You may want to investigate the reviews on this site and others before you actively endorse it. I Googled them for reviews and while it is not as bad to shop there, they rip Sellers off over and over again and their customer service is horrible. While I realize you may get a $10 credit for anyone signing up through you, morally I would not want to endorse anything that was not a positive experience. I am really surprised that you are still actively endorsing this and will be sure to check other things out in the future that you are endorsing as well.
The site is legit but yeah they don’t give you much for items you sell on there. Never had a problem buying though. Always good items.
Wow, Anne, I typically wear my clothes out until they’re shreds, so I’d never have a use for thredUp, but was curious about your very convincing review and did my own review as well. Holy buckets, you are right. Could not believe the horrible reviews at least from a seller’s perspective.
Yeah, I don’t like to bash on anyone but was surprised at the reviews and felt bad for anyone that was excited to get started with the site and had such a bad experience. Thank you for checking in to what I said and realizing I was only trying to help people out.
I did never sell any clothes but i did make total of 10 orders since 2013 and never had any problems except once and customer service fixed it very quickly, and credited back and let me keep the item. Here is my link anyone wants to give it a try.

I have to agree. People endorse it because through referrals they get credits, but other than buying at deep discounts, it is not worth it.
Hopefully they will try to improve instead of keeping their site as is. Maybe if more people let them know how they fell, it can get them to make some changes. Thanks for letting me know what you think, I appreciate it.
Hmmm, I’ve bought from them and I’ve been very impressed by the quality. I don’t care to spend the price on used clothes that I can’t try on, but if there is ever an item that I really want, I think thred up is a perfect way to save money on it. I’ve never sold to them though, so I can’t comment on that aspect (like previous poster, I wear my clothes to shreds).
I’ve sold to them before. I was fine with the amount they gave me for my items, because they were things that I was going to give away or donate anyway. I wouldn’t try to sell to them with the attitude that you are going to make a lot of money.
I am glad you have had a good experience selling to them but it seems from recent reviews that lots of others haven’t. I guess, hopefully, they will attempt to increase their customer service experience and maybe give more money to people willing to send in their great items.
Same here. I think as they’ve grown in popularity, the percentage of clothes that they accept and the price that they’re paying has decreased, but I send in clothes I would otherwise give away, so it works out for me!
Yeah, it seems like the quality is good to purchase, it’s more the selling aspect. And I agree, it’s hard to purchase when you can’t try on.
They did say that a sweater I bought from them was in “excellent, like new condition” and it was not. It wasn’t bad, but it was not like new. It had little balls on the arms like it had been well worn. I think they should’ve been more upfront.
That is definitely something they should have disclosed and to be honest, probably shouldn’t have sold in that condition.
I received a fill-up bag free from a post on Hip2Save last year. I filled it up and they only accepted 6 items and gave me $2.85. So, for me it was not worth the time I spent to go through the closet. I just hope the items they did not accept will truly be donated as they claim. I have not bought anything from them, but selling was a bust.
Wow, they must be making a killing by getting great items to sell and only paying someone $2.85! And you are right, it would not be worth the time and effort to get that amount, you could make more at a garage sale.
I guess I should not say they “donate” the unaccepted items but they are responsibly recycled or can be used in someway, not end up in the landfill.
Agreed I sent a bag back with some higher end designer items and did not get a very successful pay out. My first two bags were of greater value than the more recent one. Going by reviews maybe they have changed their business practices. I will probably stick to local resale shops in my area.
I used to buy a lot from them, so I thought I’d try selling through them. I sent them a big bag of nice little girls clothes (mostly gently used Gymboree), plus some gently used maternity clothes, and they just sent me an email that said “sorry, we are unable to sell any of your items” and gave me $0 for them. I was sooo mad! That was a couple of years ago, but I’ve refused to give them my business ever since.
Yikes! I would have been livid! And I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t have used them again either or purchased from them. That’s too bad that a company does business like that because this should be a way to help people plus make them some money. If they did it the honest way, they could probably still get profit instead of just trying to rip people off.
Thanks for the feedback… and I’m sorry to hear about the bad reviews. I have ordered from them more than 15 times now, and have always been pleased with the quality of the clothing I’ve received. Shipping has also been pretty fast, too.

I have never sold to them (only purchased from them) and so I don’t have experience with the selling process and if it’s worth it. Based on the comments, it appears that it may not be worth sending clothes off. Sounds like it’s more of a gamble. You may be better off trying a local consignment shop.
The reason I chose to post today is because I got an email in my box regarding their 99¢ sale and I also noticed a 40% off new member code, so I thought it would be a fun deal to post about since it makes for BIG savings on clothing!
Yeah, I think my post was a little harsh and I apologize for that. I just get frustrated with sites that try to take advantage of people because a lot of us can barely get by and then this happens. You have a great website and I only go to you for all of my coupon deals. Please accept my apology for being so rude because you didn’t deserve it. I did say that I will try them out for purchasing but I probably won’t because of the people that have sent items to them only to be not treated fairly. I would never sell to them. However, buying is ok. I have to return about 25% of the stuff for stains or other damage that were not disclosed. Overall they’re not terrible, but not great. Ebay is way better for buying imo and similar pricing.
I have to agree with you. I have purchased clothing on E-bay several times and it’s usually for name brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, GAP, etc. and you can find some great deals. However, I only recently found out that you can ask a Seller if they will take less for an item and they normally will. I have never asked so I have probably overpaid a lot, LOL! Oh Well, you live and you learn.
I’ve never sold to them, but I love all of the clothes I’ve gotten through them. I only buy from their clearance for the deep bargains and have always been impressed!

