I LIVE IN THE HOUSTON TX AREA AND HAVE GOTTEN TO WHERE I REFUSE TO SHOP AT WALMART NOW DUE TO HOW UNFRIENDLY THEY ARE REGARDING COUPONS!! THEY ARE THE WORST!!!

    • Courtney

Really?? I live in West Houston (Richmond/Katy area) and I never have problems at the one on 99/Bellaire. I often use coupons where I have overage and haven’t had one issue.

    • Heidi

I agree they definitely have some issues at Houston Walmarts accepting coupons. There were several times that I had to have managers come over and they still didn’t know what to do half the time.

I’ve had similar BAD experiences with Walmart and their “coupon friendly” lies. I had a cashier tell me that using a coupon to get an item for free (Gain dish soap) was illegal! Too bad for them that they are losing so much business.

  3. Lynette

I just emailed Walmart with a link to these comments. They should see what people REALLY think about them. Maybe something good will come of this!

I have always had pretty good luck with coupons at WalMart here in Illinois. I was just at my there today using coupons and was told that their new policy was that they could only use 1 computer printed coupon per item, per transaction. Do they make this stuff up daily or what??

    • Sarah

Is there a coupon policy somewhere? Ours doesn’t accept them at all, much less one a day.

  5. Tina in Texas

I have used coupons many, many times with success at Walmart. Also, at several different Walmarts (Oregon, Virginia and Texas) around the country, as I have moved several times in the last 4 years. The only time I faced ‘cashier scrutiny’ was a couple months ago with the rechargable batteries free coupon (up to $12.99) because that was such a large amount – the cashier went to the manager and they spent some time examining the coupon (it had been mailed to me, and was pretty fancy looking) and then they came back and accepted it, but apologized for the delay saying they just had to make sure it was legit, whih I understand since it was high value. I am truly sorry to hear about everyone’s terrible Walmart experiences, but it’s just not the way things have gone for me, so far.

I was yelled at by my cashier for having too many coupons. Apparently it was too much for her to scan them and also enter in an amount for one of my free items. Also I had a $2/2 coupon and she told me I only bought 1. I had to dig through my bags to find both items I bought to show her.

I have had similar experiences with having to pick the items out of my bag for proof. And also them trying to tell me i needed to wait in the longest lines to use coupons as others did not appreciate it. I always try to stand back if someone only has a few items but its my right to shop too!

  7. couponsangie

BOOOOO to Walmart..ours is also NOT coupon friendly here in Kokomo, Indiana!

  8. Felicia

I used to grocery shop at super wal-mart a lot. Now since couponining (and trying on many occasions to coupon there) I rarely shop there. This is Upstate NY. I go there once every few weeks. I purchase a few items, use maybe 2 coupons and that’s it. Most of my business goes elsewhere.

I was publicly humiliated @ walmart for trying to use a coupon I printed off my computer. It was a coupon for some cheese. Literally 3 employees came to my register, a CSM, a manager, and not sure of the other. I was told printed coupons MUST BE PRINTED IN COLOR, to be accepted. I actually had the coupon policy i printed off the walmart website, but that didnt seem to matter. It was horrible hearing them talk about me amongst themselves discussing my printed coupon. I get approx $40 a month in food stamps right now so coupons help me stretch that. I had to embarrass myself explaining that to them, & one of them literally rolled her eyes. I used to go out of my way to shop only at Walmart, now I dont, nor do any of my relatives shop there.

Poor old Walmart just can’t get it right can they. I am sitting on a boring conference call and am reading all the comments. (umm yeah sad huh? lol) I have sworn off Walmart for most of the reasons written in all these comments. I even had a manager bribe me with a $10 gift card after calling into corporate for the whole coupon experience and I decided that even though it was 10 bucks I was not interested. I wanted them to understand how frustrated I really was. I ended up talking to a muckety muck at corporate with a long title because they just could not believe that I did not want the $10 GC as a sorry. I just kept saying…no amount of money will get me back in the door. The final guy I talked to said he was going to make it a personal mission to make all of Walmart more coupon friendly. PAH LEASE! lol!!!!

