Love looking at Christmas lights as a family tradition?
With Christmas right around the corner, this frugal tradition is something fun to do from the comforts of your car! Driving around and admiring beautiful holiday light displays brings so much holiday magic for kids and adults alike, and it’s something I look forward to each year – it’s even included on my family’s Christmas bucket list.
I’m sharing a fun and free printable to make Christmas lights even more exciting by turning it into a scavenger hunt adventure!
This year, bundle up the kids in their pajamas and go hunting for Christmas lights in your area by car. Before heading out, print out our Christmas light scavenger hunt FREE printable and see who can cross off all the items on their checklist first!
Don’t forget to bring along our favorite hot chocolate for the road!
Tips for using our fun Christmas light scavenger hunt free printable:
- I recommend printing these checklists out on white cardstock paper so they won’t rip as easily when you’re checking off your festive finds on the go.
- If you have a laminator, this would be a great opportunity to use it and mark off the list using dry erase markers. This way the cards will be less likely to get bent or spilled on, and you’ll be able to re-use them again next year!
- Consider getting a fun prize for the winner of the scavenger hunt like holiday treats or a special toy or book.
Here’s a frugal and easy-to-compile gift idea!
Consider gathering a few hot cocoa supplies and putting together a thoughtful gift basket for friends, family members, or neighbors. Make sure to include our free printable Christmas light scavenger hunt card to complete the basket so they can have a fun family night of looking at lights, too!
There’s something pretty special about seeing your kids and loved ones experience pure joy at seeing Christmas lights.
Here’s a pic of my teammate Chelsea’s cute kiddos at a recent display! We love Christmas lights here at Hip2Save and wanted to share this free printable with the hopes your family can get out safely and enjoy some holiday magic, too. Enjoy!
What fun! Thank you
Thanks Lori! Enjoy!
Thank you. So cute! Love the laminate idea.
Sure! Enjoy!
If you don’t have a laminator you can also use sheet protectors and a dry erase marker. Thanks for posting this! I love the gift basket idea 😁
Oh yay! That’s brilliant too! Thanks
Thank you for this cute scavenger hunt. Just a tip from a retired school teacher-you can use permanent markers if lamented and this will prevent accidentally erasing the checkmarks. When u are finished use isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel to remove the permanent marker. 😉 I plan to use this scavenger hunt with my grandchildren.
Oh smart! Thanks for sharing and enjoy!
Y’all are awesome!! Thank you!!
Thanks Amanda! We appreciate you!
Yes! Thanks for this! My youngest daughter has noted that I’ve been a little boring with our family activity advent calendar this year, so this is something new to us to try that will also get us out of the house!
Oh yay!! I’m going this weekend and can’t wait. Enjoy!
Fun idea! Definitely going to do this! Thanks!
Sure and thanks for stopping by Mary!
We took our girls light looking this past weekend, it was a lovely 82 degrees outside, so we stopped by DQ and got frozen hot chocolate and the hot chocolate blizzards. I will definitely be adding the scavenger hunt next year!
Oh fun!! That sounds great!
How fun! Thank you for sharing!!
Enjoy Katie! Have fun.
Love it!!!!
Thanks Sara! Enjoy!
What a cute and clever idea! Thank you ❤️
Thanks Enjoy!
Oh what fun! Thx
Sure! We hope you enjoy!
My street is only 25 houses, but I can check off everything but Snoopy just by looking out of my picture window!
LOL WOW what a fun neighborhood!
We did this last year and had a blast! Thanks for posting!
Oh yay I’m so glad!
This is actually a great idea when you have teenagers that now only begrudgingly do all the family traditions we’ve done every year. I’ll bribe them with a scavenger hunt and a prize of Starbucks at the end so they won’t want to go home until they find them all!
Yes! Good thinking! Ha
Thank you! I did this scavenger hunt with my teen daughter and her friend tonight and we each loved it. Merry Christmas❤️
Love this!! Thank you!!
You’re welcome, Emma! Glad you enjoyed it! 💞
