These are awesome! I bought deck size veggie plants from qvc last year and planted in this! Bountiful tomatoes, zucchini eggplant!
We have 4 of these on our deck for a small garden. The wheels break off very easily. We don’t have to move them after we plant, so it’s not a big deal.
I purchased two of these last year and love them. Only suggestion I have is that if you choose to use one for a tomato plant be sure to place it in the middle of the planter or you’ll regret it. After every windy day and storm last year we were restaking and propping it up again.

How do you use it for second-year? Do you have to dump the entire thing and start over fresh?
Lisa,
Dump out the soil and start all over. By next year, the soil may have lost all of its nutrients.
Late to this but the growing media which should not contain soil ( Look for Lamberts potting mix about $25 fora 3.4 cf compressed bag that will fill 4 city pickers) will last 5 growing seasons. At the end of season dig out most of the root system and remove fertilizer strip. Add and mix more pulverized dolomite lime- 1 lb to growing media. When you are ready to replant add enough media to fill box back up and add fertilizer strip and seedling or seeds whichever way you are starting with and put on cover. City Pickers stole the idea from Earthbox without great instructions. Your can go to earthbox site and find all the information for successful gardening every year as well as the brands to use in theses typ of garden system. Also city pickers new covers stay on but defeat the purpose of the system so I cover mine first with plastic sheeting then put their cover over to hole down plastic all season and cut through both layers.
Not necessary, your going to fill it with what the instructions indicate & It’s going to retain its nutrients you can fertilize a bit the next year if you want but I’ve been using the same soil for 2 years, the first year we dumped the soil & the next summer we had 2 huge cherry tomato plants growing in the way back yard which means it’s retained its nutrients, so now I re-use the soil, I do turn it over though, Just water them every few weeeks with a little miracle grow if you choose. But that organic fertilizer is really amazing!
I am loving mine! My greens are starting to grow. Looking forward to eating some organic Kale, green onions, and beans.
That sounds delish! I should grab one and get started too! Thanks for the feedback DJ! Enjoy your veggies!
I love these! I have 4 of them and do all of my gardening from my deck right outside my kitchen door now. No more trekking all the way into my mosquito filled backyard to garden anymore! I grow tomatoes, green beans, spinach, lettuce, assorted peppers everything! This is the price I bought mine at too!
That is SO cool Helen! Thanks a ton for sharing your experience with us!
I bought 2 last year and bought 4 more this year lol! They work well even for tomatoes though I think I need something deeper for the roots. This year’s strawberries in the pot has been the best so far. I added new soil, compost, dolimite, and fertilizer to last year’s boxes and they are still going strong. I may just get another one for Father’s Day gift.
Oh yes! Great idea for a Father’s Day gift Christine!
I bought one of these in April and I am loving it! I planted beans and squash and they have grown very fast and are huge. All I’ve had to do is pour in water every day, it has been very easy. I Live in an apartment with just a small balcony and the wheels are great to move it around to get more sun. I started a couple plants in pots at the same time and they aren’t doing nearly as well as the plants in my city picker box.
I bought 5 last time posted. These are great. My Vegas are thriving in them. At the end of the season I dump the soul into bare spots in my yard and sprinkle some grass seed and have beautiful grass next year
