This Pumpkin Decorating Idea is So Clever – Use the Stem as the Nose!
Make a pumpkin nose out of a stem for frighteningly funny Halloween decor!
We love decorating for fall!
Is pumpkin decorating & carving a part of your fall festivities? This year, try this clever idea, use the stem for a nose! 🎃 It’ll be a frugal & fun way to spruce up your porch for fall! Read on to find out how I easily did mine!
This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’re actually not cutting off the stem from your pumpkin like the traditional way of carving pumpkins. Rather, turn it on its side and plan out the rest of the face around the stem.
Easy peasy, right?!
There are so many creative designs you can play around with when decorating your pumpkin. We even listed below a few ideas to give you some inspiration, but, no matter which you choose, your clever pumpkin nose will be the star of your spooky display.
Here are some ideas for creating a pumpkin nose using the stem:
- Use popsicle sticks or toothpicks for teeth.
- Place decorative pebbles for the eyes.
- Paint the outside to give it a different color.
- Use construction paper for the facial features.
- Use an old Halloween wig or silly headband for hair.
Pumpkin Decorating with Stem Nose
PrintSupplies Needed
- Real pumpkin
- Carving tools (you can likely use things you already have on hand)
Directions
1
Carve a circle on the opposite side (i.e. the bottom part) of the pumpkin. Then scrape out the insides.
2
Then place a corn-on-the-cob holder on the outside of the part you just carved out. This will act as the “handle”.
This is especially important if you plan to open and shut it often to insert a candle or tea light.
3
Grab a melon baller (for easy eye sockets), a vegetable peeler (great for hard-to-reach places), or any carving tool you have on hand to make your pumpkin’s face and different features.
4
Decorate your pumpkin with accessories, place it on your porch, and enjoy!
Or don’t carve it at all!
Take note that pumpkin carving isn’t my strength (LOL!), which is why these overly simple designs work best for me! 😉 Here’s my no-carve pumpkin example – pumpkin stem nose decorating is literally for anyone. So if carving is too involved or not something you wish to do, you can have just as cute of an outcome!
Consider using a white paint pen, black craft foam, and a witch headband to embellish. You could also even use a witch hat; it’s totally up to you and SO much fun!
If you do decide to carve your pumpkin, make this pumpkin slime with the “guts”!
What a great idea! Love the syem as a nose.
Thanks Lori! We thought it was cute too!
I always cut a hole in the bottom of my pumpkin, put tea light candle on our steps, place the pumpkin down right over the candle.
My parents always did that and it made a nice warm pumpkin smell.
