As someone that deals in the fire service, I don’t believe that these are the best option for your home. Smoke rises which is why we hang our smoke alarms towards the ceiling at the same time carbon monoxide more or less sinks which is why we put carbon monoxide alarms down low. Another reason is because you are to change out your alarm once it goes off for a real event, thus, wasting the other use of alarm. Just my two cents!!
I really appreciate this Emily…I come from a family of firefighters and not everyone would know that information. I am glad you posted this!
Very good info! Thank you for posting!
Carbon Monoxide is lighter than air, and and when it is produced it does not fall or rise, it distributes throughout an entire room equally. Carbon monoxide detectors should not be placed lower to the floor, they should be installed based on the manufacturers recommendations. The advantage of a hardwired combination detector is it will broadcast an alarm through all inter-connected detectors. This means if you have a faulty furnace leaking carbon monoxide into a basement, the residents sleeping on the second floor will be warned of the problem.
Thanks for sharing, John. Not sure where Emily got her info about CO (or why she didn’t fact-check before spreading potentially dangerous misinformation), but she is wrong! CO doesn’t sink, it spreads evenly throughout the air so there is no need to put an alarm near the ground. Just follow the instructions in the manual- it’s that simple. And I agree that inter-connected detectors are the way to go…when one goes off, they all go off (which can save everyone in the house in the event of a fire or CO leak).
I’m kinda sleepy and I thought it said “Kiddie” not Kidde, thinking it was a toy smoke alarm lol. I was thinking, “what a weird thing to make into a toy!” Then I realized I read it wrong.
When I click on the link it says the price is $35.99. Is there a code you must type to get it at the $20.43 price?
Katie , I am getting the same issue as you I clicked & the price is $35.99 ????? Not sure whats wrong ……
Bummer! This deal appears to be gone now 🙁
