$30 for a child’s Advent Calendar?? No thank you! I’ll stick with the Aldi Advent Calendars filled with German chocolates that usually sell for $5.
it’s true, you can get crap waxy chocolate for $5… or! mix it up! show your kids there’s more to life than stuffing food in their face and get them an actual item for a little more!
Yikes, that was unnecessarily harsh
š
Do you feel better about yourself now Kate?
Lol
Much! š Thanks for checking in!
Mom Iām pretty sure having one little chocolate treat a day from an advent calendar is not stuffing your face full of food. Iām argument could be made for buying more āstuffā that nobody needs.
Well that escalated quickly
Why are you so mad? We all parent differently. Our kid has a new toy and a book calendar every year. We save our money so we can spend it on our family.
Youāre right. $30 is ridiculous. Many people here buy and like the $5 Aldi Calendar. Ignore Kate. She clearly has āissues.ā
awww, you’re so sweet
or trader joeās for $1.99!!!!!
Iām with you Mary W
We do both, chocolate and a toy calendar. Itās tradition and my kids really enjoy them both. Our elf brings them.
There are so many choices this year my kids have had a hard time choosing! We used to get Lego every year, but now my older boys have moved on to Funko. These ones are cute for my three year olds!
I try to get them on sale and save them for the next year. But I think I didnāt find one for my 3 year old and need to get one. We did Peppa Pig last year and she loved it. Anyone ever get the Disney junior one before? Stickers are my enemy, so that part scares me a bit š± they end up everywhere they shouldnāt!
We also had sticker issues with my kiddos! They were on everything!! The Peppa Pig one last year was super cute! Good luck in finding a good one that fits your family this year, MJ!
My daughter did that once with postal stamps when she was 2 š¤¦š¼āāļø I avoid stickers now too lol
OMG! Not only did it stick to everything, but they cost a lot!
I was super lucky to find a Frozen Advent calendar way back in January for $3 on clearance at TJ Maxx! With Frozen 2 coming out at the end of November I think itās going to be a hit!
How perfect was that! So glad you got that, Joy!
Smart move. Way to save!
We used to do the little chocolate advent calendars, but my kids lost interest half way through December and didnāt love the chocolates. So weāve done toy ones (and ulta beauty for my 15-yr-old) the last two years and it is now one of their favorite ātraditionsā. Definitely more money, but itās something they participate in all month, so worth it for us š
My 7-yr-old has her eye on the monster high advent calendar š
Canāt believe weāre already gearing up for Christmas! Happy fall yāall š
Thanks for the advent calendar ideas Hip2Save!
You are so welcome! I do love the idea of the beauty calendars for teens, Jacy!
Jennifer, I would love a hip2save sidekick to tell us about all the different types of Advent Calendars ( and a link for each š)
Hi Susan! That’s a great idea! Last year we lined them up here. Once they start coming out for 2019, we will come out with a similar list!
Paying $30 for an advent calendar like that is not smart in my opinion. Youād expect something like Lego at that price.
I use a advent calendar that is refillable, so I purchase inexpensive items, candy, and sometimes include a ācouponā for various things (their choice for the family game, movie, etc.).
Another fun advent tradition we do is wrap up books and pick out one to read each night. Some are ones we already own, some from the library and some are new. Each night we unwrap a book and read it under the Christmas tree. My kids really look forward to the surprise of what book itāll be and they really seem to enjoy the quiet time together. Thereās just something about reading by the light of the tree that makes it feel extra special.
Aww, I love those ideas, Cindy! Thanks so much for taking the time to share with us!
I love the variety of advent calendars out there. Christmas only comes once a year, so I think splurging is fine. I’d never buy the advent calendars with the nasty cheap chocolates, no one in my family would eat them.
