Girl making diy pumpkin slime for Halloween

My daughter grew up loving to make slime, and we had so much fun experimenting with this creative project when we first discovered it a few years ago. This is one of the more unique slime recipes we’ve attempted together, but we love the way it turned out!

ingredients needed to make pumpkin slime

Making pumpkin guts slime is such a fun and easy activity!

Yep, slime can be a little messy, but it’s FUN and fairly easy to clean up. There are probably a few ways to make this slime, but we opted to use a contact solution as our activator.

Make sure that the contact solution you choose for this DIY contains boric acid and sodium borate. As an alternative, you could try using 1/2 cup of liquid starch like Stay-Flo instead of contact solution and baking soda.

Directions

1

In a mixing bowl, combine glue and water.

2

Mix in pumpkin seeds and guts.

3

Mix in baking soda.

4

Mix in the contact solution as an activator. You’ll notice a slime will form right away and become firm. Keep stirring and manipulating the slime. Add additional contact solution if it’s still too sticky. Eventually, you’ll get a jiggly and fun slime to play with!

DIY Pumpkin Guts Slime – the slime being pulled apart

Pumpkin guts slime is such wiggly, jiggly fun!

The pumpkin seeds give this slime more of a cool sensory feel than standard slime, and the idea of making slime with pumpkin guts gives this DIY just enough of a “gross” factor to make it seasonably spooky for the kids!

We played with ours for a long time and really enjoyed the jiggly texture. It was quite an experience! 😃

Since this slime does contain fresh pumpkin, it should be kept in a covered container and stored in the fridge, where you can expect it to last for a few days.

Despite being made with real pumpkin, this slime is NOT edible! Keep this in mind, especially if you’re making it with young children.

This looks fun but not in our house as I am allergic to pumpkin guts. I wonder if I can make it with canned pumpkin?

    • Jen Perren

But you are not allergic to the flesh? I have never heard of that before. You could probably just use the seeds. It’s a texture and appearance thing for this. So just seeds, then you can add large orange glitter or yarn to make up for the stringiness of the guts. I would also add pumpkin pie spice. Just how I would adapt it.

  3. Trineke

Please be careful with this. Skin irritations and pumpkin touch allergies are very common.

    • Trinity

Think you for letting people now

    • Jen Perren

Wow! I had never heard of this before now. Thank you both of the information!

If you don’t roast and eat the seeds every year that is just blasphemy lol

Please be mindful that a lot of people have allergies to pumpkin. It’s one of the most common causes of contct dermatitis. It makes me and all of my kids miserable. I have to wear gloves that go up past my elbows to clean out pumpkin.

Oh good info. Thanks for sharing!

    • Candise Rowan

Use an electric mixer with your gloves on. It’s much easier and less contact
