A.C. Moore Is Going Out of Business and Closing All Stores
There’s another store closure in the news! 😱
Arts and crafts retailer, A.C. Moore, is planning to close all stores, according to a press release from parent company, Nicole Crafts. A.C. Moore currently operates 145 stores and employs over 5,000 people. CEO Anthony Piperno said in a statement:
For over 30 years, our stores have been servicing the creative community with a vast selection of art and craft materials, with one common focus, the customer. Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today’s environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a national level.
While company officials haven’t revealed exactly when the closures would begin, as many as 40 of the closing locations will eventually reopen as Michaels Stores. Michaels CEO, Mark Cosby, said:
This transaction enables us to further expand our presence in strategic markets and serve even more customers both online and in store. We are looking forward to re-opening these stores under the Michaels name in 2020 and welcoming new team members.
Although ACMoore.com is no longer accepting online orders, the store will honor and ship any orders that were previously placed through the website.

Oh my! How sad!! 🙁
Hopefully a lot of people will get their jobs back when michaels reopens.
What? 😳
I am surprised some are opening as Michaels stores. The Michaels store near us closed!
Oh no! I have $60 in gift cards to use. I don’t live anywhere near an AC Moore store. Wonder if they will honor the gift cards at Michael’s stores.
Do you have any friends that live by one. You can have them go to the store with your card and buy what you need. I did that with a friend of mine. I mailed her the card and she bought what I needed and shipped the stuff for me. She took pictures and sent them to me while we were on the phone so I pretty much shopped with her.
Can we use gift cards anywhere cuz I called Michele in Braintree, m nd they don’t take them.
No they will not
I kind of expected one of the craft stores to close. In our city AC Moore & Michaels are right across each other and Hobby Lobby & Joann Fabrics are a few blocks away. Seems like too much competition in a small city of ours. Wish we had Costco within 2hr radius of our city though. We have Sam’s & I think they’re avoiding the competition around here. I shop a lot at Sam’s (spend at least a couple hundred each week there… I have 6 kids) & would’ve probably shopped less if we had Costco around here.
I wonder up to what date gift cards will be accepted. My nearest store is about half an hour away but I don’t want to lose out on my gift cards.
This will only mean higher prices, less sales and less coupons at Michaels. There is no more competition for them. Hobby Lobby and Joanns don’t carry as much craft stuff. The consumer always loses in these situations.
How odd, our AC Moore just opened not even a year ago. Theyre across from a Michaels so wont reopen.
Anyone remember the $5 birthday coupons they used to offer to children as part of their birthday club? We used to save them and then stacked them to make one larger purchase.
