Create Kid’s Activity Bags Using Free Dentist Goody Bags, School Papers, & More
Hip2Save reader, April, sent in this clever idea for making activity bags for her kiddo by re-purposing dentist goody bags, paint swatches, school papers, and other mail freebies!
“My five year old LOVES it when I make busy bags for long trips. We get these cute bags every single time we go to the dentist to get our teeth cleaned, and I wanted to find a way to use them.
With this particular bag, I cut construction paper he’d brought home from school into a car shape, wrote on numbers, and he had to add stickers to match the numbers.
The color book is simply paint swatches that I hole punched and connected with old jewelry chain. He had to carefully look at the colors on his stickers to match the paint swatch. Sometimes we trade sticker sheets back and forth to look for colors together. I also added a few cute free printables for him to color and just a plain mini notebook for him to do whatever with.
I try to only use things I already have at home or can get for free. These bags are a great way to use up those Disney Movie Club stickers you get in the mail! Sometimes I throw a bag together quickly and sometimes I try to make them have a theme (superheroes, Halloween, etc). It’s really fun for him and it keeps him busy without technology!”
How fun is that!?

So cute! Thanks for sharing!
We also do this with the makeup bags from my Ipsy subscription and throw in the free stickers that come with highlights mag ads, crayons, lacing cards, play dough, miniature puzzles, wiki sticks and holiday crafts or small toys that I️ pick up for 90% off at Target! I️ like to throw one in the diaper bag, my purse and each car!
I do this too! I put ours in a first aid bag I got for free from Target. Always buy craft items and small toys from dollar spot when they go 70-90 % off. Thank you for the extra ideas, it probably wouldn’t be bad to make few extra bags and keep them in the car etc since I’m often in a rush and forget them sometimes.
Wow! Our dentist gives cheap bags like you would get at walmart but smaller.
I’m jealous!
This is such a good idea!!!
