Here’s what you need to do to snag your free glasses…

Here’s what a few Hip2Save readers have had to say about this promotion…

I ordered a pair of the Kam Dhillon 3014 Twilight. I love this company! They have my Acuvue Oasis Contacts $8 cheaper (per box) than Walmart! I don’t know why anyone would pay retail for glasses/contacts.

I got my glasses on Wednesday that I ordered last week and I LOVE them!!!! I got the purple Joseph Marcs, and they are great! I plan to recommend Coastal Contacts to all of my friends and family!!!

* Certain frames are NOT eligible for the promotion. If you see a “Coupons not applicable” message on a pair of frames, then it is excluded from the promotion.

* You will need a copy of your current eyeglasses prescription (it’s different from your contact lens prescription) and your PD measurement. Sometimes your PD will be on your prescription, but if not, watch this instructional video on how to measure it.

* After you have chosen your frames and selected your shipping method, you’ll go to a “Order Review & Payment” page, where you can enter and apply your coupon code. After applying your code, you will see your order total before you choose to check out (remember that you will have to pay shipping/handling charges of $10-$15 and lenses will start at $9.95)

* If you would prefer to order a pair of prescription sunglasses, you can use the coupon code and then you can add a tint to your lenses and simply pay for the cost of the tinting, which is about $45.

* If you’re not happy with your glasses for any reason, Coastal Contacts will allow one exchange for another free pair at an equal or lesser value. They’ll even pay for the return shipping and send you a return label. Just give them a call at 1-866-333-6888 to make arrangements. Remember to keep your box and all the accessories that came with your order.

Not to complain about free, but has anyone noticed that Coastal.com glasses are hard to clean? My pair has this film on it that I can never completely remove. It even creates halos around lights. It’s not my eyes as the halos don’t appear sans glasses or with my other retail pair bearing the same prescription. I hardly even wear them as the prescription is not very strong, but this film is annoying. Anyone else experience this?

YES!!! I never would say anything because I thought I was the only person. Windex or any glass cleaner will not clean mine. Every night I wash them using soap and water and that seems to work the best. I only wear my glasses at night after I take my contacts out so I don’t understand how they are getting that smudgy look.

      • Mollie

I feel better already that it isn’t just me! I will try soap and water, thank you. I was using spray bottle cleaner and not getting good results. I keep my good pair in my purse or car in case I need them during the day and the Coastal pair at home, and I only wear them watching TV which isn’t that often!

I love my coatal.com glasses. I have a -12 and have found some places cannot do a lense that thick and have never had a problem with coastal.

    • andrea

My son has a prescription that is -12 and I normally get his at Walmart; they actually do a really good job with his glasses. May have to try these for him though. He needs a new pair.

  3. Ang

My recent order is stuck in Memphis for a customs delay……

    • Renee K.

Customs delay? Where are they being shipped from/to?

      • Ang

        From Canada to PA

  4. Katie

They can’t make my daughter’s prescription because it’s too strong. Big bummer.

  5. iamanjum

You still have to pay shipping nad insurance right? or am i missing something?

  6. Danette

It says coupon code was not applied. Does that mean it was not part of the promotion?

    • fran

If you c/p the code, make sure there are no spaces before or after the code.

  7. Danette

Great deal! With a bit of work I found another pair and the whole deal was just under $15!

  8. Sofie

Is this deal good for ANY glasses including sunglasses? No limit to price?

  9. Emilytwinmom

If you have issues with Coastal, try zenni optical online. I have ordered tons of glasses from them for my husband, myself and (mostly!) for my twin 4yr olds. They have some really fun frames, and they are really affordable. You will have to wait a few weeks to get them in the mail, but I have only had one pair come with the wrong script and they took them back and sent the correct pair within two days, at no cost to me! I love zenni glasses 🙂 I am wearing an argyle black/blue/white pair now, they are SO much fun and I only paid $60 for them. My script is -6, so I paid for the higher index lenses – my frames were $6.95 LOL! My twins also get the transition lenses, and their metal frames are usually around $40 to $50, depending on the frames they choose.

