I’ve never tried dollar general brand but that what my Doctor prescribes works great.
Sam’s has their Members Mark brand for $12.98 for a 42 count. Comes out to less than 31 cents a tablet.
Yeah, I got the Sam’s one for my dad. It was a huge package and SO MUCH cheaper than even Walmart. Their famotidine (Pepcid) is very cheap too.
these commercial / ‘sponsored posts’ are :/
Iām pretty sure I have silent GERD. I used my husbands omeprazole for a week, and while it did seem to help the heartburn, it made me feel āoffā and even kind of fluish/achey. It was weird. Does anyone have any other OTC suggestions? Tums definitely doesnāt cut it.
I have a hiatal hernia. My doctor told me to alter my diet and I have. Itās worth it! I cut out acidic foods (citrus, tomatoes, etc), caffeine, and chocolate. I donāt lay down after I eat and I donāt overeat. They also said to cut out alcohol. I hope this helps! Itās hard but worth it to feel better.
Omeprazole makes me achy and causes stomach upset. Lansoprazole seems to cause slightly less side effects. Tagamet is another one I’m using, although it doesn’t work as well. Ranitidine was the best, and I’m so sad that it’s off the market.
Walmart’s own Equate brand of Ranitidine works for me — it comes in many strengths and I would try the lower dose first. I think Omeprazole is a ppi (proton pump inhibitor) and you are not supposed to take it for an extended period. The last time I bought it I could only find 150 mg on the shelf but I split them in two as the 75 mg works great for me. It is kind of hard to find it on the shelf at Walmart these days.
Famotidine (Pepcid) works for some people. I had a terrible time when my doc put me on omeprazole– had to get off it after a week because I just felt awful. The Pepcid works much better for me, along with diet changes like others have suggested.
You really should see talk to a doctor if you think you have GERD though. It can cause damage to the esophagus and lots of other health issues. A GI doctor can check your throat for damage and make sure other stuff isn’t going wrong. I had one doc say I had GERD, but it turned out to be other stomach problems. All the reflux meds in the world would not have fixed the problems without a good GI doctor to figure out the real underlying issue. Best of luck getting better!
I have used Pepcid (famotidine) for years, long before it was over the counter and it has been a life saver for everything from heartburn to allergies. And the store brands of famotidine work just as well for me and are a money-saver over the brand Pepcid. But like so many medications, they work differently for each of us. Over the years, I have tried the different heartburn meds and Pepcid (famotidine) is the only one that works for me. I hope you can find something that works for you without making you feel “off”. I know how bad that can feel!
Have your Doctor prescribe it, and you can get it for alot cheaper with insurance. We get a 30 count for $3 through the Kroger RX plan
I try to be somewhat careful about eating less food with citric acid and cinnamon. Iāve been able to get by on taking one tablet every other morning for several years now. Every great once in a while, I get ācaughtā with an acid reflux episode and I simply take a tablet then.
Can anyone recommend something similar but for children? Weāve tried pepto childrenās chewables. Thanks!
Our pediatrician prescribed 20 mg Pepcid twice a day for my 10 yr old (~70lbs). Heās had reflux since birth, and it really flared up around 10 yrs. Iāve tried giving it to him every other day or as needed, but it always causes a severe flare up. Iād check with your dr and see what they think.
Have you had your pediatrician check for Celiac?
No. The reflux would be the only possible symptom he has. heartburn problems run in the family on his dad side so itās not surprising. Definitely something to keep in mind though.
Sheās only 4 and her pediatrician gave her Pepcid but it makes her vomit š« Sheās never been good at taking any liquid meds. Weāve changed her diet completely and she still struggles with sour burps/up set stomach.
Poor thing. Thatās just miserable. I hope you find something that works.
I use some Dollar General OTCs but THIS product is not a good buy. You can buy a three pack of 14 pills of Omeprazole for under $15 at Costco. AND it regularly goes on coupon for $3 less.
Frequent heartburn is a symptom of Celiac disease. It’s important to get tested for the Full Celiac panel as untreated Celiac can be a cause of more autoimmune diseases, cancer, etc
Not a doctor and donāt have personal experience with heartburn, so just throwing these out here for further research/options in case it helps someone along in their health journey. š
