How does it work?

Home Chef carefully packages all of the fresh ingredients into insulated liners and cold packs so they’ll remain cold and fresh until you unpack it at home. Once your box arrives, just transfer the contents of the box to the refrigerator and your ingredients will remain fresh for the week!

When ordering, you’ll have the chance to note your Dietary and Delivery Preferences (including gluten-free, low carb, and vegetarian meals to name a few), how many meals you’d like to cook each week (choose between 2-6 meals), and how many people you’re cooking for (choose between 2-5 people).

What’s the catch?

When you try Home Chef, you’ll be automatically signed up for weekly meal delivery. Each week, Home Chef will create an order for you unless you have either requested a skip or canceled your account. Skips and edits must be received by Friday at Noon prior to the scheduled delivery day.

There is NO commitment, NO Contract and your membership can be canceled any time.

Curious what Hip2Save thought of Home Chef?

Overall we loved the recipes – they were delicious! We also liked that the two meals came separately packaged, so you didn’t have to figure out which ingredients went with which meal. In addition, it was so nice that nothing went to waste since all of the ingredients are perfectly portioned for the recipes. Oh, and it’s definitely fun getting to try new meals that you wouldn’t typically cook!

Here’s what Hip2Save readers have to say about Home Chef

My husband and I have been getting meals from Home Chef for a couple of months now. We are pretty good cooks and were hesitant to try a meal delivery service. After some research, I decided that Home Chef was best as they offered low carb/cal. We are so pleased and happy with HC. The meat has been top quality and everything very fresh. The green beans that came with our last meal looked like they were picked right before they were packaged. I highly recommend Home Chef!

We’ve tried Hello Fresh, Home Chef, and Plated. Home Chef is BY FAR the best. The flavors aren’t too crazy but still allow us to explore things we’ve never tried before. Plus 2 meals feed all 4 of us (me, hubs & kids).

This is totally worth it for the cuts of meat and no wastefulness. I’m just an okay cook so I usually shy away from meats like steak, pork, and fish because I often do it wrong and it’s barely edible. Or I don’t know what cut or type to buy. I have found the meat they include to be very fresh and with just the right amount of fat, marbling, etc. – so I don’t have to worry. They tell me exactly how to cook it, so I am preparing, what feels to me, gourmet stuff!

Not a great option if you don’t feel like cooking. these still need to be cooked! 🙂

    • Denise A

Exactly what said when I read the title. The meals are really good tho.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

lol Good catch! I’m gonna update the title as I agree that these don’t make sense for those who don’t want to be in the kitchen cooking. 😉

  2. Shannan

I love their meals. I’ve been ordering a few the last moth or so and everything has been great and easy to prepare.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I’m happy you have enjoyed them! Thanks for the feedback!

if you don’t want to cook, you should definitely NOT order home meal prep delivery services. they all require following a recipe, using your pans and dishes, and using the stove and oven. you will be cooking every time you use this.

We are going on vacation next week, staying in an Airbnb house and have Sunbasket set up to deliver to where we are staying! Perfect way to save a little bit by not eating out every night but still enjoying good food, and having a little fun cooking too 🙂

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      That’s a great idea!

If you have an American Express credit card, you also may have a Homechef offer available. Some Amex cards have a offer for $10 off a order of $ 50 or more with Homechef. You can use that offer up to 4 times. You can combine both offers for max savings.

I tried Homechef before and it is a great service. The recipe cards comes with a binder for easy storage. Also Homechef gives you the option of ordering a fruit smoothie and/or a fruit basket as a add on. Those add-ons only cost $5 dollars I believe.

    • ecroston

Thank you mentioning the binder! I never received one and didn’t even know they offered one. I’ve been keeping mine in a Ziploc gallon bag haha so I emailed customer service and they responded right back, to apologize for not sending one and saying they dropped it in the mail for me.

Does anybody have a free box to send for a friend in any meal subscriptions? I know somebody (forgot which subscription) that said when they signed up, they had box credit to give away for free. Or can somebody give me a discount code? My email is Xna10e(@)gmaildotcom. Thanks in advance

I’ve been doing Home Chef for at least 6 months, off and on, now and I love it! So much better than Hello Fresh. There are tons of menu options each week and if you don’t like anything, you can just skip the week. I’ve skipped 3+ weeks at a time with no issues. The recipes don’t contain crazy or odd ingredients and they are easy to recreate on your own – we’ve added at least 8 of them to our usual rotation. Then when we get bored with food, I just get more meals. Everything has always been super fresh and the portions are big enough where you actually feel full after eating (we had an issue with HF that we were still hungry after). Feel free to use my link for $30 off, I’d greatly appreciate it =) https://www.homechef.com/invite/r1zpyi2R2rk1

As an example of meals – I’m getting the following tomorrow – Steak Wellington with roasted carrots and mushroom demi-glace; Chicken Chimichangas with homemade pico de gallo and rice; Crispy Onion Chicken with creamy mushroom sauce and green beans; and Jerk Salmon with Caribbean slaw. Some weeks they will have premium meals that are $19.90 per serving rather than $9.90 so next week for Father’s Day, I’m upgrading to the Filet Mignon with Smoked Gouda-Potato Gratin with bordelaise sauce and buttered green beans. You can also upgrade some meals to 4 servings instead of 2 so you have leftovers. They have Smoothies and Seasonal Fruit Baskets for $4.95 per serving available for add-on. There are “5-Minute Lunches” for $7.99 per serving, 2 or 4 servings usually and about 3 different options.

Thank you so much Elle! I hope you enjoy it as much as we have =)

I wanted to check out the meals they were offering for this week, but they require you to pay first 🤷‍♀️. And some meals I may only want 2 others I might want 4 depending on the selection.

Signed up through another Hip2Saver’s link…excited to try out my box next week! If anyone would like to pay it forward and use my link to sign up, I’d appreciate it! https://www.homechef.com/invite/BKD4aFV2VN6M
