Family Dollar Recalls Products in 400 Stores Due to Rodent Infestation
Family Dollar has issued a voluntary recall of certain products due to the presence of significant rodent activity at one of the company’s distribution centers.
While investigating a consumer complaint last month, an FDA inspection of Family Dollar’s West Memphis, AR distribution center revealed live rodents, dead rodents in various states of decay, rodent feces and urine, evidence of gnawing, nesting, and rodent odors throughout the facility, dead birds and bird droppings, and products stored in conditions that did not protect against contamination.
The affected products were all stored at Family Dollar Distribution Center #202 from January 1, 2021 through February 18, 2022. These items were then shipped to 404 stores in six states – Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
So far, there are no reports of illness related to this recall, but there are numerous potential health hazards associated with the presence of rodents. The use of any affected products may cause illness due to potential Salmonella contamination, which can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in the very young, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Products impacted by this recall include all drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and both human and pet food products. The recall does not apply to products shipped directly to the stores by the distributor or manufacturer, such as all frozen and refrigerated items. Family Dollar temporarily closed these stores in order to remove any affected products from their shelves. Customers that may have already bought the affected products may return them to the Family Dollar store where they were purchased without a receipt.

Customers should contact their health care provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to these products. Customers with concerns about pets who have consumed the recalled animal food products should contact their veterinarian.

I wonder if they meant to say W. Memphis, AR (Arkansas)? I live in Arkansas and it always gets mixed up with Alaska or Arizona.
So disgusting! Luckily I have only shop in a family dollar once or twice a year!

To be fair. Rodents can be a problem anywhere. Even in the grocery stores you shop now. Mice in bread aisles etc.
Can happen anywhere. Our grocery store was infested to the point that people were seeing mice run around in the middle of the day even. I’d get click list orders with corners of packages chewed thru. It was so disgusting I started driving 30 minutes to a different store. Health department never shut them down either.
Never been to one but live on West Coast. I inspect my purchase containers from any place (especially food) & agree it can happen anywhere.
A few stores are understandable but 400??
The distribution center was infested, not the individual stores, if I read the above correctly.
I don’t buy food from any of the those dollar stores (Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, Dollar General).
