some Thomas hand me downs. I agree Target is a great option but the clearance is very hit and miss (not much at all in my area, ever) and if you don’t live near one… this is a great option! Thanks for sharing!

That seems a little high for that train table. We got this brand new a few years ago for $70 at Toys R Us.

My suggestion, if you don’t need it right this second: garage sales and cragislist. These are available all the time! I seriously see 3-4 train tables a weekend at garage sales and it seems like there is always one on CL. These are SUPER easy to sanitize too, so you don’t have to worry about it not being new!
