For people who love to read Kindle books, my state has an online library you can use any library card from the state to check out kindle books for free. I recommend this to anyone who loves to read! They also give you the option to sign up for a state library card if you don’t already have a local one. I was able to do it all online and have it shipped to my house, at least that’s how it works in Ohio.
If anyone wants this info, just go to your local library’s website to see if they offer Kindle downloads. There are also Overdrive and Libby apps.
Amy, Can you give me more information. I’m signed up with my local library but more libraries have possibly more books/audiobooks Denise
Yes, love that OH does this!
Thanks I’m always looking for a new book to read and when you post this list I always seem to find at least one thy catches my eye
That’s great to hear, Monique! You’re very welcome! Enjoy!

I’m so in love with Kindle Unlimited! For all the chores I have to deal with, I can listen to my books and get things done quickly! And there’s so many titles that are free for unlimited! So worth it!
The Housemaid was one of my fav books so far this year! I now want to read everything by this author!
Me too! It had a great ending!
Thank you for the monthly reminder.
I also wanted to provide some information about possibly getting multiple library cards. Either free from your own towns and state or paid ones from other states. There are libraries that allow non resident paid membership done completely online.
I have a card from my town, the town nearby that doesn’t require residency, and one from my state library, which I got online. Each one gets me access to Cloud Library. Total three.
Next, I got one from Fairfax County Public Library VA, for a non resident fee of $27. This got me access to Libby. Also Kanopy with this membership. My second paid non resident card is Charlotte Mecklenburg Library NC, for $45. I have access to Hoopla & Libby. Again Kanopy and also Freegal for music. Plus the list of services here is phenomenal; from free classes, newspapers , and more. Both sign ups were done online; I don’t live in either of these states. Total two.
For my libraries with a paid membership, I specifically chose one with Libby and one with Hoopla. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has so many extra services; the list is incredibly long. The bonus Libby access will be great too.
So my total is 5 library cards with big or small extras to go with them. So that’s $72 or $6 a month for the two paid ones. Right now I have Kindle Unlimited at a special rate of $5 a month until September, then it’s $9.99. With these cards I may not need the KU.
You can search for other libraries that offer non resident cards for a fee. Search for an e card or virtual card. The price ranges I saw, for non resident at various libraries, were $27-$125.
I agree with other posts about Library Extension. It is a game changer. When I go on Amazon I see how many books my libraries have total and number left available. Brilliant extension!
Thanks so much for this information!
Broward County (Florida) library is free for non-residents. I rent lots of ebooks and audiobooks from them. Sometimes they limit to 14 days instead of 21 like my local libraries. They have a lot of availability.
Thank you for the recommendations as I have some spare time to catch up on my books in my library that I’ve brought and borrow more from Libby. Also always check to see if there are sales on books that have a long library loan waiting list – I jump off once I catch a sale.
