I was contemplating buying the carry on size. it measures half an inch longer than airlines say is allowed. Are airlines so strict not to allow half an inch difference?
Airlines will be fine .. you should see what people trynl to get thru as a carry-on

Yes! The airlines ARE that strict. Many times the measurements of luggage do NOT include spinner wheels, and they need to be added on in your measurements if you are going that route.
As most flights are sold to capacity, if you exceed the allowed limit, you will be required to check in your luggage and need to pay for it. If you already have checked in luggage, the price increases are huge. It will be a very costly gamble, and it is far better to limit your check in to 20 inches maximum length, as different airlines have different limits… and many are making them smaller!
Completely depends on the airline and the airport. Flying out of 4 different cities this past couple of months it has def been YMMV. Out of Chicago OHare? My carryon wasn’t carry on – If it didn’t slide down in the metal luggage measurement thing, no go. Had to check it. Also wasn’t allowed in TSA line until I’d stuffed my purse (which I had to get out to pay for the checked baggage, of course) into my other carry-on. So be ready for a hassle if your carry ons are pushing it….
