Lyft Offers Free Rides to Job Interviews & the First 3 Weeks of Work for Those in Need

Many job seekers encounter barriers to employment that hold them back from getting and keeping a job. These can include transportation, access to reliable technology, and the stigma of having a criminal record.

The popular job-search site Indeed is partnering with Lyft, Goodwill, and United Way to help remove some of these barriers for people who are struggling to find employment.

Indeed’s Essentials to Work program includes a partnership with Lyft that provides transportation to job interviews, job training programs, and your first three weeks of work.

This service is available in 20 cities across the US and includes free rideshare, bike, or scooter access to those who qualify. Additionally, select Goodwill sites now offer rides for criminal record-expungement services and/or to pick up internet hotspots donated by Indeed.

Interested job seekers can complete this form to see if they qualify. After getting connected to one of Lyft’s partner organizations, it may take about a week to hear back from them.

Along with transportation, access to the Internet and a reliable computer can be essential for finding high-quality work and career advancement opportunities. Indeed’s partnership with PCs for People aims to provide critical technology resources like computers and mobile hotspots to the job seekers who need them most.

To be eligible for this program, you must be currently participating in a government-based assistance program or have a qualifying household income (less than 200% of federal poverty guidelines or 60% of your area’s median income). PCs for People also requires photo identification and income documentation to ensure that you meet their eligibility criteria.

According to Indeed, one out of three adults in the United States has a criminal record, and the stigma of these records can complicate a job search or career advancement, even long after an individual has paid their debt to society.

Indeed is partnering with service providers across the US to provide no-cost legal assistance to clear and seal eligible criminal records.
