*PLUS – check out how Hip2Save reader Rosaura’s husband turned a similar bookshelf into a portable hanging wardrobe (image on right). Love it! 🙂
this is very reasonable! A good idea would be to turn this on its side and hang some hooks in each panel- to make 4 cubbies/ lockers for your kids bookbags and coats!
Love this idea! 😀
Omg that’s an awesome idea!
You would have to make sure you secure to repositionable shelves somehow.
We have this, only the 5 shelf pne in our office. We were really impressed for the price. 🙂 It IS a pain to put together though.
I bought one of these for my daughters room and the living room. After a few weeks of being filled with books, it sways from side to side. Very flimsy, save your money! We are on the lookout for something of better quality for a decent price if anyone has any ideas!
we had this problem, too. with some L-brackets we braced it to the studs at the top of the bookcase. much sturdier this way, and the L-brackets were way cheaper than getting an expensive bookcase!!
We have purchased a Wal-Mart shelf just like this in the past and the quality was very poor. Even at this price, I would be very hesitant to purchase. When we moved from our apartment, the shelf fell apart so we couldn’t take it with us. Also, the structure was wobbly and made me nervous when my children went by it. I’m not sure if they’ve “upped” the quality since then, but I would do some research before purchasing.
I have 2 of these in an office and they have held fine and it’s been almost a year. I have books on them, printer, bookshelf radio, pictures, candles, etc. and they’re solid and not swaying or loose at all.
I have this in my daughters room. It has her american girl stuff on it, the bottom has the doll table and chairs, middle has her bed, first shelf her accessories, and on top i have a fish tank 3 gallon, and the dolls armoire. Its been pretty sturdy for me. Have had it for at least a year, maybe two.
Here’s another idea to make use of these inexpensive bookshelves – assemble, turn them on their backs, add casters, and voila! Under bed storage drawers!
Great idea! 🙂
Wow, these are clever and very useful ideas. It sparks my brain to think outside the box. Thanks for sharing and H2S community rocks!
<3 😀
My hubby found something online and made it into top shelf for my toddlers clothes to be hanged and bottom for newborns clothes to be hanged. I used the bottom two areas left for blankets socks and pampers wipes storage its been 2 years still up looking good.
That doesn’t look like the same bookshelf at all. The other looks thicker.
True
Yeap. I noticed that too. Especially the top part.
It’s a similar bookcase! Sorry for any confusion!
I been looking for one to turn into a cubie shelf the ones to use like drawers for my daughter’s toys this is perfect
This is made of particle board. I bought one and the edges were peeling immediately.
thanks for the tips!
That is so cute!! Some great ideas here! I just purchased the Ameriwood 3 shelf bookcase (under $20) from Walmart about a week ago, I needed some extra toy storage and to dress it up a little, I found some fabric (on sale! 😁) at Hobby Lobby that coordinated with the forest theme of my sons room and my husband cut it to size and used some 3M all purpose adhesive spray to stick it to the back panel and then let it dry over night before building the bookcase. Then I displayed some toys on there. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would, I was really happy with how it turned out!
I bought a few of these bookcases last year, they have held up pretty well. Our house even flooded a little while after we got them. I had 6 inches of water all throughout my house and the bottom of these bookshelves held up and still look good after that. As far as the swaying goes we purchased some cheap L brackets and fastened the bookshelves to the wall. I use mine for canned good storage in my pantry, after a while the shelves started to sag in the middle from the weight of the cans. My husband solved that problem with some scrap lumber around the house by making a brace that holds up the sagging shelves. That worked beautifully. Over all I would purchase these shelves again, just make sure to follow the directions carefully. If you don’t you will end up with a wiggly bookshelf, I found that out the hard way, luckily my hubby is awesome and was able to fix it and also threw in a few extra shelves for more storage. Too bad I don’t need anymore because this is an awesome deal.
