It appears if you send it as a gift you don’t have to have the device with you and open. That’s what I’m going to do since my daughter won’t get her LeapPad until her birthday in January.
If I were you I’d open it and load it so it’s ready for play. I did this last year and I’m doing it this year with the ultra. They won’t want to wait the hour plus it takes for set up. Just be careful opening up the box.

I bought one last year and opened/registered everything and put it back in the box. My little guy didn’t even notice and he was able to play with it right away instead if waiting another minutes for me to load everything

We did the same. We had learned our lesson in the past. having things ready to be played with was way more important to our kids then seeing the tape seal on the box. We set it up, and put it back in the box too.

does anyone have a recommendation for an app for a 4 year old? I know I can search for his age group, but I wanted some first hand advice if possible. There are so many to choose from and given how much they cost I would hate to waste money on a flop! he’s used to playing daddys video games so we were hoping to get him something more eucational…
My son is four, and he likes Splurgle…but he isn’t used to regular video games so he might not be a great resource 🙂
I just asked my 4.5 yo son, he said Toy Story 3( his is the cartridge but its the same as the app) polar bear logic game& Jewel Train.

A two year old will be interested in it, but won’t really be able to play anything until closer to three…mine plays with her brothers, but it is just about lights and sound… I also have to watch her because she likes to use the stylus to pry at the metal in the microphone jack….not really a young child safe toy
