Our Hip team & readers think Style Edit root touch-up products are all incredibly easy to use, and we love that they let us skip a few trips to the salon, which saves us a TON!
I’ve tried both the Style Edit Root Touch-Up Spray and Powder. I honestly love them both. They are literally lifesavers! I’m usually a messy bun kinda gal, and I never seem to notice how badly my roots need attention until I’m actually forced to get ready to go somewhere! Style Edit always saves the day since I can apply them SO quickly and SO easily while still managing to make it out the door on time! – Hip Sidekick, Nicole
I love the Style Edit products. I’ve tried other types of root touch-up products on the market, and I can say these are a step above the rest. I love the Style Edit root concealer to cover my stubborn grays. I am a busy, working mom who doesn’t get to the salon more than once a year – these root concealers are a lifesaver for me! I will be buying again and again. – Hip Sidekick, Melinda
My greys love to hide and play peek-a-boo at the worst times. I don’t get them all across my roots; rather, random silver strands will appear throughout my hairline and at the top of my head. While the root sprays are great for fast touch-ups or large areas, this stick is PERFECT for covering up my randomly placed greys. It also works great for filling in my hairline when I pull my hair back to give the appearance of a fuller hairline. Now my postpartum hair loss is my secret! – Hip reader, Monica

Let those silvers shine bright! Liberate yourself ladies. You will be gorgeous. Imagine uncovering a beautiful gemstone & then throwing dirt back over it π€¦π»ββοΈπ€β¨
Canβt wait to try. Bye bye grays!
Eventually you have to dye your hair once the grays are too long, what do you use?
Hi there! You could use a boxed color or schedule an appointment for a stylist at a salon for a hair color. π₯°
Right, I just haven’t found a box dye that is good at covering grays. Thanks anyway!
Oh! Sorry for the confusion there. β€οΈ One of our Hip sidekicks, Kelli, shared this – I used to use the box stuff, but now I go to Sally and get a bottle of developer and a tube of color (here’s the link!). The color is a brand that hairdressers use, and I can get two uses out of it. It’s cheaper, does a better job for my greys, and is better for my hair. You just need a scale to measure the amounts and you’re good to go!
Our Hip Sidekicks Misty and Nicole recommend Madison Reed products, found here!
Here’s what Misty shared about it – I used Madison Reed for several years. I absolutely loved their hair color, the quality, how long it lasts, the coverage and it does seem to be more like salon quality hair color than brands you can buy at the store. My fav part was that it is ammonia free, paraben, phthalates, gluten free, etc… And does not smell bad or leave a chemical/stripped feeling in your hair like most hair color does. I think it’s about $28 with shipping now for 1 box. (updated, just looked it’s $25+7 shipping now, so $32+tax) They are set up on a subscription model. I stopped using them last year just to save some $ and have been using Loreal Preference for about 5-6 mos but I am seriously considering going back to Madison Reed once I use up the last box of Loreal I have because I feel like Madison Reed’s hair color is a healthier, higher quality option and better for my hair and lasts longer. Side note, Madison Reed’s shampoo and conditioner is also really good! Also, I did try eSalon a couple of times too – which is similar to Madison Reed but I did not like their hair color at all. They have an ammonia free option you can request but it did not compare to Madison Reed’s in my opinion.
And Nicole’s input on this brand too – I second Madison Reed. It’s what I’ve been using for years. One of my good friends is a hairdresser and whenever I dye my hair she tells me it looks great and then makes a face when I tell her it’s a box dye. LOL But if you’re gonna do you’re own, it’s definitely the way to go! I usually stock up twice a year when Ulta has them half-price AND it just so happens that they will be on sale in a couple of days on March 11th so you can get them for $15 instead of $30!
Hoping these suggestions are helpful for you beyond using the Style Edit products!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, it’s really helpful!
