If you have a baby shower to attend, consider making a festive diaper cake for the mom to be!

Diaper Cakes are a creative way to gift things the baby will need and to present them in a fun way. And when you score a great deal on diapers (think coupons and sales!), then you should be able to make a very affordable diaper cake.

I made my first diaper cake for my sister-in-law’s golf-themed baby shower (my brother is a golf course superintendent and they both love golfing together!). My kids and I had fun putting this together for their soon to be cousin and it was actually pretty easy to do! I saved money by buying the toy golf clubs and diaper bag clip at Dollar Tree, and the socks and burp cloth from T.J. Maxx.

  • To make this diaper golf bag, start by rolling 48 size 1 diapers individually and securing them each with a rubber band.
  • Secure three of those rolled diapers together with another rubber band.
  • Then line up nine rolled diapers around the three you just did and secure with one or two rubber bands. Repeat three more times and you’ll end up with four tiers of diapers for the bag.
  • Carefully insert toy golf clubs between the middle diapers and they will support the four tiers of diapers.
  • Embellish bag with coordinating ribbon, baby socks, and use a diaper bag clip to clip on a burp cloth. I used the cardboard bottom portion of a pant hanger from the dry cleaners cut in half for the stand.

Note: My bag was inspired by this one from MonkeySmiles. Thanks for the inspiration!

Some tutorials say to use hot glue or something to wrap the diapers up. Suggestion would be to use small rubber bands! My mom and sister did this for me so that I can actually use the diapers from the cake instead of having to throw it away.

^^yes. Diapers are expensive. You definitely want the recipient to be able to use them. Also dollar tree makes the shrink wrap bags for baskets. They work great for these diaper cakes because it holds all the little things that you may put in the cake together. I love giving these things!

I get the hair rubber bands from dollar tree there’s usually black or clear 500 count! I always make my diaper cakes so the items can be used.

This is what I do, too. The clear ones are perfect for diaper cakes!

      never use hot glue readers.

I love making the “fondant style” diaper cakes with cute coordinating patterns of receiving blankets covering each cake layer and a cute plush or toy as a topper. It helps disguise the diapers and can look very elegant!

Off topic: I went in to VS today to try to redeem my quikly coupon offers of the rollerball and the lotion and the store told me they do not accept any coupons that are not from the store? I don’t understand I thought they would’ve been up to date already about these offers? The employees seemed to know about them but once I went to the counter they told me no. They didn’t even try to scan it? Did anyone have problems with these too?

    • Ella

I printed mine and just said “I have coupons” and she used them. She wasn’t particularly friendly, but I didn’t care. I thought printing would be easier than trying to pull up 1 after the other on my phone.

I had the same issue and I contacted VS customer care. They informed me that they send out communication late so a lot of store did not received the memo to accept the coupon. They said to give them a call if happens again. Here is their number if you would like it, 855-866-5810 option 9. Good luck!

every time i go into the store with a quikly offer, I make sure to pull up the company’s facebook page on my phone. There’s usually a question on there about the quikly offers and a response from the company about the validity of the offer – that way if the employees haven’t heard about the offer, they can see that the offer is legit.

I made a 3 tier towel cake for my sisters bridal shower. The bottom layer was larger and the other tiers were smaller just like a regular 3 tier wedding cake. I bought towels, and hand towels off the registry and kitchen utensils.. Roll them up nice , stuck the kitchen utensils inside, wrapped it with burlap ribbon and cascaded fake sunflowers going down. The towels were hunter green and she loves sunflowers so this was a big hit . You can display it on a table during the shower. It’s hard to explain writing how to do it, but there’s tutorials online just google towel cake.

I made a princess castle diaper cake for my twin nieces baby shower. The cake came out so much better than I could have ever imagined, some even thought it was a real cake. As a surprise, I put a bottle of champagne in the middle for the parents when they finally took it apart.
