Help. I have Verizon. Would I be able to use this on my Wifi at home without any extra cost? Thanks.
Yes
As Nicole said, yes. My 8 yr old has one he uses only for games through our Wi-Fi at home.
Can these WiFi devices from Walmart download apps from the App Store or Play Store like smart phones can?
I don’t have Verizon. Can my kids put games on it and be able to use our home wifi, at McDonald’s wifi, etc?
Yes
FYI – you can get a 7″ tablet at Walmart for $10 more if you’re just looking for a wifi device!
What’s the name please. Thanks!
Does anyone know how the prepaid plan works? I understand it can work with WiFi but if you wanted it to work like a regular cell?
You can go to Verizon’s website and look at their choices for the prepaid plans and see which one you want. The phone should come with a sim card already but if not you should be able to get one from a Verizon store. You need the sim card to activate service. Follow the activation directions that will come with the sim card and you will also need to pay for the plan that you chose. Since it’s not a contract, you can change your plan or cancel anytime you want. Hope this helps.
I’ve had a pay-as-you-go Verizon plan for my son for years. It’s been $40/mo with a couple of dollars for tax. He gets unlimited talk and text and a couple of gb of high speed data, after that it’s slower data speed. I had it on auto-pay so I didn’t have to remember to pick up refill cards, but just saw at Walmart that if you get the refill cards there you get an extra gb of high speed data. Of course, if you use Wi-Fi you’re not constrained by data speed. My other son has a tracfone smartfone which rolls over unused minutes and data. He uses WiFi a lot and we hardly ever have to buy more minutes for it.
Can this be used with other prepaid carriers?
Yes, Verizon phones are unlocked. So you can use it with Tracfone and various other carriers. My son had a Verizon S6 with Tracfone service. You just need to buy the sim card from the carrier you want to use.
Thank you!
Would you be able to text from it with home wi-fi or would it have to be activated ?
It only needs to be activated if you wanted to add talk, text or data. It will work fine with any available wifi.
Can I add my own sim card?
The Verizon phones used with regular monthly service are not locked to Verizon, but the prepaid phones are. Read the back of the box before you buy one of these.
It says:
One year on prepaid service
Or
once set min amount is spent on prepaid service for the prepaid phone (for the J3 it’s $50)
so total cost would be $30 for the phone + $50 service = $80 to take this device anywhere you would like.
There are some sellers on eBay that sell the unlock codes for these phones.
