Help Teachers #ClearTheList!

With back to school season upon us, thousands of teachers across the country are working to prepare their classrooms for the new school year and this typically means stocking up on school supplies.

Did you know that many teachers pay for a majority of classroom supplies out of their own pocket? Yes, it’s true! Classroom supplies are not cheap and some school districts struggle, leaving many teachers to pay for school supplies on their own.

YOU can help by joining the #ClearTheList movement!

This movement was started by a school teacher earlier this month in the form of a Facebook group called “Support A Teacher – Teacher Gifting“. This group provides a place for school teachers and professionals to share their Classroom Wish Lists so that generous donors across the worlds can fulfill the item(s) on these lists.

Just choose a teacher in need, click on their wish list and start shopping!

Teachers and educational professionals can head over to Amazon, create a classroom wish list and then share their lists publicly. Even better, anyone can ‘donate’ items that are on the list and after making a donation, donors can even leave a note or message letting the teacher know how much they are appreciated. So awesome!

Teachers, follow these steps to make your own classroom wish list on Amazon:

  • Head over over to Amazon and hover over Account & List at the top of any Amazon.com page. Select ‘Create a List’ from the drop-down menu.
  • Choose the Wish list and whether you want the list to be private or public. You can also designate whether your list is for an organization and if so, you’ll have the option to provide the website address of the organization.
  • Click ‘Save’ and then you can start adding items to your list!
  • To add items to your wish list, simply browse Amazon for products and then click ‘Add to List’ under the Buy box on the right-hand side of any item’s product detail page.
  • Only list owners can make changes through Manage List. Both list owners and collaborators will be able to add and remove items.

Teachers do so much for our kids so let’s help them out in any way we can!

I’m a kindergarten teacher at a title 1 school. More than anything in this world, I want children to find the joy and excitement that comes with learning! For four and five-year-olds this means shying away from computer games and learning towards hands-on experiences and activities.

Our school just announced we are going into the hybrid model. This means I need supplies for both the home learning environment and individual student bins in the classroom. Over the course of my teaching career I have never sent home a classroom materials list to families, as I know many face tremendous financial struggles. Each year I happily purchase all of the supplies for our classroom community. I’m just not sure I can afford to buy double of everything! Any and all help would mean the absolute world to my little learners and their wonderful families.

      Eleanor,
Thank you for sharing a little bit of your background and your dream for your class. I appreciate the context.
I sent some supplies your way. Some should be arriving by tomorrow night at the latest (Friday 8/28) while the crayons are taking a little longer (ETA 9/4-9/10). I hope you receive everything safely.
Hopefully this helps lighten the load a little. Keep up the great work. Cheers to a successful year navigating this unique circumstances together.

      Hi Lora,
I’m sending a few books your way. One is arriving on 8/31 and a few others are arriving on Friday, 9/4. Hopefully everything gets to you alright. Great choices in books btw! They’re especially relevant in these times and I hope they help your little ones understand how to make responsible decisions and stay healthy/well. Though I couldn’t order a copy for each of your school’s classrooms. I’m hoping you’ll be able to make scans or share them (in a safe manner). Warm regards.

      Shannon,
I tried to send you a few items but when I’m ready to purchase, your (hidden) address doesn’t pop up as an option. I’m not sure if that’s a setting/feature you have to change. Just a heads up. I’ll try again tomorrow.

          Hi Shannon,
Thanks for updating the address/doing whatever you did! It worked!
The books should be arriving by the end of this weekend at the latest.
I hope everything arrives safely. Best of luck with your first year teaching!
I can only imagine how cute those kindergarteners will be. Warm regards.

I am a fourth-grade teacher in Connecticut. We are currently implementing a hybrid model with two different cohorts and also full-time distance learners. My goal is to make my students (and their families) feel as comfortable and safe as possible while having fun learning. This list will help me do just that!

I am a 5th grade teacher in small private school in MN. This year we were told we get no budget to buy things for our room. I had a semi flexible seating classroom and my students always loved all the seating options I had. Unfortunately I had to remove all those items. I created my Amazon wishlist with one seating option that would be easily cleaned and of course books because fresh books are always a good way to spark interest! Thanks for looking.

I am a first grade teacher starting the year in a hybrid model. The new regulations make school “look” a lot different. We need to social distance and not share materials . Very hard concept for anyone, especially the little ones! These materials will allow the students to have the activities at their desk. My goal is to make learning fun and effective during this difficult time! Thank you!😃

I am a 2nd year special education teacher at a Title 1 school. This year I will be teaching in a new program and have been preparing my classroom for the new regulations that this school year brings. Any help that can be given to add to my classroom would be greatly appreciated! Whether it is a sensory tool for a student or a new read aloud, just one item goes such a long way. Thank you!

Anyone out there still willing to help a teacher? I’m a 4th grade teacher(in the heart of Los Angeles, CA) starting a unit on Poetry and would love for my students to see themselves and their stories reflected in the poems and books we read. A diverse class library is what my students deserve. Please help!

I am beginning teaching STEM and computer science. The curriculum has additional resource books to compliment the activities. My wish list covers the books for all of the K-5 lessons that I teach, in person and virtually. We have reduced much of our hands on activities. The additional resources will help add depth to our lessons.

    Thank you!
