Has anyone bought this blanket?Does it work?

    • Ivan

We had them when the kids were younger. To be honest, I don’t think they did anything. A stuffed animal works much better. They are heavy and hot in the summer. They feel like one of the jacket/blankets the dentist puts on you before they take an X-ray.

      • Alli

I actually love those vests at the dentists office. Its relaxing to me.

        • Mindy

          Same!!!

        • Helen in Meridian

          Me too

        • Raelyn

          Me too!

          • Cheryl S

Same!! I just had a root canal and asked them to keep the vest on my after the xray because it was helping my anxiety!

            • Dyan

I just had a tooth cleaning and I asked for the vest to stay on. I plan on buying one for my daughter’s anxiety.

        • Gail

          me too

      • joedoe

Yes blankets are hot in the summer.

    • Melissa

I have a 20lb blanket and I love it. It helps me relax at night and go to sleep easier.

      • Shai

        Is this too hot?

    • Tina

I have one and I love it. I sleep so well when I can get my hands on it. So I’m buying these because I have 2 ADHD boys that steal my blanket for themselves which tells me they like it. Some days I hear them fighting over it 😂 Kohl’s her I come.

  2. K

Does anyone know if Target will have a heavier weighted blanket? Like a 15 or 20 pound?

    • Jennifer (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Keep watching! We will post if they do, K!

    • Jenny

They have an 18lb one. Not sure if it will be on sale. But the 12lb on is in stores so you can go check it out.

    • Ashley

There is a 15 lb one on sale right now for 109.99 — if you have a Kohl’s charge, it’ll be $62.99 with the Veteran’s Day $10 off $25 coupon, the $10 off $50 home coupon, and the 30% off — assuming that it remains in stock by then! 😊

      • Sherry

Do you maybe have a link to the 15lb one that’s the $109? I’m not finding it. Thanks!

    • Ashley

My bad — didn’t catch the Target part!

    • Tonys

They have an 18lb just bought one

    • Donna

they have them in 12 or 18

    • Stacey

They have an 18 lb one avail now for 25% off

    • Sandy

Target has the 18 lb blanket in grey and ivory for 69.99 but for 50.00 on Black Friday

  3. Mamamia

I have a Korean mink blanket from overseas, which has amazing weight and softness to it..I know they sell them on amazon too. Mine is a king size and I sleep so well with it!

    • Jennifer (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I have one of those from when my husband was stationed in Korea! They are beautiful and great!

      • Deborah Broughton

My dad was stationed in Korea before I was born and we had one that we all fought over growing up. It never occurred to be that it was essentially a weighted blanket! lol.

    • Vanessa

So funny, my husband sent me a tiger print mink blanket from when he was stationed in Korea and I still sleep with it on our bed. He was in Korea in 1996 and the blanket still looks new even with regular washing.

    • Samuel

I have one that I bought in 2001, when I was stationed in Korea. I still love that thing and sleep with it every night.

  4. Traci

Does doorbuster mean it will be in store only for Target? I’m thinking I might try this with my ADHD 6 year old who wakes up in my bed almost every night. Can’t cause any harm at least. Just too short for my preferences.

    • Jennifer (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Doorbuster means it’s a super hot deal. We will likely see these online, but cannot guarantee it.

    • C

You might want to try a Lycra sheet. It gives that same sensory input and feeling of snugness, but you don’t have to worry about it being too heavy or falling off the bed. My DD has asd and loves her Lycra sheet.

      • Traci

Big bro is asperger’s so we’ve tried the Lycra sheets with him but now both are refusing top sheets period. And fitted must be microfiber which isn’t all that unreasonable compared to burlap kid sheets. He’s been choosing multiple blankets though so I’ve wondered about weight. I realize it’s heavier than “ideal” but at such a lower price than lighter ones I’m still pondering this as a test. Both hate compressive tops. Thanks for the input though!

        • Mamamia

Check out the Korean blankets on amazon

        • C

It really is about finding what works for your child. 🙂 My DD never cared for her weighted blanket, top sheets, or compression tops, but she just loves her lycra sheets. Have you looked at etsy for ones with less weight? You can also make your own if you have a sewing machine and some time. Crossing my fingers that you find a sleep solution soon.

        • Tammi

Get one that is for your child’s weight. My 11 year old grandson has the 7lb one and it’s perfect for his body size and weight. We bought one that was a throw and it’s perfect for him! The best purchase I’ve made ever!

        • Joy

The usual rule of thumb is 10 % of body weight when picking out a blanket. I am a special ed teacher and I have kids who love the weighted items and kids who dont. Def worth a try!

