Banana Clips Are Back (& Here is Where We Spotted Them!)
Tik Tok has spoken, and its latest declaration is that banana clips are now back in style. Once again, social media is reviving an iconic vintage trend for a whole new generation!
In case you missed it the first time around, the banana clip was a double-sided plastic hair comb with a hinge at the bottom, a clip at the top, and teeth in the middle to hold your 80’s-era perm in a fauxhawk-shaped ponytail.
This popular hair accessory was curved to fit the shape of your head, earning its name from the banana-like shape of the clip. 🍌
Now that banana clips are back in style, you can expect to start seeing them anywhere hair accessories are sold very soon. While it might take a minute for some retailers to notice this trend and get banana clips into their stores, here are four retailers where you can purchase one today and be among the first to adopt this trendy hairstyle during its 21st-century revival!
Amazon
As you would expect, Amazon has a ton of banana clips to choose from, no matter which type of hair texture you have. Curly or straight, thick or fine, the perfect banana clip for your hair type awaits you on Amazon!
Etsy
If you want to go beyond the plastic, mass-produced banana clips found at the larger retailers and support a small business owner, then Etsy is a great place to shop for banana clips.
Whether you’re looking for something matte and earth-toned to blend in with the color of your hair, or something bejeweled to really elevate your hairstyle for a night out, Etsy has so many fun options to choose from!
Walmart
At Walmart, you’ll find banana clips from familiar brands like Goody, Scunci, Conair, and more. Shop online or look for them with the other hair accessories on your next visit inside the store!
Dollar Tree
That’s right – Dollar Tree! This retailer was way out ahead of the banana clip trend back in 2020, when we spotted them there for just a buck.
If your Dollar Tree is one of the locations that recently increased its prices to $1.25 then you might pay a little more for your banana clips, but that’s still a pretty great deal for a 4-pack or 6-pack!
Banana clips are back? Seriously? Like, gag me with a spoon! ๐คฃ
LOL Like, tubular! ๐
Iโm of the age where Iโm realizing that most all trends come & go, so Iโve just decided to do what I want ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ๐
LOL! I love it. Glad they are back. Isn’t it kinda like a messy bun?
For some people, but when we wore them in the 80’s, you’d curl your hair before using the banana clip so that it poofed nicely. Not as easy as a messy bun.
Yes! I wore them in the 80’s and absolutely loved them! They were perfect for me as I always set my hair in hot rollers as part of my regular routine in the morning for work, and in the evenings when we’d go to the nightclubs. (Ahhhh…nice memories ๐๐ป๐บ๐ป๐)
Iโm so excited for this trend to come back. Thanks for the post
You’re welcome, Sara!
Most things come back in style at some point.
I never stopped liking the banana clip! And itโs so easyโฆI think it looks cute.
Guess I had no idea they even went out , but glad there back ๐
Iโve been buying these for years from dollar tree. Theyโre pretty good. I have thick curly hair so itโs a great alternative to hair ties ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Oh cool! Thanks for commenting! Good to know these have worked well for your hair!
I actually wore my hair in a banana clip for my prom in 1990, and I still have a couple! My hair is naturally curly hair but it’s very thin so it gets weighed down and hangs straight with only the curls at the end. These are great because they spread the hair out which takes the weight off and allows it to curl stack up all over. I still use the banana clip sometimes while letting my hair dry to get good curls for a pony tail. I always hated the clip showing at the top though and wore a big gauzy bow over it, somehow doubt those are coming back in style, especially for a 50 year old!!
Aww, thanks for sharing how you’ve worn them! ๐
