One of our Hip readers, Amanda, was awesome enough to share her personal Mint Mobile experience with us!

Here’s what she said about switching to Mint and how it cut her bill by 80%!

I’ve been using Mint Mobile for several months now and love it! No interruptions and the service is better than well-known national providers (in the Houston area, for reference). Our bill went from $180 a month to $180 every 3 months making for a huge savings.

We just paid our bill for the next 3 months, and right before our first 3 were up, Mint actually left us a voicemail (voiced by Ryan Reynolds 🤣🤣) saying we could get by with the 10GB plan instead of the Unlimited because we hadn’t used much data. So now, we’re saving about $20 more each month in addition to how much our bill was already cut–literally about $100 now every 3 months!

We had been using a different, reasonably-priced provider, but we really felt like we could get by with something cheaper. We kept hearing good things about Mint & brought our same phones over from our other provider since they were both paid off and unlocked.

My iPhone seemed to have taken better to the switch than my husband’s Android did at first. But now, his phone has caught up with the speed and works just as well as it did on our previous network!

At first, my favorite aspect was saving money in general. However, after that voice message came in prior to our renewal date, I knew that Mint is a company really trying to help people save some money and not just fill their own pockets.

Their service and speed match our last provider, but the fact that they try to save you as much as possible made it a little more personal for me.

So you might be asking, what is Mint Mobile?

Mint Mobile is a prepaid wireless service meaning you pay for your bill at the beginning of your service instead of at the end of each month. You save BIG money with the lowest monthly talk, text, and data plans of any nationwide carrier.

Mint lets you buy prepaid phone service in bulk for maximum savings—you choose the amount of 5G/4G LTE data (4GB, 10GB, 15GB, or Unlimited) you need each month, and how many months you want to purchase (3, 6 or 12 months). Because Mint is digital only (there are no physical stores!), they are able to keep costs down and pass the savings on to you!

And you can keep your phone and your phone number with Mint instead of having to buy or lease a new one! Just make sure it’s GSM compatible and it should work great when you drop in a Mint Mobile SIM card.

Mint Mobile Plans are as low as $15 per month, and they recently introduced their Unlimited Data Plan, which offers unlimited data, talk, and text, all on a 5G or 4G network – whichever is available near you for just $30 per month – no coupon code needed!

Note that if you’re on the unlimited plan and use over 35GB of data per month, you may experience slower streaming speeds.

Check out these great reviews!

My parents needed a plan that would allow them to call and text their grandkids. They had flip phones with pre-paid minutes, but the calling was expensive and texting was difficult. They did not want to sign a contract. This was perfect for them. We gave them one of our older iPhones and sent them the MINT SIM card. I think my mom did have a little trouble setting it up (we are in another state), but after that she has fallen in love. She has the least expensive plan and has never had trouble running out of data. She texts, calls, FaceTimes, checks her email, etc. She has been able to keep more closely in touch with her grandkids.

My husband, daughter, and I all have individual Mint plans. We have had no issues whatsoever in the two-plus years of service and pay significantly less than with our prior plan.

All good things to say about this. Works great and is so cheap! Would be great for teens who need to budget data and it just cuts off if they run out.

I have the 8GB plan and have zero issues. My husband has the unlimited and has never had any issues. We cut the cord with T-Mobile and we get the same service but for so much more less. It is well worth it and saves a ton of money.

I’d be interested to see what anyone has to say about service?

    • berrylandnow

Have had it for 6 months. No issues.

  2. J

We switched to mint after my mint service was much better than a well known national service. Don’t regret it one bit. Have had mint for years now!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

SWEET! Thanks for sharing your experience, J!

  3. Amanda

I’ve been using it for about a week now and I love it! Not interruptions and honestly I have to agree with the user above who said it seems better than a well known carrier she had.. same here! Our bill went from $180 a month to $180 every 3 months huge savings

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks a bunch for sharing with us! Super glad to hear what great savings you’ve been able to score!

