I bought the hot sauce advent calendar you mentioned last year and it was a big hit with my son.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, SO glad to hear that, Lindak! Thanks for sharing with us!

    • Michelle B

We bought it fur our best friends and they loved it!

    • Patti

I bought the hot sauce advent calendar for my 20 something son last year too. I believe it was $80 on Amazon for 12 small ‘ish bottles. He enjoyed it and had hot sauce for months.

    • Sara (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! I’m so thrilled you all loved it! Hot sauce is a food group for me so I totally enjoyed tell you all about it last year! LOL!

  2. Amber (Hip Sidekick)

    Thanks for the heads up!

  3. Karen

We got the science countdown calendar last year. It was a huge hit! I think it was under $20….

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh good! GREAT deal and awesome that it was such a hit! Thanks a bunch for the feedback!

  4. Princess'Mom

Another use for advent calendars I want to share: Potty training! We were having a hard time with it and then I spotted a Barbie advent calendar at Aldi and got an idea: We told her that every time she used the potty, she could pick a door to open and get a prize. The first time, we gave her the Barbie. She LOVED opening the doors and finding a new piece of clothing or accessory for her doll so she started looking forward to using the potty. Once the doors were all opened/emptied, I refilled them with little trinkets like bead bracelets and pretty barrettes for her to wear. It did the trick! She was a little young for Barbie then but she’s still got all of it now and we were honestly at a loss for how to make it work before trying this idea. You could put together your own but I found the advent calendar was super easy to get started with and then easy to just refill the empty slots.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

YES! I love that idea! I actually did an advent calendar to help with potty training for my son and it worked really well for him too. Thanks a bunch for the suggestion!

    • Couponanimal

Genius idea!! I’m going to try that!

    • Amber

Thank you for this tip!! We are about to start potty training our son so that is perfect! Better than cavities from the dum dump! 🤣

  5. becca

Thank you for sharing. We buy our son an advent calendar each year for his September birthday and he gets so excited waiting for December. This year I found a fidget advent calendar on Amazon -he is so into fidgets so he can’t wait for December 1st. There are so many different calendars available I love that you highlighted a variety here.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Becca! What a fun tradition! Happy Birthday to your son!

  6. Amber (Hip Sidekick)

It is back down in price now if you wanted to check again!

  7. SamShops

Last year I made advent calendars for my husband and kids. I bought the punch boxes for $10 from Target (looks like they are on sale for $8 right now! https://www.target.com/p/surprise-punch-box-12-spritz-8482/-/A-79847339#lnk=sametab) and I used tissue paper to re-cover the holes. I plan on re-using the boxes again this year. I love shopping for little treasures to put in each spot being able to get specific things that I know they will enjoy.

  8. **Lisa**

Walmart has Lego Friends and Lego City advent calendars on sale for $28.

    • Claudette (Hip Sidekick)

Great find Lisa! Thanks for sharing.💕

  9. Kathryn

If you are planning to seperate the Bonne Maman consider purchasing the 12 Days of Christmas one ($14.98 at Sam’s, already in stock at my store) instead of the Advent one. Makes jars $1.25 each vs $1.67.

Or buy both like I did last year!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for mentioning that, Kathryn! We have a post on that calendar available at Costco and Sam’s Club here, if you wanted to check it out! 🥰
