Jif Peanut Butter Recall Update – More Food Products Added to List
Important announcement for you or your loved ones who may have Jif peanut butter products at home!
Have you purchased Jif peanut butter products recently?
Recently, the J.M. Smucker Co. began to voluntarily recall select Jif products. Since then, the voluntary recall has expanded to additional products containing select Jif products in the United States due to potential Salmonella contamination.
This issue was discovered after a multistate outbreak of Salmonella. Illnesses were reported in Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. The investigation led back to Jif brand peanut butter produced in the J.M. Smucker Company facility located in Lexington, Kentucky.
If you’ve purchased one of the Jif peanut butter products on the FDA’s Jif recall page, please be sure to head over to Jif.com to fill out their claim form in order to get a coupon for a replacement product. It’s a quick form and shouldn’t take you more than a couple of minutes to complete.
There have been 14 reported illnesses and 2 hospitalizations. The investigation into the Salmonella outbreak is still ongoing.

According to the FDA’s Jif recall page, there has been about 18 items recalled from shelves by companies that further processed the peanut butter by using it as an ingredient in new products or by repackaging it.
Many of these products are freshly prepared fruit, vegetable, and snack trays that include a single-serving cup of Jif peanut butter. In addition, be sure to check the pantry for Walmart-branded fudge made with Jif peanut butter, Albertsons mini peanut butter cream pies, and more.
The FDA instructs that consumers that have any Jif products with lot codes 1274425 – 2140425 in their possession should dispose of them immediately. The lot code is the first seven digits of the long number appearing near the “best by” date. You can see the entire list of affected Jif products here.
This product has a two-year shelf life so make sure to check all Jif peanut butter in your home. If you have any of the affected products in your home, you should dispose of them immediately.

My husband was hospitalized after eating Jeff peanut butter. Has been in going on four days. That’s the last thing he ate and right out of the jar. 104 temperature and extreme diarrhea. Nothing else has shown up in cultures or test. He loves his peanut butter. Got refund on all three jars.

You don’t instantly get symptoms…. unless he ate it right before bed and woke up with those symptoms- it’s probably something else. It takes at least 6 hours (or even a couple of days) to develop symptoms… it’s not instantaneous for salmonella. You can also suffer from many other things with those same symptoms

I am so glad my mother was here today as I pulled out a new jar of JIF from my pantry and she asked if I had checked it for the recall. I said no, I wasn’t aware. She looked it up and sure enough my bottle lot # was part of the recall. Whew! So glad she was here. 😰 Otherwise, I would have eaten half that jar.
Just checked my jar in the cupboard which I had ordered through Amazon in February. Sure enough the with Honey one is part of the recall. Fortunately I didn’t eat much of it but it sure does explain a bout I had where I felt like I had the flu for a day. Couldn’t figure out how I had caught a bug as I was isolating. Now I know.
My 2 weren’t included in the original recall but both are now. Explains why the hubby had a bad few days a couple months ago!
What do you do if you tossed your peanut butter before they announced this claims form? Can you still submit the claim without the information they are requesting?
Great question! I don’t find details on that, however you could try reaching out to them to see if they can still offer any help – 1-800-283-8915. 💖
You can find the upc from your product with an online search and the form will go thru without adding the actual lot # from the product. Many people had threw away their product and have filled out the form with that line blank and it goes thru.
