Awesome. I’ve only seen the 99ยข Only store have those, so that’s good for people who don’t have this store in their state.

  2. Juliana Wilkinson

most have an expiration date of May & June 2018!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! Good to know!

I got this from my local DT and was so excited until I opened it at home. Nasty, old, discolored, half of it dissolved. Right in the trash. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

      so are they melting cholates

      • Deb

No, these are baking chocolates, what you use when making brownies and such things. Melting chocolates are for candies.

Then you need to contact Bakers – they should know what’s being sold – they’ll probably send you a replacement coupon. The mfrs don’t know what’s going on in the stores’ w/their products unless we, as consumers, notify them with what we encounter.

You should have returned it to Dollar Tree. The bars have been exposed to heat at some point.

That’s not DT’s fault though. I bought some Baker’s at Target last year. First box was fine and the 2nd box (that I opened a few days later) was greyish in color, even though the exp date wasn’t until late 2017. Chocolate doesn’t do well with humidity, and transportation/storage from hot to cold or vice versa. It will make chocolate ‘bloom’. I woulda brought it back to DT for an exchange. Or call Baker’s.

That’s a good deal! Also keep a look out for Welch’s Grape Juice. Our local Dollar Tree in Ohio has had Welch’s Grape Juice and White Grape Juice 16oz for $1. Which is a great deal!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Cool find! Thanks for the heads up!

  5. Pam

Thanks for the juice tip, Lolie! Am going to look for that and the baking bars tomorrow. Hope my store carries them!

The bars at the grocery store are 8 ounce bars, not 4 ounce. They are usually priced at 2/$4.00, so this really isn’t much of a bargain since you have to buy 2 ($2.00) to equal the grocery store size. Same price actually.

    • Mary Wilson

I just looked at mine that I had purchased at Walmart AND Meijer – mine ARE the 4 ounce. I haven’t seen an 8 ounce offered. BTW, Krafts’ website only shows a FOUR ounce package, no 8 ounce offerings.

      • Diane

Right, Mary! They stopped making the bars 8 oz size a couple of years ago. Found this out the hard way, while making Christmas candy.

        • Mel R.

Yup! Another case of the incredible shrinking package! My granny’s fudge recipe calls for 16 oz of chocolate and preference is 2 boxes of Baker’s. When I went to melt the chocolate, I noticed it was not a lot. Weighed it on the sale, and only 8 oz. WTH!! Then noticed the box was 4 oz and I had to run out for 2 more boxes!

My stores in NJ have Muir Glen organic tomato sauce and a lady in front of me had a few printables. I am going to check coupons.com!

  8. LoriB

    Just picked up! Thx

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome!

  9. Dianna

At my local 99ยข or less store had the 4 oz baking chocolate with a 2019 expiration date. I’m in Sacramento, CA

  10. natch1234

I hope my dollar tree has them. Those are my favorite brownies.

  11. Suzanne

The 8 oz baker’s aren’t available anymore. I remember they were discontinued in 2009. Fred Meyer has the 4 oz for 3.99 right now so this DT deal is awesome!

  12. Susan H

Got to check out dollar tree!

  13. DL

Bloom on chocolate, the whitish, grayish film is harmless. You can still cook with it.
