Before you plan your stay, check out these must-read tips & tricks from our team:
- Check Groupon first: A Groupon deal once helped me plan an unforgettable, budget-friendly birthday trip that became a yearly tradition.
- Arrive in swimwear: Water park access starts at 1 PM (or earlier by location), even though check-in is at 4 PM. You can also stay until the park closes on checkout day.
- Towels and Coast Guard-approved life jackets are provided: Just bring cover-ups; towels must stay in designated areas.
- Book activity & dining passes in advance: Buy passes online ahead of time to save 30%+. Bundle for discounts on games, candy, ice cream, and more.
- Bring your own food & drinks: Rooms have mini-fridges (some with microwaves). Bring snacks and meals to avoid pricey resort food. Coolers are allowed, just not in the water park.
- Look for local Groupon dining deals: Save money by dining off-resort with local Groupon restaurant offers.
- Use coupons: Check online or print coupons for discounts on the gift shop, activities, and spa services.
- Military & First Responders save more: Get 25% off with a valid ID using promo code HEROESA through the Howling Heroes program. ID must be shown at check-in.
- Visit during off-peak hours: Lines are shorter in the early morning and late evening. Even at 85% capacity, it rarely feels too crowded.
- Wristbands = keys + wallets: Wristbands function as room keys and charge cards. Kids can get non-payment bands for safety.
- Food Allergies? No Problem: The resort chef will work with you to provide safe, custom meals for allergy needs.
Wondering if the water park is suitable for your non-swimmer?
There’s a dedicated play area for infants and younger kids where parents are encouraged to join in the fun. The indoor wave pool has three settings: calm, medium, and high. Puddle jumpers helped, but it was still a bit much for Chelsey’s three- and five-year-olds to navigate on their own. The outdoor pool, on the other hand, is great for swimmers of all ages, letting everyone splash and play at their own pace.
One of Hip Sidekick Chelsey’s favorite spots at Great Wolf Lodge in AZ is the River Canyon Run. It’s a ride the whole family can enjoy together! On their first visit, her youngest, just over a year old, was able to sit in the intertube with them (no lap sitting allowed) and experience the slide’s gentle bends, curves, and bright rainbow colors – a huge, fun adventure for all five family members.
Hip Tip: On checkout day, if you plan on staying at the water park until it closes, be sure to be out of your room by 11 AM and store your luggage at the front desk or in your car. Pack a smaller bag with a change of clothes that you can take into the water park and store inside their lockers (available for rent). You can also use their showers and dryers inside the water park.
And don’t miss out on the freebies…

- FREE wolf ears: Ask at the gift shop for complimentary wolf ear headbands – a fun souvenir for the whole family!
- FREE onsite activities: Participate in dance parties, storytime, crafts, and more. Board games are also available at the front desk.
- Shutterfly freebie: Check your room for a Shutterfly promo card offering a free photo book of your trip.

Our sidekick Chelsey and her family absolutely love their yearly Great Wolf trips (3 years & counting)…
I’m a Disney fanatic myself, so with countless core childhood memories at Disneyland, I feel like I’m almost an expert on magical experiences 😉 . Thus, I can confidently say the Great Wolf Lodge gives families a truly MAGICAL experience, on a smaller, more budget-friendly, and yet unforgettable scale!
Our most recent trip was the best one yet! It started with incredible staff members who were more than efficient and helpful with one of our issues and ended with countless hours of fun (I think my kids are still catching up on sleep! LOL). Although we never tire of the waterpark itself, we’ll never go back without grabbing the kids’ passes! The MagiQuest kept them entertained & in awe for hours, plus even with just 1 wand, all 3 of my kiddos were able to share and join in on the magic!
IDK how the Great Wolf Lodge does it, but somehow even for a small hotel room, the layout was ideal for a little parent and kid relaxation (and separation 😆). The kids had their own ‘room’ including a TV, but best of all, the ‘bunk bed suite’ included THREE beds- one for each of my kiddos!
I can’t say enough amazing things about the Great Wolf Lodge, but just know that the water is always the perfect temperature, the lines have never been ‘too long’, and there is SO MUCH for kids of every age to do! I recommend this trip at least once to every family! ❤️
We took advantage of this deal last October and had the best time. We went to the Kansas City location and I was surprised how at home we felt while there. We packed a cooler and didn’t spend much extra during our stay. My kids are 10, 9, and 6. There was so much to do with the free activities that we didn’t get to everything and never had to leave the resort. Also, I felt like they were safe at the waterpark even though my kids either can’t swim yet or aren’t strong swimmers. The lifeguards stay extremely focused and the kids could stand up in most of the pools. I’m looking forward to us going back and am thankful they run such great deals with Groupon.
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to comment on your experience, Nicole! 🤗 Love hearing how comfortable and easy this getaway felt for your family, especially with everything right there on site. So awesome that you’re already looking forward to going back, and even better when you can snag it for a great price through Groupon. 🙌 The Kansas City location is great! I’ve gifted Groupons for family a few times to that one! 💞
You can’t use both the Groupon and military discount, can you?
Good question, Stephanie. Groupon does not have a military discount, which is where you’d be purchasing the deal from, rather than directly through Great Wolf Lodge. ❤️
You can try calling Great Wolf Lodge directly as they matched the groupon price for my sister. Also, they now charge $19 per night for parking (KC location) when you arrive fyi.
Thanks for the heads up on the parking for that location. Good to know how you grabbed a matching price! ❤️
The gurnee/Chicago location charges the same $19 fee for parking and they don’t say that until you check in
