how much are the apps for this thing?
They range in price… You get a few free ones with the leappad, and I’ve also found a few online codes here and there for a free game (always the leapfrog brand games). If you want to purchase an app, buy the $20 app card on Amazon for $15 first! You’ll save $5 that way 🙂

I’m feeling left out on all these hot LeapPad deals. I have a 3 year old son who has taken over my iPad mini. I’m afraid if we get him this or the Ultra he may not like it as much as the iPad. His main obsession is YouTube and game apps like Skylanders and Angry Birds.
The same with my son…we got him an Amazon Kindle, best investment ever. You both can use it.
I just got the LeapPad Leapster for $30, normally $60 since the LeapPad was out at Walmart. Now I am wondering if the LeapPad is worth the extra $10 since I read it eats batteries…

the leapster is for ages 4-9 i dont even think there hands are big enough to operate it like they can the leappad. My son will be three in feb and I opted for the leappad
Invest in rechargeable batteries and keep one set charging at all time while the other set is in the LeapPad. It works like a charm.

I have three daughters age 8, 4 and 2 and they all prefer the leapster gs over the leap pad. I originally bought one of each but they all fought over the leapster gs so we ended up having to get 2 more leapsters. My 2 year old loves the leapster gs and she is able to use it easily. I was surprised because I thought they would all have prefered the leappad…go figure!

Lynn, I have the same problem. I think the ultra is the way to go .. my kids are 3 and 6 and LOVE utube music… anything that doesn’t offer the internet is probably not the way to go… even though i hate the internet for them! Either way, check out if utube is blocked by LeapPad.. Kurio does not allow any users to go to that site… my fault for not know this last year!

Absolutely! My son is 6, going on 7 and still loves his LeapPad. It’s all contingent on the games that you buy that are appropriate for different age ranges.
I got it for my son 5th bday. He loves to play with my phone and kindle fire, but sometimes I don’t like the downloaded games, there is violence involved and for 5year old its too much. Leappad has more educational games which are fun. So happy, finally got one.

I really don’t know very much about this, but would love to get it for my nephew next time it drops in price somewhere. My question is, will he get much use out of it without having to buy separate games and apps? I don’t want to leave my sister with the hassle of buying expensive games for it in order to enjoy it. No, my Target would not price match since it was sold out online at Target and at Walmart. Sucks since I drove 30 minutes to go get one. I keep missing out on the Amazon deal too! So frustrating!
