9 best walking shoes for women (and men too):
1. HOKA walking shoes are podiatrist recommended and suitable for many scenarios.
Women’s HOKA Clifton 8 Shoes or Men’s HOKA Clifton 8 Shoes – $111.99 – $140
The Hip2Save community has spoken! When it came to the best walking shoes, HOKA was a clear winner and those who wear them couldn’t say enough great things. One of our readers, Annette, walks 2-3 miles a day and HOKA was her top recommendation for shoes. Hip2Save’s Cam also raved about HOKA and how the shoes come in all kinds of inclusive styles to fit different aesthetics, genders, skill levels, and preferred terrains. They are even made from sustainable materials!
HOKA walking shoes are some of the very best according to podiatrists. Several of their shoe models, including the HOKA Clifton 8, have received The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Seal of Acceptance. If you’re impressed by these recommendations, use HOKA’s shoe finder to see which shoe might best fit your needs. The Bondi, Arahi, and Clifton are all considered orthopedic, and the Bondi was recently named as the best walking shoes by Dr. Miguel Cunha of Gotham Footcare.
“HOKA’s have been so helpful for my foot pain and are like walking on a CLOUD! I have tried so many brands from Nike to Saucony to Adidas. None can compare IMO! If you are on your feet all day these are it. They are recommended by podiatrists and are worth the investment. My husband now wears them too. He actually went to a local runner’s shop (Runner’s Den) and stood on a machine that tells you where you put your weight on your feet and ended up with the same pair as me and loves them. Highly recommend! My back and feet feel so much better when wearing these.❤️” – Lina, Hip2Save team
“HOKA Clifton 8!!! I always got side shin pain walking for exercise and since the day I bought them and put them on, haven’t felt shin pain even once! And that’s with 3 miles of daily walking. I love them!” – Kara, Hip2Save reader
2. Want a consistently top-rated brand? Look no further than Brooks walking shoes.
Brooks Women’s Ghost 14 or Men’s Ghost 14 – $99.95 (regularly $140)

I’ve worn these shoes for years and I highly recommend the Ghost and the Brooks brand, in general. I’m an avid hiker so I usually train in them by walking on my treadmill at a steep incline. However, they are great for the road or track too!
I’m not the only one who loves them. A ton of readers wrote in to give the Brooks brand praise. Hip2Save reader, Heather, says they are her favorite of all time and reader, Kelli, likes them because they’re great for hip pain. The most commonly mentioned models were Adrenaline, Ghost, and Glycerine. If you’re wondering which Brooks shoe might fit you best, try this online quiz that assesses your needs. Don’t forget to check out our list of the best running shoes!
Under armour should be on this list.. those an OC are my go to shoes for everything
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Becky! I’ll be sure to pass along your feedback to the team. Glad to hear you Under Armour is a favorite of yours! ππ
I own a few pairs of Adidas NMDβs and let me tell you,Iβm 50yrs old and never owned the best walking/running shoe until now,I own 4 pairs of NMDβs.
So happy that you’ve found a brand and style of shoes that are comfortable for you! Thanks so much for letting us know about the Adidas ones you own. π
I highly recommend going to a specialty store, that specifically fits shoes for your feet. I did that a couple of years ago and it was well worth it. You walk on a mat that can see how your feet move, it measures your arches and if you roll over or turn inside or outside. And then they can recommend shoes based on that. Everyone is different, I donβt think one shoe or brand fits all. Just my two cents π
How neat! Thanks for sharing how you found the perfect shoe for your feet! ππ
I previously recommended buying Hoka sneakers on Hokas site because they have wide widths (I own 3 pr Cliftons). Hokas are on the wide size on purpose. Most sneaker toe boxes are too narrow,
and your toes need a wide toe box especially if running. So if your feet are wide, their sale has plenty of wide widths unlike REI and other sites.
Thanks, Lucy! We sure appreciate the helpful recommendation! Good to know they have wide options available! β€οΈβ€οΈ
I have flat feet and Saucony guide 14, recommended by podiatrist, fits me well. Although my feet are still a little sore after long walk (more than 10,000 steps), it is much better than before.
Happy that the Saucony Guide 14 shoes have fit so well! π Thanks for commenting!
