The ube, or purple yam flavor, is sweet & nutty with hints of coconut. Some people claim that it tastes like a cross between vanilla & pistachio. Yum!
Trader Joe’s uses real ube purée in this ice cream and the purple hue comes from naturally derived ingredients like grape extract & beet juice. Each serving is just 200 calories.

This is yummy. I went back and got 6 more pints.
That’s so great to know! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, Stella C!
Whaaaattttt?!? They have UBE?!? 😋
It was delicious. I should have gotten one but opted for cookie butter ice cream instead
Cookie Butter ice cream sounds yummy!
Thanks for this-going now to get some!:)
You’re very welcome! Enjoy!
Fun! We use to eat Ube ice cream at a fun little ice cream shop in San Francisco. I haven’t ever seen it anywhere else!
i’m surprised TJ has this. I’m going to have to try their version. We’ve only ever seen it at Asian stores especially filipino stores. That and Halo halo ice cream are super yummy
Ahhhhh! I think I know that little SF shop. Actually now I think there were 2 places I went. One in the sunset and one in the mission area but I could be wrong.
Haha! Yay TJs. This is totally a normal thing in Hawaii!!
Love UBE! It is commonly found in Filipino markets. It does remind me coconut and pistachio flavors 🙂
You guys should try it.. its delicious!
I love ube ice cream. Our favorite ice cream in the Philippines. 🙂
Thanks for the comment, Maria! Looking through these comments have definitely made me want to try it!
Thanks for another Philippine themed post! You guys rock!
You’re so welcome, Marie!
Ube!! My all-time favorite and very popular dessert and treat from the Philippines! This flavor is one of my favorite kind of ice cream growing up.. and I would recommend you guys try it! I can’t wait to try this one. Thanks Hip2Save this made me so excited. Anything Ube excites me! 😊😊😊
Anything ube is my favorite growing up in the Philippines. Ube ice cream, ube hopia, ube pastillas and halaya ube. All yummy!
Aww, Thanks for the recommendation, Janine! I’ve never tried it, but I can’t wait to grab some! You are SO very welcome!
If anyone knows, is ube like murasakimo (I think that’s the purple potato in Japan). I really liked that soft serve flavor when I was there and this is making me hopeful and excited.
Some of y’all really need a Filipino friend. I can’t believe how many people don’t know what this is or how to even pronounce it. You all would die if you tried a halo halo. You should at least google it.
Not to mention how good an ube cake or ube slush bubble tea taste!
We just bought this yesterday! They were giving samples out with crushed cookies on top. It’s delicious!
YUM! 😋
What’s catching my eye is the one just beside it, the chocolate ice cream *made with coconut milk*. That’s how they make local ice cream in the Philippines (the coconut tree and “nipa hut” drawing suggests that’s where they drew the inspiration from. This would pair so well with the ube ice cream.
Back home ice cream was peddled in the streets and the sellers would ring their bells so you know they’re in the area. Ahh, the memories!
How neat! Thanks so much for sharing your memory with us, Carrie!
Just got this yesterday and it’s really good! You can taste the Ube for real and even have tiny bits in it. 😆 had to stop myself before I finish the whole point in one sitting!
Wow Ube! That’s Filipino delicacy! Hello there my fellow Filipinos
