    Luv it.

My kids get a lot of joy out of it, but I admit that I hate the part that I now have to boo TWO other houses AND I only have 24 hours to get a gift together. Maybe my neighbors are obnoxious but I really hate trying to outrun them before they get to the door; we had one kid try to chase us down to see who we were. He deserves coal 😒

Ugh, why don’t my comments ever show up under the right comment I’m responding to??! Yes, I have reinstalled the app…

  2. Tobey

We were boo-Ed for the first time. My son thought it was the best thing. Very cute idea.

  3. Erica

So cute! I’m in charge of my lil ones Fall party… def BOO ING them!

  4. Marni

Whenever we have done this in the past, we have removed the part that the recipient now has to do it for someone else. Who gives someone a gift and then tells them they HAVE to give someone else a different gift? What kind of gift is that? I try to teach my kids to give gifts with no strings attached. This BOO thing just never sat right with me. It always felt like a chain letter. Maybe it’s just me! Sorry!!

    • Angie

We boo every year and I kind of feel the same. It does seem like a strange part of it, especially since we try to give to families that don’t have as much. Then, to ask them to also give does sit wrong. So, I agree Marni, but I have never articulated it like you did! 🙂

    • Kim

I was thinking of either cutting that part out or editing before printing. It is very cool thinking of doing this for our new neighbors who lost her job.

    • Laura

Ok I am totally opposite of this thinking.. I have done this every year for the last 8 years at work. And it’s always annoying when someone doesn’t continue it. It’s suppose to be fun and it’s exciting to be booed!!! And I feel like everyone waits for their turn. So how upsetting is it if it never gets to you. Maybe that should be considered too for people who think it shouldn’t ask to be continued. Even if is a dang lollipop or bag of chips from the dollar store, it should be continued. Cheer up people! Be festive! It’s fun to be booed and boo!

      • Buckeye momma

I agree 100%!!! I start this tradition every year! My biggest joy is watching the boos spread across the neighborhood and listening to all the neighbors try to guess who starts the boos every year! Be warned if you start the booing you usually end up giving out four instead of two so nobody knows it’s you. 😉

        • jamie

I start it every year and no one does it back. This year I started with 4 houses instead of 2 and they didn’t do it. Lame block!

          • Kate

I loved the one time I was Booed as a kid. It was so much fun. I keep hoping someone will Boo my kids but it always fizzles. I plan on Booing them myself this year.

    • Sue

      I agree!

  5. Lisa

And thank you HIP2SAVE for having me obtain all year long the deals on toys! At my house we give out prizes for best hair, best makeup, best costume, best shoes, etc. The kids love coming to our house as they know they might win a toy prize!

  6. T

We do this every year! Love it! This year, for the people without kids, we did “You’ve been Booz’ed!” ) we put on the card.. “You’ve been booz’ed! Why should the kids have all the fun?” 🙂 We gave them a bottle of wine, some Oktoberfest beer, and candy! They thought it was awesome!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Ok this booze’ed idea is too cute! Love it.

    • Heather

      Ummm HAVE to do this!!

    • Sam

      We were Boo’zd this week!

    • Teetee

Now that sounds fun! Parents and non parents work hard too ! Neighbors shouldn’t be left out. Love it!

  7. carley

We do this every year. So much fun!

  8. Carrie

So much fun! We have been ‘elffed’ at Christmastime. Same concept, just Christmas stuff including an ornament for the tree.

  9. megulle

Love the idea as well! We’ve never heard of this until we’ve been booed last night. A great way to meet our new neighbors since we just moved in the area. We can’t wait to find out who started it for us.

  10. Tooth fairy

My boss booed me and I booed my niece she loved it!

    • JA

Ok, I have to ask….if you’re the Tooth Fairy, just who is your boss? Santa? 😀

  11. T

We do this every year! And we also leave pumpkin beer or a bottle of wine (or both!) For the parents (or those without kids) that says “You’ve Been BOOZED! Why Should the Kids Have All the Fun?” 🙂

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      So agree! How fun 😀👍

  12. LR

Oh wow. People have already been boo’ed this year?!? We always wait until October. I don’t like celebrating when it’s not the time yet!
We do this every single year and my kids absolutely LOVE it, but it never spreads around the neighborhood. Ever!! We can choose to be upset about it or not. We used to feel a little sad, but now we know what to expect. And we enjoy it every time.

  13. Brittany

How would you know if it’s spreading around your neighborhood? lol, am I missing something? Unless you just happen to notice it on someone’s porch it could be spreading without you noticing, right?

    Fun idea! Thanks for sharing!

    • Christie

The person is supposed to put the note on their door so you know they have already been Boo’d.

  14. Dee.K

We have been doing this for about four years,we do the adult version and keep alcoholic beverages instead of candies😁😁

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

So you mean it is ‘get boozed’! Awesome!

  15. Carrie S

I started this at work last year and was surprised how many people keep passing it on. By the end I think everyone in the office was Boo’d and I work in a BIG office 🙂

  16. Jackie

I have a question and I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts on this.
I read through the comments and I didn’t see anyone post about the predicament if many neighbors have a Ring Doorbell (or a similar doorbell).
I would say more than half of my neighbors have either a Ring doorbell or something similar. I thought of starting the Boo tradition in my neighborhood but then I thought about this predicament. That kind of changes the thoughts on it being a surprise, haha. What are your thoughts on doing this in a neighborhood where there majority have a Ring Doorbell or something similar?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

That’s a great question, Jackie! I have one and know I could go back and watch who did it even if I wasn’t home. I’d sure like to hear what other readers come up with!

    • MommySpendsLess

How far does the Ring doorbell reach? Could you leave it at their street side mailbox or hooked on a fence post near the gate or hanging from a tree limb in the front yard? (basically anywhere that they’ll see it soon, it won’t get backed over or mowed over and won’t be anywhere trespasser-y.)

    • KellZoll

      Yiy’d have to wear a mask😎

      • KellZoll

        Ugh, a typo!

  17. Sarah

This is my favorite tradition in our neighborhood. We moved here 5 years ago in October and it was the best welcome for our kids. Pinterest has lots of copies of the poem, we use one that says to pass it on to one house and you have 2 days. I don’t like that they have to do 2 baskets. It’s no big deal if you do small bags (target actually has them in the dollar spot this year with boo-Ed signs and everything) but our neighborhood does huge baskets with like $20-30 worth of stuff. I started it this year and made 3 myself. Sadly, when it gets to the one end of the development, it tends to stop. Regardless, I love it and I even thought about making one up for winter time and calling it “snowball fight” or something like that.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh that’s a cute winter idea! So fun.

  18. Marcie Gaster Valentino

We do this at work! I teach school and we have about 40 staff members! It’s fun!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh that’s so fun! Thanks for sharing Marcie!
