The brown is the only color on sale but we used Rust-o-leum for plastic and painted (2 coats) ours to match with our furniture back in 2013 and they have held up for years!
I have two of these and they work good. I grew tomatoes and lettuce in them. I will say the wheels are fragile and both of mine have broken wheels so be very careful going over any bumps or breaks in concrete when wheeling around.
I purchased two of these last year and love them. Only suggestion I have is that if you choose to use one for a tomato plant be sure to place it in the middle of the planter or you’ll regret it. After every windy day and storm last year we were restaking and propping it up again.
These are awesome! I bought deck size veggie plants from qvc last year and planted in this! Bountiful tomatoes, zucchini eggplant!
SO glad to hear that Mary! I am planning on grabbing these to grow some deck veggies this year! Thanks a ton for sharing your experience!
😊
I just bought a 2nd one because they are so great! It’s the only plants I don’t kill =) We’ve grown amazing peppers, herbs, and tomatoes and the new one will be strictly for the tomatoes because they grow insane in this!
How cool! I LOVE fresh tomatoes! Thanks for the feedback!
What is the best way to stake tomato plants with these planters?
I use the metal stakes from Walmart. They are thin so not heavy and have loops to intertwine the plant through as it gets taller
We use bamboo sticks. You may already know this: when tying the tomatoes make sure you don’t use a really thin string. You can even cut a stripe from an old shirt, etc. And make sure you make the number eight loop (not sure how else to describe it), don’t tie it directly to the stick.
We built one that stands outside the box from 1x2s and used twine for extra support. I couldn’t get anything to stay standing inside.
Is this the best price? I have already planted my plants but I want to buy it for next year. Should I wait?
This is usually the lowest price I have seen each season.
Thanks!
Awesome! I purchased two of the dark brown ones from Lowe’s last time this deal was posted but wished the terra cotta color was included…returning the others and ordering these. Thank you!
You’re welcome Elle!
I just found one of these new free at the dump lol maybe ill get another if they work well
Is this online only? I have an in store only coupon.
Hi Tiffany! We did not spot these in store for this same low price, but it may vary by region.
Yes they sale them in store also at least at Lowes not sure about Home Depot.
Just came back from Home Depot and they are the same price. Make sure you check online if your store has inventory.
Thank you. I’ll check today.
We have 4 of these on our deck for a small garden. The wheels break off very easily. We don’t have to move them after we plant, so it’s not a big deal.
I think I’ll give it a try- thanks!
Don’t forget your military discounts if you have a military ID.
Stopped by our local lowes to get this deal but none of the kits came with the mulch cover! Even the lowes employee thought it odd.:/
I have two, one from last year and one I bought the year before. I’m planning to buy a third. I’ve never used the mulch cover but it is packaged under that air flow screen along with the instructions and the wheels.
I’ve found it works well and I planted perennials (herbs) in one and they are all coming back despite harsh winters in New England.
We bought ours last week, three of them. The mulch cover and wheels are under the black bottom plate (you’ll find them once you cut the zip ties at home, after purchasing).
We got 3 of these last year. We did not use the mulch covers and it was fine if that helps.
Thanks @colleen weeds weren’t an issue? For how inexpensive these are maybe I’ll just go for it.
The dirt is pretty soft so they are very easy to get out. Some loose weed fabric could cut down on the amount but I didn’t find it necessary.
I want those Pink flowers that are in the pink pot. They would be so pretty on the back deck. Think I will have to make a trip to the store soon to grab a couple 😉
I just recently picked up 12 of these boxes/plus trellises (grow box sells) free off Craigslist. The lady said she was moving, but had them for years (they still look brand new) she said her tomatoes fed the whole neighborhood all season long..she totally recommended them highly!! So excited..😊👍
So awesome!
Cool ! Thank you
1 just orderd 4 , some soil then use coupon $20 off $100 .
So its cost about $15-$16/ each
Where did you find the $20 off coupon please ?
I’m so excited! I have been thinking about starting a garden this year, but have never done one and it’s pretty intimidating since I do not have a green thumb. This will be the perfect way to get my feet wet! Anyone have suggestions for the easiest things to get started with? I’m in South Carolina, so hot, humid weather coming for the next 5+ months.
I have a black thumb haha but have been successful with tomatoes, peppers, and any type of herb in these boxes! If I can grow stuff anyone should be able too =) Suggest following the directions inside to the “T” because they have a lot of good info – like do not use potting soil, use potting mix; and do not use liquid or powder fertilizer, use dolomite fertilizer. We bought organic putting mix and organic fertilizer. Make sure you check the water levels. I never used the mulch cover and really didn’t have a lot of weeds. The instructions are VERY specific but I’ll tell you, if you follow them, you will grow things, I promise!
Here is a link to the instructions – https://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/a6/a6baf22e-f3cb-4830-a4be-79a1f518c4cb.pdf
When I click on the lowes link it comes up at 29.98?
How odd, I still find the Lowe’s link to be $19.98. I’m wondering if the price might vary by region. Maybe try selecting a different store OR switch browsers to see if that might help.
Fyi the mulch covee is black plastic with a large rubber band to hold it on..
