Approximately 30 states have recalled Fresh Express Bagged Salads for possible Cyclospora contamination.
The products included in this recall are salad mixes that include iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and/or carrots. They will have a product code in the upper right-hand corner containing product code “Z178” or lower and have ‘Best By’ dates through July 14th. These products are typically sold by ALDI, Giant Eagle, Hy-Vee, Jewel-Osco, ShopRite and Walmart, according to the FDA.
Select store brands are also included in this recall, such as Walmart’s Marketside and ALDI’s Little Salad Bar. Find a full list of recalled salads here.
The CDC recommends that you check your fridge for this bagged salad mix. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase – even if it has been partially eaten and no one has gotten sick. If you have a recalled salad mix, you should discard it immediately. For a refund, fill out the contact form found here.

These had Best Buy dates of July 14- its now July 27. I try to eat my salads by the date on the bag- so if I had some of those in my fridge- they are long gone by now…
Exactly! It seems like that on a lot of the food recalls.
Most salad mixes are rancid by about 3 days past the best by date…today is the 27th…you might get sicker from eating it regardless with a July 14 expiration date!! Yuck!!
And this another reason why you should never eat green food….so sayeth the meataterian. 🙂

With expiriation dates of July 13 or earlier, these would be bags of brown slime in your fridge by now, lol
Every year…… I don’t trust bagged salads anymore.
Bunches of lettuce don’t get recalled because there’s no lot/expiration. Doesn’t mean they can’t be contaminated.
The incubation period between acquisition of infection and onset of symptoms averages ~1 week (ranges from ~2–14 or more days). Some may not have gotten sick right away, I think that’s why they’re putting it out now.