I am an eBay seller and have been for over 10 years. I love it for the most part. There have been times that a buyer has offered me a reasonable amount for something, that I have accepted it.

Where do you guys sell clothes?
If you are interested in selling clothes, Tradesy is a very good site to use, especially if you have name brand items, but I have sold brands from Kohls, JCPENNEY, and Target on there for years and I’ve always been happy with them.
I have had really good luck selling on poshmark! I sell 2 or 3 items a week, and I am finally getting my closet cleaned out!! If anyone wants to try poshmark, sign up and enter NZJES for a free $5 to spend!

They’re overpriced honestly. Especially if you’re looking at more expensive brands(Madewell is way overpriced, you can often find the same stuff on ebay or half the price) and I’ve seen lots of things that are the same price as they would be new. They used to have good deals, but in the past year or so prices have gone up a lot. You’re better off thrifting locally or using ebay/poshmark/etc
I recently purchased 7 new items with tags still attached for $28. All of them were really expensive dresses and jackets. In regard to selling you get a few $ but you also clean your closet and I do not have time for selling on Ebay or garage sale. Please use my link

I’ve sold a few times to them a few times. Definitely not worth it for what they give you AT ALL. The last time I went to sell to them they changed their policy and wanted to charge me 9.99 shipping. I have sent in 4 bags before with TONS of items in them- packed full bags and never got more than $4 a bag. All my stuff was near new, no stains etc, and all brands they accept. This is totally outrageous now.

I love thredUp! I’ve been buying and selling on their site for like 3 or 4 years now. I’ve placed probably 20 orders over the years and have had one issue with a hole in a pair of jeans (in their defense, you couldn’t tell until you put them on). Customer service quickly refunded my money and gave me a discount code. I think it’s super easy to shop on the site – I know my sizes for a ton of brands so I just shop those brands. Probably 85% of my “new” clothes come from thredup. Pretty sure my sister shops monthly lol
As for selling, I’ve had good results. Back when they first started, a bag of clothes would get me $60-80. Over the years, it’s gone down (more clothes, more people selling ending stuff, they can be picky, etc, etc). The CEO just sent an email a couple weeks ago about the selling prices. The last bag I sent in, got me $55 and then I use the credit to buy designer jeans that I couldn’t afford new. Yea you can make more money selling other places (I sell clothes on Mercari and Poshmark) but for me, I like having the thredup credit to then shop wih. I’m just trying to swap my clothes with them, not make money. Most of it is stuff that I would just donate anyways. You can always request to have your nonaccepted stuff sent back to you also then you can donate/sell it.
That being said, I give them a 10/10 for buying and a 7/10 for selling (soley because of the amount of $ they give).
I’ve purchased through them twice. They don’t seem to have very good quality control. All items I’ve purchased said you’d mistake it for brand new and they end up coming with sticky zippers, threads coming unstitched or fraying edges. I’ve found that for me, I just stick to jeans. Found several ones that I love.
I’ve gotten free clothes from them a couple of times in the past with these credits! Very pleased. (Diff email addys and diff home addys). Def recommend.
Wow so much discussion on ThredUp. Here is my opinion too. I do think that it is a good company. For selling, they have a price estimator which will tell you if they are buying that brand and how much you can expect if your item is accepted in good condition. I’ve sold to them several times now and have not been surprised about the amount of credit I have gotten. Also, I have purchased a couple of items and have been very happy with them. Agreed. I used the estimator and determined it wasn’t worth to sell. But buying- 9/10 perfect purchases. One time the clothes were not to the standard of the previous orders. Returned with no issues.
I’ve bought from them a few times and been shocked by the poor quality of stuff. Things marked excellent condition were frayed, and honestly, the prices are not cheap if you shop the sales anyway. No thanks for me.

I only bought from thredup once. My opinion on thrift shopping is I wanna try before I buy. U never know how an item will fit. Some larges are too big and some mediums are too small so I just never know. But I know swap.com is a headache to return stuff with… Lol off subject.
I’ve only had one bad experience with a purchase on Thredup and when I contacted their customer service they were quick to make it right. So I only have good things to say about purchasing gently used clothes from them. However, I have never sold to them so I don’t have any experience with that. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about that process. So, if you have clothes to sell, maybe go somewhere else or donate instead. That’s my two cents on Thredup. I have sold and bought as well. As an avid resale/consignment shopper, I will definitely not shop through them again. I got a few pieces that were far from gently used (sweaters ) and a sweater that barely covered my belly button but was found under sweater dresses, lol. Never again, lol!
DO NOT BUY OR SELL TO THIS COMPANY. They give you little of nothing for your
items , say if you opt out of the return feature unaccepted items will be
donated when in fact they THREDUP is compensated for the items . You donate to
THREDUP and they get compensated. Sent in brands that were listed on there site
they in turn said they didn’t accept that brand, Be prepared to have the brands
change maybe before your items get there and if you don’t take the return option
your sh** out of luck. People have seen their items listed on other sites.
Bottom line READ the reviews and if you buy from them just REMEMBER someone was
taken advantage of.
I have sold on there, but pretty much I was using the free bag (I think it costs money now) and was expecting 0 in return, and so any money was a pleasant surprise. They say they donate what doesn’t sell, so I figured it was the equivalent of me donating, but with a chance of getting money back. I went the other day to look for a bag to send more things and now it seems like they charge. I definitely wouldn’t pay to send them clothing based on the small payout.
I do like shopping on there, and purchased some nice jeans on there once.
