Thousands of Disney Plus User Accounts Have Been Hacked (Change Your Password Now)
Did you sign up for Disney Plus?
Within hours of rolling out their new streaming service last week, thousands of Disney+ user accounts have already been hacked. According to multiple investigations, hackers are locking out owners, changing log-in credentials and, in many cases, selling them for as little as $3 a piece.
When Disney+ first went live, many users experienced an outage. Unfortunately, this is the second time that Disney+ customers have had trouble logging in since the service launched last week.
While Disney+ itself does not appear to have been hacked, Disney+ customers’ credentials were stolen in other security breaches. If you have had issues logging into your Disney+ account, Disney urges members to contact customer support immediately for assistance.
Also, if you suspect your password has been compromised, be sure to change your password, use a different password for each Disney account, and use two-factor authentication.
I had a huge issue with this from day one in that the password for Disney Plus is the password to my ShopDisney account, Disney World account, Annual pass holder account, cruise line account, DVC (Disney vacation club) member account, etc….if hackers get one, they get them all and a couple of these accounts have some very serious info in them. When I contacted Disney+ they informed me that Disney wanted it to be a singular account access with one email/password and wouldn’t separate the accounts for me despite stating this fear and doing so for TWO hours with them! If anyone find a way to get the Disney+ only password changed, please let me know!
Unfortunately I remember getting an email a few months ago informing me that now all my Disney accounts would have the same log in. I agree with you that this is ill-conceived and at this time and age when hacks happen so often, and when we are constantly reminded to use different passwords, Disney shouldn’t have done the opposite – create one log in.
Set it up under a different email. My husband setup our account, but all our Disney stuff is in my email. They are separate accounts. That’s BS. They don’t have to be the same.
Wow. I thought Disney would have tighter security than that. Hacked in the first week.
Disney wasn’t hacked, previous security breeches and customers still using old passwords with the same email seems to be the issue. Probably from when yahoo, equifax, target, verizon, google etc breaches these past few months/years. If your password is over 3 months old or you use the same password for more than one account someone somewhere has it.
I got an email this morning saying they were Disney and to verify my account. I don’t have Disney Plus. Maybe, this is how the hackers got people’s information?
I didn’t sign up for Disney+ either and still got an email…🤷🏼♀️Hmmm
Do you have an account with Disney world through the my Disney experience app or website? Or on shop Disney? Because they are all connected if you use the same email address and therefore they all use the same login and password. If any are compromised all are compromised.
That was fast…
There is no evidence of a Disney+ breach.
Many people reuse passwords across services. So if username “myemail@you.com” with password “letmein” was breached from another site 3 years ago, it’s floating around the dark web, and hackers attempt them as new services launch. If that same user signed up for Disney+ with recycled, previously compromised credentials, their account could be stolen without Disney being breached.
Thanks! Just changed my password. I did not get an email.
You’re welcome, Carrie!
Was it actually Disney or hackers trying to get your credentials? You’ll want to look at the email address.
This could affect Verizon customers that signed up for free too, right?
Disney wasn’t hacked. Scammers are sending emails posing as Disney and asking for people’s passwords. And people are giving them to them. Do t ever give your password through an email!
Yes. We found out that the password is the same for ESPN, Disney+ and if you babe Disneyinsiders (formerly Disney movie rewards). Once we figured that out both the husband and I stopped resetting our password etc. because he would access ESPN. While I accessed disneyinsiders. It was a mess. But now we know it’s the same across all their affiliated sites.
And i just downloaded the disney+ app last night because it was free from Verizon! Hah!
Like others have said, Disney wasn’t hacked. Scammers are sending out bogus emails asking you to verify your Disney log in info and people are falling for it. No different than sending the Nigerian prince your banking info because he feels generous and wants to wire you $10 million.
I’m so sick of hackers. We live in sad times. My Netflix account was hacked last month and it took forever to sort it all out and now we have passwords of all sorts for all our accounts. My advice is for people to change passwords often, especially if you have your accounts linked to stuff. I just use a ledger so I can remember them, I know it’s dumb to write it down but if not I’d never remember all of them.
