I purchased this code reader by looking at a number of reviews and ratings. It’s a pretty basic model but shows all the engine-related codes without any issues. It’s a very useful tool to have around for a home mechanic. I was able to diagnose both my older Subaru and my wife’s newer Subaru issues with this device. Saved a lot of guessing work and money.
It does all the basic functions and will work on almost any vehicle built since the 1996 model year. Saves time and headaches if your Check Engine light (CEL) comes on. Will tell you in most cases exactly what is wrong. You shouldn’t keep it in a toolbox. You should keep it in your car. It can also do some other checks with your car’s computer, even if your CEL isn’t on. With today’s cars, you really should have one around.
What code made the engine light come on? Should I keep driving? This tester will answer some questions. Easy to use, good price, cheaper than paying a diagnostic fee on average of $150.00. This will not solve all problems but a loose fuel cap will make an engine light come on! Happy so far.
For something I can keep in my toolbox (small enough really to just keep in a glovebox), this is a decent reader, especially for the price I paid ~$20. Returns not only codes and freeze frame info but also a decent amount of live feed. Also can read Transmission codes, a big plus over my old reader.
For my occasional ODB II reader need, well worth it. I’ve thought of getting another couple so I could just keep one in each of our cars just in case the old check engine light pops on to get a quick diagnosis. Not often, but the last time I had one I was 50 miles from nowhere and there wasn’t much in nowhere. Nice to know if it is a keep driving or “STOP” issue.
