Ikea sells a similar one (that I love) for everyday price of $3.99. This one, albeit a little nicer, seems a lot more expensive for what you’re really getting.

I love my IKEA spinner! For $4 it’s holding up pretty darn well! 🙂

Ikea stuff holds up surprisingly well. I have a lot of there kitchen things and have had them for a few years and they are like new.

Agreed, I love my dirt-cheap Ikea salad spinner. It’s survived my DD spinning various toys in it also.

Can someone explain the reason/need to get a salad spinner? It seems silly to me but maybe I just don’t get it.

I didn’t understand it either until I used one, and then I totally got it. You can wash lettuce days in advance without it getting all soggy and gross because it gets all the water off. They are handy but, I’d get the ikea one over the $20 one.

Also if you put too much dressing on ( if you pour on a whole salad like Olive Garden does) you can spin the excess and rescue the salad

Can someone explain why there is a whole apple in the salad spinner? 😉

I also have the Ikea salad spinner and love it! They are great for getting water out of lettuce after washing. I also use it for a slew of other things.. washing herbs, cleaning leeks, deseeding tomatoes, even wringing water out of delicates like bras and bathingsuits!

I didn’t really know the purpose either, so I googled it. From Wikipedia:

A salad spinner, also known as a “salad tosser”, is a kitchen tool used to wash and remove excess water from salad greens. It uses centrifugal force to separate the water from the leaves. This is necessary in order to keep the greens from going limp and enable salad dressing and oil to stick to the leaves.

Keeps lettuce fresh for days, cover with water and a paper towel, drain- fresh lettuce for up to 5/6 days
