Thanks for sharing! As an adult who went back to school and uses Amazon frequently, this is great!!

They will want you to set up a new account with your email address from the school if you already have an account. I spent some time with customer service and they walked me through added the instead of creating a whole account because I did not want lose my account history. So there is hope but it take works!

When I signed up for my 6 month free trial of Amazon Student on 9/15/11, students didn’t get all of the benefits that they get now. I only gpt the shipping benefits and the lightning deal access. I used the shipping benefits alot in September and October to buy a crap-ton of Legos for a project for my Asian art class. I also bought two sets from Walmart. I used over 3,300 pieces in that project. I got an A.

Amazon’s two day shipping claim is a joke. It has been more like four or five days since at least 2014. It doesn’t matter what day of the week I place my order. It doesn’t get to me in two days. In 2011, if I ordered early enough in the day, the day I placed my order would count as one of the two days. It is almost always delivered by USPS, or FedEx Smartpost(USPS), or UPS SurePost(USPS). It is only delivered by FedEx or UPS directly if I request one day shipping. It used to be only FedEx or UPS directly unless I ordered from a third party that wasn’t fulfilled by Amazon.

You do not get access to amazon music with the free student trial. I was very bummed to find this out.

Thanks for letting us know! We just updated the post.

Beware! I have used this for quite some time. First, you don’t get access to many services and promotions including promotions designed for Amazon Family (so, no 20% off diaper deals), no music. Second, 2 day shipping is no more two days. Third and the worst experience I had is this: they somehow will charge your account even after you discontinue after 6 months. I cancelled my membership, received email notification saying that it was cancelled. Then after two months, when I was reviewing my credit card statement I found 2 consecutive membership charges on my card from Amazon – for two months in a row. I called them back, they reviewed everything and said it “somehow happened / system error,” apologized to me but no compensation. There was no record that I activated it by mistake or anything, just their error!! This is unacceptable. Fast forward to next month, I placed an order on Amazon having no prime membership. I made sure I had enough in my cart to get free shipping ($40). When I was checking out, I clicked on “get 2 day free shipping” and then it automatically activated my prime again. In their saying “free 2 day shipping” = prime membership which they won’t say unless you really read the tiny fine prints somewhere! I called back immediately after realizing but they won’t refund me. I cancelled my Amazon thereafter with no plan to get it anytime sooner. This is just so greedy attitude for a corporation like them. I wonder hoe many people fall in this cancellation trap not ever realizing that they are paying every month for a service that they are not using or even aware of. It gets very difficult to cancel membership if you have it once. I recommend everyone keep an eye on their back / credit card statements.

Just get the Prime membership. That way your college student and family have full access to everything. You really can’t beat their college textbook prices with the free 2 day ship. We use Amazon a lot in our household.

my daughter is a college student and got the 6 months free and we paid 49 for the renewal. we love it, and its’ the only prime membership we have.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a roughly four hour window of no lightning deals right now? One of the last deals went live at 9:55pm CT, and the next deal doesn’t start until 2:00am CT.