    • Amanda

I believe that the recommendation for a child is a weighted blanket that’s 10% of their body weight, plus 1-2 pounds. A 12 pound blanket would be too heavy for a 6 year old

      • Jamie

Thank you, I was getting anxiety when these went mainstream. Any child should be able to fully put on and remove a weighted blanket before using it.

    • Christal Herbst

You will be able to get it online for sure the evening before.

    • Donna

when using w kids be careful….it shouldn’t be more tha 10% of their bodyweight

    • Anna

The blanket should not be more than 10% of the user’s body weight. This blanket should be used for someone 120lbs or more.

    • melissaudovich

I’d double check the weight of the blanket. It may be too heavy for an 6 year old. The correct weight of the blanket should be 10% of the child’s weight plus 1-2 pounds.

    • maia

Which brand did you buy? Vivalon? Thx

  5. Christine

I’ve been waiting for weighted blankets to drop in price for years. I might finally. It’s and buy one. I want one so bad.

  6. Leah Peterson

My boys have sensory processing issues they did not sleep through the night until we got them a weighted blanket for them. They are wonderful especially if your child is on the spectrum.

  7. chey

They do not look to be washable… anyone ever wash theirs?

    • ruthwoodleroy

I wash my 20lb blanket in a regular washing machine. No issues.

  8. katie

I really hope that Target and Kohls educates their staff on these blankets. They really aren’t for everyone and the weight is based on the user’s weight-you shouldn’t just buy an arbitrary weight. Their are TONS of sellers on etsy and amazon that have been making these for years and are a much better resource for such a personalized item, besides, you are supporting a small business!

  9. Bonnie

Some are washable but this one states under the description:
Care and Cleaning: Spot or wipe clean & Line dry or lay flat to dry

  10. Sherry Vickers

As a child in Alabama we didn’t have any heat except a fireplace which didn’t keep bedrooms warm, so we slept under a ton of hand quilted blankets. They were so heavy we didn’t move til morning. I guess we were getting the benefit of weighted blankets and didn’t even know it.😊

  11. John

Are these the exact same blankets? Just curious as to why there is such a disparity between the regular prices from each retailer.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Great question. I am not finding specific details listed from Kohl’s to say it is exactly the same as the one offered from Target, however these are VERY similar when clicking through each link and comparing both blankets listed. Hope that helps!

    • Elizabeth

In my experience Kohl’s “regular price” for similar or identical items tends to be higher than most places which I think is somewhat due to the regularity with which they offer huge coupons and sales. People visually see this huge discount and buy without researching. Like when they put their playschool or little tikes on sale for 50% off almost all the time. If you google the toy the regular listed price is usually much more similar to kohl’s 50% off price then it is to kohl’s regular price. All that to say based on what you can get from both websites they are very similar if not identical and that the
Price disparity is likely due to kohl’s typical marketing techniques.

  12. Holly

My niece Daniell hand makes these and weighted lap pads. She is a single mother of 2 boys with autism. Check her out at Positive Sensory Works!

  13. Laura

I ordered one and my husband likes it. The only draw back is it is short. It said on the label not for children, be sure that you check to make sure the weight is right for kids.

  14. Carol Feldman

These blankets are excellent for anyone that is Autistic.

  15. Ruth

I have a 20lb and I love it. Use it every night and do not find them hot at all.

  16. Pink3xs

    Tip:
the ideal blanket is 10% of your body weight.

  17. Colleen M Peck

I see it in the Target ad for the sale price, but don’t see it in the kohls add.. any ideas? Obviously makes more sense to purchase from kohls to get the kohls cash.

  18. Starla

Has anyone seen one appropriate for kids in any Black Friday sales? My daughter is 74 lbs, 8 years old and could really use one for sleep issues. I know she needs one 8 – 10 lbs.

  19. Martha Aders

I went to Kohl’s on Black Friday, they had the blankets listed as a doorbuster. You could also shop online that morning at 12:01 a.m. They were out of stock even before they opened the doors. I went online at 12:01 and they were out of stock then. Bad advertising.

    • Starla

Yeah both Target and Kohl’s were sold out instantly. I wound up finding ones during the Cyber Monday sales. $40 each for the ones for my kids on Overstock.com and then $100 for myself on Wayfair.com

  20. Marci Landreth

My client jumped trough hoops and got one of these and sold it to me for $50:00 . She paid more. I was going to mail it to my bro in nursing home but not sure as he’s in Louisianna. and it’s warm there. She just brought it over yesterday and I’ll sell to first comer for $50:00