  10. Sofie

I am missing something or is this deal too good to be true…?

  11. Debbie

Coupon code didnt work for me

  12. Sandy

I ordered an extra pair several weeks ago. They are fine, and with shipping were around $17. Cannot beat that price.

There is a saying I like that goes something like “good stuff ain’t cheap, cheap stuff ain’t good.” Pardon me while I go on my soapbox..

If you are paying $20 for a pair of glasses made in China, you can expect to get $20 worth of quality. With higher end products you’re getting higher end metal alloys that will hold up to adjustments, minor mishaps, and not corrode with sweat/water.

Frames need to be adjusted to fit your head properly and not pinch the head. Low end metals won’t take the adjustments and will snap easily. Ever sit on your glasses accidentally? High quality frames can hold up to a little mishaps. Cheap ones will just break. Most people take their glasses off with one hand. This can splay the temple. With a $20 pair, that temple will most likely break off. Quality frames with optical quality hinges will hold up to this abuse. And lastly, corrosion. Low end metals can easily corrode with water or sweat.

If you think about getting a pair of glasses that you wear every day for 2 years, which is when a prescription usually expires, it is pennies a day even if they are $200+. (Although I have seen people stretch their specs out for MUCH longer). Someone previously stated they have halos around lights and their lenses are very difficult to clean. Judging from the halo complaint alone my guess would be there is not an anti-glare coating applied to your lenses but then you state they are extremely difficult to clean so I would guess a very low end AR coating was used which actually tend to attract dust/ dirt/ fingerprints etc rather than repel them. My guess would be too if the AR coating is not cracking/ crazing/ peeling off yet it will soon.

Another person mentioned something in regards to a “customs delay” I believe it was. You see in the United States the FDA sets certain guidelines known as “tolerance” standards for lenses. A prescription must meet certain tolerance requirements or in other words the US says a prescription can only be off by so much to be considered “within tolerance” to what your particular eye doctor has written for your particular Rx. If it does not meet this criteria then we cannot dispense this product to you, the consumer. Online optical retailers do not get their products in the United States so no such standards apply.

Thank you for your comments. Follow up question based on your industry knowledge…in the past I have purchased glasses from discount brick and mortars and gotten basic lenses, usually two complete pairs for a total of $65. I had no problems with those whatsoever, and I did not spring for any “extras.” Is it likely that it was standard practice to apply AR coating to all lenses, even at discounters? I am guessing they must.

I do disagree with the blanket statement “good stuff ain’t cheap, cheap stuff ain’t good.” Sure, this can be the case, but expensive stuff can also be junk. It’s wise to be leery as a rule. I won’t buy an additional pair from Coastal, but I will continue to use my free pair for the purpose I intended them, which is occasional wear at home. I will just clean them more often (the soap and water worked quite well). They fit perfectly and are quite comfortable and stylish. Besides, at -0.5, I am not legally required to wear them; it’s just when I prefer crisper vision (side note: had Lasik to correct -4.5 vision in 2007, can get free enhancement if/when I hit -1).

Coastal is just one retailer that is changing the potential ways people can buy glasses. It may not be for everyone, but it’s nice to have a myriad of options as well as knowledge such as consumer reviews, so customers can make informed decisions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Debbie’ try using the coupon code “FIRSTPAIRFREE” without the quotation marks. this is for new customers only, the site was offering this coupon code today when i registered so i can save my favorite glasses.

  15. Julie

The code didn’t work for me and I also tried the FIRSTPAIRFREE without luck. Suggestions anyone?

  16. Marcela

    does it include the lenses?

  17. sahi

Is this promotion over? The coupon code “HIPFREE” was not applied for me and i’m a new user.

  18. Kita

Do not clean your glasses with windex or any glass cleaning solution it will damage your lens and coating. Buy the eyeglass sprays or wipes for eyeglasses at walmart its not expensive.