    • Carrie

How many people are in your plan?

  4. Amanda

Switched to mint a month ago in Houston area great reception, saving us almost $400 every 3 months

  5. caryn-0

My husband and I have used for almost 2 years now. Love it. We have had no issues.

  6. MB

Mint wireless service is TMobile but cheaper. If TMobile is good is your area, you should see no difference then.

  7. Stephanie Murphy

Check your area for coverage with Mint (tMobile). I tried it in the past, and I had issues with service, specifically my phone would get no service in some places. It’s not a good deal if it doesn’t work for you!

  8. dealguy

Service is good. Been using it for past 1 year.

The tax around $10 kills the deal. Best buy will have similar deal around Thanksgiving for the same price. (Bought it last year from best buy without premium tax). Nothing urgent.

  9. Kiki

Can I send anyone a referral to get a bonus for myself and get 3 months free and $15 bonus for you.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Kiki! Here are the details they list on referrals – “Bring someone over to Mint and you can earn some serious credit. Whether it’s a friend, relative (close, distant, one you didn’t know you had), or even a complete stranger, we’ll hook you up with tons of free renewal credit for the effort. The person you refer also gets $15 to put towards a renewal, so it’s a thank you and a welcome gift all in one.”

      Hope this helps!

We are in our second year of Mint Mobile. If you pay for the year up front, there are even more savings. I initially tried the 3 month plan to make sure it worked for us and we never had any problems with it. Halfway through the year, Mint increased the GB on all its plans, giving customers more GB for the same money. Fantastic company! For one year, 4GB a month, for one line we pay only $200 with taxes. Some plans cost that for one month! Here’s a referral link for anyone interested in trying it out…
    Thanks and happy saving!

Any T-Mobile alternatives out there? We have tello and are having issues after they merged with T-Mobile. The mobile data is very spotty.

    • klw

We’re looking at (Verizon) T-Mobile isn’t a great option in our area (WI) but have heard great things about visible. I had previously used Straight Talk and had no issues with them but with adding more lines, we’re looking at other options. Good Luck!

      • emma

Hi, feel free to check out this page:, it has all the info you need to know about joining Visible. When you use my friend code, 3hgsgB, you’ll get your first month of service for only $5! Thanks and happy saving!!

    • emma

      Hi Sarah,
I have Visible and been very happy since we switched at the beginning of this year. Monthly $40 but paying just $25 with party pay option which is really easy to do.

I have Cricket and I love it. I pay $30 a month (that includes calls to Europe which it $5) for unlimited calls, text, and internet. I know service slows down after a certain amount but I have never noticed it so not an issue with me. Service is great and I travel a lot and haven’t had a problem with service. I love it. Have been with them for almost 3 years

  13. Errrr

Agree with the comment about checking coverage. Coverage map is here:

I live in an area where there is plenty of coverage with Mint, but I travel frequently to areas where there would be no coverage with Mint (but I would have still coverage with my current carrier). A phone is good only if it works. This is a terrific deal for some, but not for others.

  14. amanda-60

All the IPhones are out of stock!

  15. animity

Using it for almost three years. No problems. Love the price. Hope it stays low! This is how much we should be paying for cell coverage not the high prices from the large companies.

  16. Gene

I have Visible and pay $25 a month unlimited everything….including data. Verizon owns it, so you use their towers. No issues yet…get friends to join’ll save even more. They even gave me a $50 gift card after 5 months for being a good customer!!!

  17. teresalynn

I have had mint for about a year now. I was paying $85 a month. I pay $30 now. Excellent service. Better than AT&T.

  18. Sara

Video is limited to 480p on the unlimited plan.

There is zero coverage in the entire state of Alaska, but there is coverage in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

  19. Andrea

I would definitely recommend Visible. Such a deal for unlimited everything for $25 a month. I had coverage in the greater Seattle area and now in the Boise area. No issues. I can’t imagine going back to a big name service and paying a few hundred a month for the same thing.
