Is an Amazon Prime Membership worth the annual investment?

For me, the answer is a definite YES! I use Amazon regularly (sometimes daily!) and so I absolutely love the unlimited FREE 2-day shipping for Prime members – no minimum order size required! If you are planning to do the bulk of your holiday shopping online, this benefit is one that you will love as well!

If you’re not interested in signing up for an annual Prime membership, you can still go here and sign up for a FREE 30-day trial to test it out – perfect to use during the holiday season!

I’m not getting my hopes up after the last rumored deal was a no-go.

    • Erin

Lol same here. And what exactly would qualify as new?

  2. Melissa Graham

Do you think the 30 day free trial will be tacked on as well?

  3. Rachel

Could you give as a gift?

    • Julie Phillips

That’s what I’m wondering, too. There was one year where I was able to gift it to myself after my subscription ended. It was awesome! πŸ˜‰

New Prime members might also be able to get $25 amazon gift card for signing up when you go through TopCashBack. I say might because it does say: “$25 Amazon Gift Card When You Sign Up For Amazon Prime For $99*” so might only be if you purchase for $99, but worth a shot.

Amazon has changed their policies in 2016… No free returns and No Price Match even if they reduce the price themselves. I bought a book shelf for 70 and they reduced the price to 52 even before it was shipped but they refused to price match… They said I would have to pay shipping for return as well.

As of today, I would prefer Target than Amazon now… Definitely not renewing after my current membership expires.

    • Liz

I have a prime account and i have never been charged for returns…i just returned a thermometer i bought last week..Yes price matching has ended.

      • Emily

They have always taken my return shipping cost out of my refund.

      • K

Not everything has free returns. You don’t know for sure until you try to return it in your account.

    • Keri B

We have always paid for returning items to Amazon, even with Prime. Never heard of this being a benefit

      • Denise

Wow I have returned several items and Amazon has always paid to have it returned…weird

    • Aliza

The customer service folks at Amazon usually bend over backwards to do what a customer wants. I have had them waive the return fee and price match when I chat or email customer service.

    • staci

I feel like the customer service people USED to bend over backwards for customers. The last few times I have had a concern the answer has been no and they wouldn’t work with me at all. I think I bought the sake book shelf as Dev. It dropped more than $25 for and they would do nothing about it. They knew that it would cost me $35 to return it so I wouldn’t return it for the better price. I was disappointed because they used to be so easy to work with.

I have prime and I think I’ve paid for a return one time ever with Amazon. In fact I just returned a bunch of clothes 2 weeks ago and didn’t have to pay for the returns. I think it depends what you’re buying but most items shipped and sold by amazon have free returns I’ve noticed.

  6. Cindy C

I cancelled a couple months ago. Would I qualify as a “new” membership?

  7. Teri

Mine just ended and Debating whether to renew….

  8. Denise

Amazon prime is soo worth it! We use it all the time..nothing beats home delivery

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the feedback Denise! Glad to hear you are enjoying your membership! πŸ˜‰

  9. Crystal

Still too expensive for me. Don’t order enough to justify the price.

    • Happymamma

      Same here.

  10. Cindy

If someone buys this and then gifts it to themselves (so you can use it to renew your membership when it expires), please let us know if it works. Thanks.

  11. DonnaDB

We just got Amazon Prime full price and I totally believe it’s worth it. You not only get free 2 day shipping, but they have a wonderful streaming catalog. I LOVE AMAZON! !!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet! Thanks for sharing!

  12. dani

If my membership cancelled in September and I have not renewed as of yet, would I be considered a “new customer” or should I register my husband for the deal since he has never signed up for amazon prime? Whatcha think?

  13. leah

For those who bought Amazon and the price dropped….if you bought it with a credit card, you’re CC may have price protection. My Discover has 90 price protection and I’ve used it on Amazon purchases. It’s worth checking with your card.

    • Tami

I have discover and purchased a meat grinder for 415 and it dropped to 375….would I have to contact discover and how does that work?

      • DIY Deals

Contact Discover and perhaps share with us the how-tos. The details must be online for your account.

  14. Onesellingmomma

Oh, I hope it is! Last time they had this, I called and got a year tacked onto my membership at the $79 rate. My year is up 12/6, and they keep saying my cc is expired that I need to update it. Holding off until tomorrow and will do it through Discover as Leah mentioned above πŸ™‚

As for returns–depends on what you are buying. I just returned a gift (it was an art set) and it got a larger credit than I think they paid for it. This time I didn’t get charged a return fee πŸ™‚

    • K

My cc that I used to get prime last time was expired but when my membership came due in September, they took another cc I had linked to my account (but not linked to how I paid for prime). I think it’s in their policy that they will take another form of payment from your account if your cc is not up to date. Just be wary of this.

Had Amazon for years, love it.
I always check Amazon first before buying items at the stores, many times Amazon was cheaper.
Besides shipping they also have Prime music and movies. Also deals for prime members

  16. MomoBear

I am currently in the trial period and when trying to purchase the annual membership, it still gives the $99 price. I have some products on order so don’t think ending my trial and re-registering is a good idea. Is this deal happening?
