Designed with guidance from autistic self-advocates at ASAN, the new Autistic Barbie celebrates individuality, accessibility, and representation, highlighting experiences some individuals on the autism spectrum may relate to.
This doll includes details like articulated arms for stimming, a side gaze, sensory-friendly clothing, a spinning fidget toy, noise-canceling headphones, and a tablet with AAC symbols to support communication.
Love this so much, thanks for sharing! Diverse representation is invaluable for us all!
You’re very welcome, Sarah! 🥰
I have an autistic child and to me this Barbie is offensive. My child is so much more than a fidget spinner, tablet and headphones.
Same!
Agreed. As someone who is autistic as a child and now a grown adult. I have always hated these stereotypes masked as representation to make a buck. Discredits all the hard work I have done to be deemed normal and thriving.
I’m glad I’m not the only parent of an autistic child who doesn’t feel this represents my child at all!
Am I offended by it, no! But my none of my kids would see this doll and think of themselves.
Do I get SOME autistic kids use fidget toys and noise canceling headphones, yes, but there’s so much more.
