domestic airlines lawsuit settlement – a plane flying into the sunset

Flown over the past few years? ✈️

You may qualify for a domestic airlines lawsuit settlement payment if you bought a domestic airline ticket on American, Delta, Southwest, United, Continental, or US Airways between July 1st, 2011 and June 14th, 2018.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against these commercial air passenger carriers and claims that they, along with US Airways and Continental Airlines, conspired to increase fares by limiting capacity on domestic flights.

Southwest has already agreed to pay $15 million. American has agreed to pay $45 million to settle this nationwide litigation. It’s still unknown how much each eligible Settlement Class Member will receive at this time.

This morning I’m not seeing a button to click to take me to the 2nd or next page of deals. I’m using a computer. Is it just me?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh bummer! What browser and type of computer are you using? We are still finding that option available for us.

      • NN

Hi Amber, I’m using Chrome. And yes, I’m referring to the H2S website 🙂 Thanks to those of you who responded. When I posted about the issue, it showed page 1 of 1 and wouldn’t show any more pages or give me an option to click. But I checked again now and the issue seems to have resolved itself thankfully.

        • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

OH GOOD! Thanks a bunch for the update!

          • N

App does not work on Android, list shows up but keeps loading for images and then when I click into individual post, it blank. I have commented and sent emails about this too but haven’t heard back, please advise.

            • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh bummer! I had that issue this morning on my Android too, however when I deleted and reinstalled, all worked MUCH better for me! Let us know if that does not help!

            • N

Uninstalling and installing works, Thank you!

            • charlyt37@gmail.com

Used to have issue until I Uninstalled and reinstalled my app. Works fine now😀

    • riss

I registered without any hitch using my phone.

    • Heather

No, I’m not seeing issues with this page in Chrome. (I think NN is referring to the H2S page, not the settlement page.)

  2. Suzanne

It worked for me. I clicked on the “register here” link.

If I am understanding things correctly, one does not need to do anything to be included in the class action settlements if they bought tickets. Only if they do not want to be part of the settlements and want to sue on their own. The registration is to be kept in the loop.

    • Heather

No, I’m pretty sure that you have to sign up to get the settlement award, if there is any. That’s how it’s worked for ever other class action lawsuit I’ve been a part of, anyway.

    • je

That is my understanding as well. The home page states, ” If you do nothing, you will participate in the Settlements and will not be able to sue Southwest or American for the conduct that is the subject of this lawsuit.”

The registration form is simply to keep you updated. It states, “Note: Submitting your contact information on this page does not guarantee your eligibility as a Class Member or for future payment in these Settlements.”

      • lenin1991

That only means your rights will be settled along with the affected class — but with no compensation. That’s how all class action lawsuits work: you either sign on to a small benefit, you explicitly exclude yourself from the class to pursue separate action, or you do nothing and are included in the class by default.

        • Fred

Yes, that is how it works, and that is a major injustice. The torts are done that way so that the guilty party, in one sweep, can wash its hands of as many potential plaintiffs as possible.

The administrator, Rust Consulting, picks random names off mailing lists. That is how they fabricate a list of class members. They are dishonest to the core.

The only right way to do this is to announce the tort on the internet and allow those who are interested to opt in if they choose to do so.

I have informed Rust Consulting that it is in their best interest to back off, and never include me in any future lawsuits.

The last time I was included on a class action settlement, I received a check for $22. I deposited it the next day and it bounced. Somebody drained that account real quick. Don’t expect money even if the lawyer wins.

    • I

Hmmm that hasn’t been my experience. I’ve always been able to get the money. Worth a shot if you’re eligible!

  5. Patricia

I have never had a check bounce. Wow. I buy a ticket every year in November from Delta so I am going to check into this.

  6. Sarah

Iv done lots of these and received 4-5 checks over $125 n about 15 under $20… so it’s deff worth a shot 🙂

Found more useful info in the FAQs:

In order to receive a payment, you will need to file a valid claim form before the claims period ends. THE CLAIMS PERIOD HAS NOT YET BEGUN. A notice about the claims process, including the beginning and end of the claim period, will be made at a later date as ordered by the Court. If you want to receive a notice about the claims process or future settlements, you should submit your contact information on the Registration Form of this website.

  8. Cindy

So is there a form to fill out. I don’t see one?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi Cindy! You can register through the link in the bottom of the post! Hope that helps!

  9. IB

Usually the only winner with these lawsuits is the lawyers.

But will give it a shot…thanks.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

  10. MBro

My luck…went to Charlotte 6/15/18 on Southwest

  11. Fred

This will not benefit anyone buy the lawyer, Adam Z, and Rust Consulting. I was included, and I did not even live in the USA during the period. I could never have bought any domestic airline tickets.

Rust Consulting is a dishonest company. They have my name on a mailing list. They just pick names off the list and list them as class members. That way they can get a good cut of the settlement money, without expending many resources.

  12. Fred

I lived overseas the entire time cited in the notice. I asked Rust Consulting what flight qualified me to be a class member. They said they have no such information. I have since asked what airline gave them my name. They have no answer. Rust Consulting is a fraud.

  13. Phred

You do realize that 60 million is nothing? Southwest alone carries about 130 million domestic passengers a year. American carries over 600 million domestic passengers a year. The lawsuit covers a span of 7 years. Many customers are repeat fliers, so I am estimating that around 200 million people will share the “pot”. The lawyers and administrators will get more than 20 million. What is 40 million divided by 200 million? It will cost more than your 20 cent cut to print a check, and mail it. You will get nothing.