I have read through most of the comments and have to agree. I have not shopped very much at WalMart because I can get so much more at Publix or BiLo for my coupons. However, I was in Walmart the other day waiting for my grandson to finish at an afterschool party close by and I was walking around looking at their prices. For most of their items they are higher than other stores I think. Anyway, I did purchase a couple of items and when I gave the cashier my coupons she jumped back and called the CSM over. You would have thought that I had put a snake on the register the way she was acting. When the CSM got there the cashier said that I had too many coupons for the number of items I had. I told her there were actually three items that I did not have coupons for. The CSM told the cashier to scan the coupons and that they would only take whatever scanned. Then the CSM ended up doing it. I had four mentoes coupons 2 scanned and 2 did not. Anyway I finished paying and the cashier then proceeded to tell me that WalMart does not take internet coupons as they are “copied” and are not real. Yes, I have reported this to their corporate office and I have not heard anything yet. BUT, I will never ever shop at WalMart again. This was in Chattanooga, TN

Same here (Cleveland, Tn), I strongly dislike Walmart

I agree, so many times I have had to go through my bags to prove I was not trying to use more coupons than items I had bought. There have been time though that it went very smoothly, it really does depend on the cashier, the older women seem to think coupons are like stealing, we have had a lot of luck with younger male cashiers. Either way I prefer to shop other places unless the price will be lower at Walmart. Another store I have had trouble with is Winco, they will not accept any coupon that doesn’t scan, making it hard sometimes to use printed coupons with new ink, or if ur ink is running low. One problem is that there are some couponers out there that are intentionally scamming stores, they are the reason many are changing the way things are done (ie Rite Aid, Walmart, Winco, Target), I wish saving money was enough, some people just aren’t happy unless the company is paying them, shame 🙁

I, too have had bad experiences at Wal-Mart. As others have said, I rarely shop there any more because I can get better deals elsewhere. I have experienced the “cashier scrutiny” personally and have gotten rather upset when they try to accuse me of trying to use q’s for items that I did not purchase. I always have to dig the items out of the bag and show them. The best coupon friendly store that I have ever been in is Harris Teeter. They are very customer friendly and will do whatever it takes to make you happy. Too bad, we not longer have one in our town. I work out of town and frequent one that I pass going to and from work.

So for these coupons can anyone grab them?

  15. nurseegirl

Our WalMart in TriCity has all the signs up but they lie! For the past several months, they have progressively gotten more unfriendly with coupon users. The cashiers roll their eyes and with every coupon ask if I “really” purchased the item, sometimes making me dig the item out AND showing them on the reciept they print out. The last time I shopped there, I had the FIve dollar off Five Kraft cheese coupon. They cashier kept arguing with me and finally I asked for a manager. The cashier had dropped the coupon to two dollars. The manager came over, I explained and she took the five dollars off. The lady in line then told the manager about the rudeness and eyerolling. She sent the cashier over to customer service and finished checking me out. I left and have not shopped in the walmart since. I hope the manager makes good and really does give the cashiers the inservice on customer service and corporate coupon policy. We’ll see, I plan to coupon shop there in the am!

My Wal mart has always been great with coupons. Sometimes the cashiers have their special ways of doing things, but I’ve always gotten overage, and you don’t have to feel bad about buying 10 of something when there’s 100 on the shelf unlike at the drugstores where buying two of something can clear a shelf! And, every coupon I have ever given them has SCANNED which is the important thing. Target is the one I have issues with. I have gotten so much grief from them, I avoid shopping there unless there is an AMAZING deal.

I LOVE that first picture! YAY for Wal-Mart! Saw it, and thought…”Shouldn’t it be like that in every store?” Where those of us can leave coupons for items that we won’t use/don’t need….for someone who will….

    Then the comments…

I admit that I was very hesitant at using coupons at my local Super Wal-Mart, from previous posts before this one.

I finally tried, with just a few, about a month ago. No problem. Second time, just a few also…no problem. Not to say that I might not encounter problems in the future, but for now Wal-Mart is OK coupon-wise for me.

My problem is with Walgreens. About 4 months ago, I went in there with about 5 coupons, and held up the line, as the Cashier called for a Mgr., and the Mgr. after scrutinizing every single internet coupon I had, declared that I couldn’t use any of them. Never mind embarassing, but the big line that was now behind me, could be heard groaning….

Have I been back in Walgreens? After spending almost $300 there last year, sans coupons….heck no.

Wally World, Walgreens, and the rest need to train/educate their Cashiers better, in order to keep their customers, in my opinion. As I’ve told my children often…”I vote with my dollar”.

I give big kudos to my local CVS & Smith’s. I have never had a problem with them taking my coupons. And they are right across the street from Walgreens AND Wal-Mart. As for Wal-Mart Prescription service, at least where I live…pppfffft. Just this past month I transferred 2 scripts, and got filled 4 new ones at CVS; but that’s a whole different issue…

I used to do almost all of my shopping at our local Wal-Mart in KY, until I started couponing. I couldn’t believe how rude the cashiers and csm’s could be! They actually make you feel like you are a criminal if you use coupons, and most cashiers don’t even know the policies. They will not accept a coupon if the coupon value is more than the product price and will not adjust your coupon amount down. They definately will not allow for overages. And just refuse to scan some coupons even though I had used them in the past. Whatever their policy, it’s never seems to be the same. Your results varied depending on which cashier you chose. So, I am shopping Kroger for my groceries and Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS for most other items. So, a big BOOOO!!! to walmart!
