Honest opinion here guys…. these matted animals never get soft and cute. My son followed instructions unwrapped “the ball of animal” washed it and when it looked like a sad, sad toy that was out for days we were getting conditioner, detangler and anything to get that brush through but it always felt gross and stringy. Buyer beware on these balls of fun.
Was about to post the same thing, it just ended up looking like a sad old toy in the end and my daughter was disappointed it looked nothing like the picture on the box.
Agree! My daughter was very disappointed.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us, Amy! We sure appreciate the feedback!
Yes! Waste of money! My daughter bought one at $20 last year with a GC. I wouldn’t even spend $7.50 on this. We ended up tossing it not too long after.
Thank you for all the great finds! I started Christmas shopping in June thanks to this site! I hope to be finished by Halloween 🙂
SWEET! You are very welcome, Stacey! Super glad you have been able to get a head start on your holiday shopping! I need to do the same!
Our animal is still scruffy as well! My daughter got one for a birthday gift. However, It was a nice conversation starter with my 3 and 1 year old about finding abandoned, neglected animals…cleaning them up and taking care of them and adopting them as your pet, though! It’s a good visual representation of animal adoption and opens up a dialog for young kids! My daughter still loves her bunny even though its fur still looks pretty sad lol it had a hard life! We just love her anyways!
Aww, How sweet! Thanks so much for taking the time to share with us, Carrie Ann!
I cannot recommend this toy. My daughter received one for Christmas and it was a huge pain to get it even remotely soft. It looks like something we picked up off the side of the road! Just a warning!
My daughter also got it for her birthday followed directions and it is still very scruffy ( quite ugly in my opinion )it is soft and cuddly and my daughter loved bathing it and grooming she takes it every where and has even named it Scruffa
I’m so glad everyone shared their feedback. I was ready to pick this up as gifts but think I’ll pass now. Cute concept though!
Worst toy. And to think we spent full price on it, too. I wouldn’t even buy at this price!
We have 2- the first looks about like everyone said- still a little scruffy but I think we got most of the hard stuff off. Then my daughter just HAD to have one of these- I let her finally get one with her money if she chose when found for $5 on clearance…. we washed and rinsed really good then put in the dryer for a bit and she brushed- this one looks quite a bit better
Yep-my daughter told me this morning that she thinks she needs to rewash and start over because hers is so matted. There no amount of “love” that’ll make that animal cute or soft haha
Oh darn! Thanks for the honest comment, Jenna!
LOL. We had the same issues. I put it in the washer and then the dryer. It came out a bit better. My daughter still loves it and wanted another. So that’s another Christmas gift off the list. Thanks hip2save. Last year I had a hard time finding three. This year it was a breeze! Keep up the good work!!
Oh perfect! You’re so welcome! Happy you could check another item off of your list!
Amazon says $12.97 for me now
Darn! Thanks, Melissa!
I know a lot of people don’t like that these never really get soft and cute (definite false advertising), but my girls love them! In fact, one daughter got one as a birthday gift and the other insisted on buying one with her own money even after seeing the results. We did put it in the washer on delicate cycle and then fluffed in the dryer, which helped a little. They aren’t super cute (maybe in a so ugly it’s cute kind of way?), but my girls really love them for some reason!
The directions say to “spin cycle” which i totally ignored the first time around- and yes, it did look ugly. Second time we soaked it good and did the spin cycle and it was 100% improvement and came out super cute. I will totally get these again. I still might at $12.97.
Oh interesting! Thanks so much for the helpful tip!
We followed the instructions, and all of ours came out great. It’s really important to wash out all the shampoo.
And beware Moms- there’s a new line out that are polar bears or something- my daughter has already asked lol
Oh my! Thanks so much for the heads up, Alex!
We have several of these- and I have to say my 5 yr old loves these! She has a big heart for animals and disadvantaged ones. Yes, they are ugly, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder lol.
And for those who say it doesn’t get soft – avoid using regular shampoo, use fabric softener!
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, Wynn! It’s wonderful to hear about your daughter’s compassion for disadvantage animals! 🙂
